The Finale - Epilogue Part One

Disclaimer: The art isn't mine. I just thought it looked like JJ.

I frantically set up the last of the decorations in the hall of the Crystal Palace. Today was my daughter's twenty-first birthday- everything needed to be perfect.

"Is everything ready?" Spence's arms wrapped around my waist.

"I'm pretty sure," I turned to face him. His hands rested gently on my cheeks as he planted a sweet kiss on my lips.

"C'mon- let's go hide." My husband tugged me towards the other side of the foyer and behind a sparkling counter.

A minute ticked by before the massive doors to the palace opened. Jason and his sister emerged from behind the doors.

"SURPRISE!" My family shouted, which startled my daughter a little.

"Oh my gosh! Guys!" JJ's hands flew to her mouth.

"Happy Birthday, Cookie." I swept my daughter into a hug.

"Thank you, Mom. And you too, Dad!" She strode over to her father and engulfed him in her arms. JJ was a little shorter than him, so her hands were thrown over her father's shoulders.

"C'mon, let's celebrate!" Jason clapped his hands together excitedly.

JJ dragged her brother over to the video games station where Daniel and Henry were waiting for them.

Amelia must've heard the commotion because suddenly I was being dragged out of the front and into the head-space.

'~-Amelia-~'

"What'd I miss?" I chirped as I fronted.

"Over there," My husband whispered to me, pointing to the other end of the room. JJ, Jason, Daniel, and Henry were playing Mario Kart 19 together.

"I can't believe we made that," I mumbled, leaning into his touch.

"I can't believe that she's going to rule the Magic Web one day."

I looked at Spencer. "Well, she has a doctorate in Psychology and multiple PhDs- so I think that she's very fit to lead our kingdom one day."

"I didn't mean it in that way- I meant that she's grown up so fast."

We smiled at that.

"Mom would've loved to see her."

Spencer nodded. "Irene would be ecstatic if she had the chance to meet her granddaughter."

An hour of playtime passed before it was time to eat the cake.

Matt brought it out on a platter. It was massive. The cake had three tiers and was decorated with royal pieces all around it.

Dusk summoned a flame in her hand and swiftly lit the candles.

Of course, we began to sing as we set the cake in front of JJ's wide eyes.

JJ blew out her candles after a moment and snatched the cake-cutter from Zachary's hands.

"What'd you wish for?" Tycer questioned, leaning around the side of the cake.

"That's a secret." She winked at him playfully before digging into the piece she had cut for herself.

"Hey, guys," Nova suddenly appeared from behind us, out of breath. "I hate to be a party crasher- but we have a problem."

"What's up?" I asked, turning towards them. They looked frantic.

"The Starry Field's been broken into."

None of us needed further explanation as we teleported to the planet. (Since Henry was human, we left him behind.)

It was pure chaos.

The sounds of swords clashing rang out in all different directions. The scent of blood stung the air as trained warriors were put against one another.

We nodded to each other as a way of saying "good luck".

Most of my family split off to help out with those who were struggling in the fight.

JJ, Jason, Spencer, and I were helping out by the tree line when four figures appeared in front of us.

"Good to see you," Andrew snarled before lunging at me.

The fight began.

In the corner of my eye, I saw Jason fighting Vo, Quantico fighting JJ, and Ezekiel fighting Spencer.

Andrew swung at me first and I dodged effortlessly.

Anger began to build in my soul. The emotion was most likely leaking from one of my alters, but it helped to fuel my strength in the fight.

I clashed my sword with his, a blaze roaring in my eyes.

We were both experts- born and shaped by fighting.

Each swing was muscle memory.

Each dodge and roll effortless.

Each breath baited as we willed the other to die.

That's when I heard a yell that was quickly silenced.

I lost all sense of focus on the fight right in front of me as I searched the clearing for the sound.

Vo Newman was dead, and my son was clutching his side while panting.

I almost cursed as Andrew's sword grazed my side.

I focused my full attention on him.

I could win this.

With newfound strength, I battled once more with my opponent. He didn't seem intimidated by this.

I almost didn't hear the sound of a sword stabbing through flesh multiple times.

To my relief, Ezekiel was dead, but Spencer didn't have much time to recover before fending off the enemies who had ambushed him.

Andrew and I were growing tired.

One wrong move.

One small slip-up.

And one of us would be dead.

I was knocked to the ground.

The world around me spun for a second before I turned towards my opponent again.

I pulled out my sword just in time to block a finishing blow from him.

Rage.

It was all I felt now.

This man had taken so much from me.

He had kidnapped me.

Used me.

Allowed his friend to murder my son.

Which, in turn, caused the suicide of my daughter.

He had taken my children all those years ago.

Since then, we hadn't seen a single glimpse of each other.

But now that Andrew stood so close to me, rage exploded from every pore in my body.

I knocked his sword out of his hand.

I jumped out of my position.

I shoved him to the ground.

And stabbed him through the heart.

I watched as Andrew's bright, emerald eyes dulled until life no longer flowed through them.

He was dead.

I heard a cry from someone in the clearing.

JJ was on the ground.

I swiftly pushed Quantico back with my magic and dipped down to check on my daughter.

"I'm fine. Just exhausted." She was breathing heavily but seemed mostly unharmed.

I turned towards the final opponent.

Quantico's eyes fixated on me as she swept her sword in my direction.

Our swords clashed.

I could tell that, endurance-wise, neither of us were doing well. We were both panting from our earlier fights.

JJ disappeared- most likely to find either her father or her brother.

I could tell after a few minutes that I was starting to out-match Quantico.

I could do this.

Suddenly, Quantico flew into the air, high above me.

Well, damn. She might as well just surrender- the Divine family was known for their advanced flight abilities.

I expanded my wings and flew after her. I didn't think that she expected this, because she immediately stopped flying and turned towards me without a weapon in her hand.

We were two-hundred feet above the ground.

With the full force of her magic, Quantico slammed me down.

I flew into the ground at record-speeds.

Luckily, though, Magi were known to survive falls of up to two-thousand feet. I would probably leave the fight bruised, and with a sore neck.

Ow, that really hurt my neck.

But, after a moment, the pain subsided. I would be fine.

Quantico landed in front of me as I stood up, no longer exhausted.

"I'm not done with you yet," I rasped, taking a fighting stance.

However, instead of acknowledging my existence, she stared at the floor beneath me and walked away.

"You can't just walk away!" I shouted, but there was no indication that she heard me.

I was annoyed, but nonetheless, I was happy that I'd won.

The communication line between my siblings and I was awfully quiet.

However, as I tried to contact my husband, I turned around.

I shrieked at the sight before me.

My body was on the ground, and my faded eyes blankly stared at the starless sky.

'~-Spencer-~'

We were winning.

I could tell this because our enemies were starting to retreat.

I smiled, remembering the many battles that Amelia and I had fought side-by-side in.

Amelia.

Where was she?

She should've fought off Andrew and Quantico by now.

I shook off the feeling of worry. Amelia was amazingly good at fighting. I didn't need to worry about her.

My blood ran cold when I spotted Quantico in the distance- very much alive.

A slew of curses spilled from my lips as I ran back to the clearing where my family had fought the four.

A body laid in the grass, unmoving.

My heart shattered into a million pieces when I gazed into my wife's lifeless eyes.

Sobs escaped my mouth as I brought my slender hands to her cheek.

She was still warm.

I didn't bother to check Amelia's pulse- she wasn't breathing and her eyes were wide open.

I sat up, ready to start chest compressions.

That's when I noticed the awkward angle her neck was at.

She had fallen from a distance at a high velocity and landed on her neck- snapping it like a twig.

There was no saving her.

I sat there for a few long moments.

I wasn't sure what to do.

I couldn't go on knowing that the love of my life was gone.

But, somehow, courage filled my veins. I was a coward- I had been for a very long time.

I like to think that it was Amelia in that moment.

I moved her body away from the fight.

But, as I moved to help finish the massive battle, a sharp pain split through my chest.

I opted to ignore it, but suddenly I was on the ground with blood pooling underneath me.

"Dad?" A voice called out to me. JJ.

"Oh god- DAD!" My breathing began to slow. What happened?

"Hey- stay with me, okay?" I looked up into her amber eyes.

"JJ," I whispered, lifting my right hand weakly. I placed my hand on her cheek. "I love you."

"Dad," She cried.

"Worst birthday present ever, huh?" I joked, laughing half-heartedly. I coughed blood.

"You're such a dork." JJ laughed, tears streaming down her face.

'~-JJ (Jessica)-~'

I wonder if he was waiting for me to heal him.

My father closed his eyes.

His hand, which had been on my cheek, fell limp to the floor.

He stopped breathing.

I cleaned up his wound so that he looked like he was sleeping.

However, I noticed something shining in the palm of his left hand.

Their wedding rings.

I slipped the deep blue one onto my right-ring finger- it didn't fit, but the magic that had formed it widened it so that it would.

The other was lavender, and it fell onto my left-ring finger. It shrunk to my size- fitting me perfectly.

I closed my mother's eyes and fixed her neck. A small part of me hoped that she would wake up.

She didn't.

I used my powers to form a barrier around their bodies.

Then, I searched for Quantico.

The fray was thinning out, so finding the Magi who had killed my mother wasn't going to be hard.

And I was right.

She was in the middle of the field, fighting with Daniel.

He wasn't cut out to fight her.

I stepped in before she could finish him off. Daniel silently thanked me before disappearing.

"Back for more?"

"You killed my mother," I growled.

"I'll take that as a yes." She summoned her weapon.

I began to fly.

She flew after me.

The wind hurled at my wings as I entered the cloud level.

Quantico smiled wickedly at me, no doubt wanting to try the same thing she did with my mother.

I got to her first.

The rings on my fingers started to glow impossibly bright as I charged up my magic.

A few heartbeats passed before the magic became unbearable, and I was knocked out by the explosion.

I woke up in a hospital bed.

The lights above me burned into my corneas as I opened my eyes.

Jason and Daniel were beside me.

"JJ...."

"Hey, Jason," I rasped, smiling at my brother.

The smile faded from his lips.

"The battle was rough, but we won."

"I know."

"We lost a lot," He was trying to break the news to me softly.

"I was there when he died," I told him plainly. "The last thing I said to him was 'you're a dork'."

Jason laughed, a tear slipping from his red eye.

"The funeral is today."

"How long have I been out for?"

"Two days."

I sighed.

"When is the coronation, then?"

"Tomorrow." Jason sighed heavily. "It's too soon."

"They can't go without a leader for too long," I mumbled.

"I know."

It didn't take me long to recover.

I had gotten my mother's dress tailored to fit me.

I made it to the funeral that evening.

The world around me felt duller now that my parents were gone. Like the leaves had lost their detail and the flowers no longer bloomed in the same bright colors.

I was an orphan.

Jason stood by my side as we watched their coffins lower into the ground. He held his husband's hand tightly.

Daniel looked at us with sympathy.

I didn't cry during the service.

The coronation was tomorrow. My kingdom needed me.

It was now time for three-thousand years of my rulership.

I just didn't know if I could do this without my parents by my side.

They were my everything.

But I was on my own now.

I could do this.

I had to.

I had to do this.

In that moment, I wondered if Crystal and Derek were proud of me.

Were they?

God, I hoped so.

Part two will be up soon. It's not over yet.
