14) Promised Birthday

Y/N POV

As the clock ticks slowly, your beloved 22nd birthday creeps up around the corner, arriving in a few days. Your birthday will be on the 21st of the month, and you were ecstatic.

Although you weren't planning on hosting any parties or anything, every year, Hanni would always do something special for you.

From the year we met, she would constantly be an extra smol bean, planning your birthday with the biggest surprises.

You used to spend your birthday alone, not really caring about the special day. But after Hanni entered your life, it became a day filled with anticipation.  You were now always excited for your birthday, as for the past couple of years, they have all been fantastic.

Just last year, you returned from a long day of work to be greeted by a handmade cake that Hanni made from scratch.

-------FlashBack------

After a long day of work, you head home exhausted from the workload. Although today was an enjoyable day, with a lot of your friends and coworkers wishing you a happy birthday, you couldn't wait until the day finally ended.

Today, Hanni said we would be hanging out after your shift, and since it was your birthday, your boss allowed you to head home earlier.

You open the door and instantly notice that your house lights are on. That's odd... You always remember to turn off your lights.

As you remove your shoes and place them by the front, the sweet smell of freshly baked bread fills your nostrils.

Hmmm~ Hmmmm~

You then hear a beautiful humming voice coming from the kitchen. You knew immediately that your adorable little girlfriend was waiting for you to return home.

You quietly walk into the living room, and from your view, you can see that the kitchen, and you are utterly shocked by the mess scattered around. With broken egg shells, whipped cream everywhere, and flour in every place imaginable, there stood your girlfriend, Hanni, with a contagious smile.

You watched as she piped the cake with frosting, accidentally spilling blobs all over her freshly baked cake. With frosting on the tip of her nose and floor coating her hands, you couldn't help but smile...

It looked like Hanni was trying so hard to make you a cake, and it seemed like she was enjoying it.

Hanni: "Looks great!" She said as she looked at her creation. "I'm pretty sure I followed all of Minji's instructions..." she said while looking at a piece of paper, probably the recipe.

You watched as she grabbed her phone and what seemed to check the time.

Hanni: "8:14... Damn, Y/N should be coming home any minute... I got to hurry..." she muttered to herself, with her hand on her chin. You chuckled and chimed in.

Y/N: "Too late, I'm already home," you said as you watched Hanni jump slightly. You watched as her eyes whipped towards you.

She looked at you with a shocked expression, probably not expecting you to be home yet. Then Hanni instantly charged at you and began pushing you.

Hanni: "Babe!!! You can't see it yet!!!" she said as she covered your eyes and shoved you out of sight from the kitchen. You couldn't help but laugh at her silliness as she pushed you out of the way.

Y/N: "Okay, okay, Honey... I'll wait on the couch," you said as she stopped pushing you.

Hanni: "Okay! Don't look, or I'll poke your eyes out!" she said, giving you a death glare. You chuckle in response.

Y/N: "Wow... I'm so scared..." you replied with satire. You watch as she pouts slightly and then stomps back into the kitchen.

You waited a bit, scrolling through the TV channels until Hanni said she was done. You then walked back into the kitchen, and the cake with a frosting mess greeted you. The cake was oddly shaped, looking like a bunch of cake pops onto a cake.

The cake looked alright... when you came in and saw it earlier. You didn't know why she added all the cake pops to it.

You looked over at Hanni, and she had a bright smile on her face. With her pearly white teeth shining, she looked at you with pure happiness, clearly proud of her creation.

Man... You couldn't have it in your heart to tell her that it looked odd, to say the least.

She then places a couple of candles on the cake, and lights them up. With a bright smile shining on her face, she turns over to you and looks into your eyes.

Hanni: "Try it, Babeeeeee," she said as she cut a slice for you. "It's good, I promiseeee," she said happily. She grabs a good forkful of cake and then begins to feed you. "Say Awww," she said with a cute voice.

You opened your mouth and ate some of the cake. The cake was slightly too sweet... okay... Maybe very, very sweet... And with all the cake pop on top of the cake, it wasn't the best cake ever...

Although the cake didn't look the best or tasted terrific, but warm your heart. For her to spend so much time making a cake for you, it made your heart skip a beat.

Hanni: "How is it?" she asked with a curious look all over her face. You smiled at her and said.

Y/N: "It's great," you said with a happy look. "Thank you, Hanni..." you said genuinely. You then wiped the frosting off her nose, and ate it.

Hanni: "You're very welcome," she said with her chest held high with her face a little flushed. "Maybe I should make you a cake every year," she pondered.

Y/N: "I would like that," you replied back. You glanced at Hanni, and you could see that she had genuine happiness on her face; it reminded you of why you fell in love with her for a reason." I love you, Hanni..." you said, looking deep into her eyes.

Hanni: " I love you too..." she replied back, shining her signature smile.

--------Back To Present------

Due to Hanni's hectic schedule, you wanted to confirm if you were planning to spend your birthday together. So you decided to ask her after her long day of work.

Recently, Hanni has been too tired to continue our nighttime calls, and you were trying to be understanding. You tried to give her space as much as possible, wanting her not to be too pressured to balance our relationship.

You messaged her to call you when she got home, and late at night, she called you. After a while, it notified that she had read your message and then.

*Ring Ring*

As soon as your phone rang, your mood instantly raised, happy to finally be able to talk to your girlfriend after what felt like forever. You picked up the phone.

Y/N: "Hey Honey!" you said excitedly.

Hanni: "Hi... What's up, Y/N," she said, sounding tired over the phone. "I'm about to *yawn* head to sleep, babe..." she said while yawning. "What is it you want to talk about?"

Y/N: "Are you doing anything on the 21st?" you asked Hanni, hoping she would say no.

Hanni: "I shouldn't be..." she said tiredly.

Y/N: "Do you want to hang out on that day?" "Maybe we can go on a cute date? Or we can spend it at my place and make something to eat?" you asked her.

Hanni: "Yeah, sure..." she said, a little exhausted. "I shouldn't have anything that day," she replied. Her answer made you very happy, as it was confirmation that you'd hang out.

But you wanted to make sure...

Y/N: "Please promise me... That you won't cancel... " you asked her genuinely and honestly. You really hoped she wouldn't cancel this one. "Please..."

It was an important day, and you wanted to be able to celebrate it with the girl you love. Maybe you guys can even bake a cake together.

Hanni: "I promise, Y/N..." she said, her answer making you smile. You guys talked briefly before hanging up so Hanni could get her needed slumber.

You couldn't wait for your birthday. It was another excuse for us to spend time with each other, and you missed your smol bean.

You didn't know yet... But this would be the worst birthday you have ever experienced...

Sheeeshhhh... I feel that the breakup should happen in a couple of chapters as it is kind of hard writing angst. But yeah... I'm not sure if I'm really writing Hanni well, because I haven't really given her a personality besides flaking all the time. But yeah. Will try to fix some stuff in the next chapter, but I feel Like all of you will really like it. Have a nice day y'all and see you later.
