Beautiful - Chapter Two

"A broken wing simply means, you have to find another way to fly. " -Kerry Katona

"Guys!" Penelope exclaimed, making us all jump out of our seats. "I recovered Amelia's old phone number, and most of her text messages, too!"

"Good job Garcia." Emily praised, leaning down over the laptop. Silence lingered in the air for a few moments before the two girls looked at each other in shock.

"Oh my god. This, this is...." Emily stuttered.

"There's multiple of them." Penelope finished.

"What do you mean?" David asked, and everyone gathered around the computer.

Hey, Babe. I know this case is hard, but I believe in you. Go catch some bad guys. -Sunbright & Angel

Thank you, guys. I love you both.

Also, remind Emily to pick up JJ today? She stayed after school for the debate team.

Yeah, I'll let her know.

:::::::::

"What could that mean?" Tara mumbled.

We all stood in peaceful silence, but it didn't last.

"HA-HA!" Penelope shouted. "I am the best!"

"What'd you find?" Matt asked.

"I found out where the prince and the princess go to high school! Oh- and it looks like their names are under- Jessica Savine and Jason Savine. Oh, and here are their picture day photos aaaaand... that's them!" The two kids' pictures popped up on the big screen.

"That fake last name will definitely help us find- hey, Spence, what's wrong?" Jennifer looked concerned, and all eyes were on me.

"What do you plan to do with this information." I tried to hide my anger, but my voice shook nonetheless.

Everyone looked at each other, probably wondering what the right thing to do was. Finally, David spoke up.

"We need to warn the family and get them somewhere safe." I sighed, not being able to help the smile that crept its way onto my lips.

"Rossi is right." Luke agreed. "We all know that this isn't right. Two kids and two parents."

"We may be at war, but that doesn't mean we go hunting innocents." Emily smiled. "That was never a part of the job description." The team nodded.

"That's good to hear." I looked out at all of them. "So, how do we get to them before our superiors do?"

--------------

May 17th, 2001

It had been three months and fourteen days since I met Amelia and became her apprentice. Many things happened in the span of those one hundred and three days.

For example, I somewhat learned how to fight with a sword. I also discovered that most Magi, including me, had wings of all different colors and sizes. Mine were slightly larger than average and were white with a slight blue tint. Also, I learned that the Divine family was the only family with pure-white wings, and they had the biggest wings out of all Magi.

So, Amelia had taught me to fly. It took me some getting used to, and many failed attempts, but I thought that I had a decent grasp on how to lift myself into the air and hover.

Only one challenge stood in my way. The Magi called it "Heaven's Gate", a cliff with an updraft for practicing flying. It was called that for two reasons. One: it was usually where your wings would be tested for the first time (I had refused to go because I was, very reasonably mind you, terrified). And two: If you didn't fly in time, well, you better say your prayers (at least that's what Amelia had told me before bursting into uncontrollable laughter at the look on my face).

I cast my gaze out into the skyline, and adrenaline started to pump through my veins.

"C'mon, Sugar, trust me. It's not that bad once you've jumped!" Amelia tugged on my arm, and I let out a strangled noise.

"That's at least a two thousand foot drop, and if I don't fly in time there's a very small likelihood th-" I was unceremoniously shoved off, and I let out a terrified squeal as I fell.

I dropped like a stone, and my breath caught in my throat as I tried to concentrate on materializing my wings.

I can't

I can't

I CAN'T

I whispered her name as the ground grew exponentially larger, and I closed my eyes to accept my fate when,

Her lean but muscular arms wrapped around my body, and I felt the beat of her powerful wings pushing through the air. Amelia lifted me back up, cradling me so that I was nose to nose with her.

"I hate you," I muttered, and her laugh resounded through the clearing as she set me back down on the edge of the cliff. I collapsed onto the grass, the breath knocked out of my lungs.

"Are you okay?" She sounded concerned, and her eyes held worry behind their chocolate pools.

"Yeah." I gasped, laying on my back and smiling. "Thanks."

Amelia reached out her hand, her fifteen-foot wings spreading out to add to her strength. I grasped her hand and pulled myself up. I locked eyes with her, feeling my heart speed up and my throat grow dry. I had recently developed an attraction towards her- feelings if you will.

"Alright, let's try something different then," Amelia suggested gently, and she let go of my hand, leaving me feeling cold and empty.

"Wings." She commanded softly, and after a few moments, my wings were fluttering lightly in the air.

"Here, let's just fly over the drop instead of falling down it." I nodded, she grabbed my hand, and we both took off into the air.
Higher and higher we flew, swooping and making circles around each other, flying over the drop with the courage of ten lions. Eventually, we descended, down and down until we floated about ten feet above the ground.

I don't know what came over me, but I tackled her to the ground. Amelia shrieked as we collided into the grass, my body hovering over hers with my wings extended and hers disappearing. We began to laugh together, but after a few moments, I realized how close our faces were to each other.

"Sorry," I mumbled, my cheeks dusted with embarrassment. But before I could blink....

She leaned up and pressed her lips to mine.

I completely froze, forgetting where I was as shock settled over my body. As she pulled away, I could see the hurt in her features.

"I'm sorry, that was... stupid. I'm so sorry, you don't have to like me back. I...." Amelia wormed her way out from under me, my wings vanished and we both stood up. She started to walk away.

"Wait, Amelia," I called, stopping her in her tracks.

Amelia turned to face me. "It's okay Spencer, I understand. You don't have to explain anything. I should have-"
In a single stride, I reached her and placed my lips upon hers. The kiss was soft, but our lips brushed together in perfect, passionate harmony. It had to end eventually, but both of us didn't want it to.

Finally, our eyes made contact. Trying to read each other's minds (even though we already could), we leaned in for a short, but sweet kiss. The grassy plains threatened to spin and fall around me as I held her in my arms, brushing my lanky fingers up against her soft skin.

"So, that's a yes to my next question then?" Amelia asked, a smile lighting up her delicate face.

I laughed. "I mean, if your next question was asking me to date you, then yes. Unless I'm reading to much into this and-"

"
Spencer. Yes, I was going to ask you to be my boyfriend. Stop it." She placed her index finger onto my nose. "I like you. A lot."

We both smiled. I leaned in, pressing my nose against hers.
"I would be honored to date you, m'lady."

"Ew, that makes me sound old." I burst into a fit of laughter.
"Aren't you over a thousand years old or something?"
"Touche." She responded, placing a kiss on my nose.

"Mm, you can be...." I thought about a nickname for a while, before settling on one.

"Baby Tiger?" Amelia laughed, shoving me away from her.

"Okay, then just...." I pondered for a moment.

"Beautiful."

You can't blame gravity for falling in love. -Albert Einstein

-(But I guess in this case you can ;D)-
