Chapter 9

I ran all the way to his house. Which was actually pretty exhausting for a small town where everyone was practically neighbours. My legs were long and lanky but not physically fit. luckily my addiction for wearing leggings payed off and i was able to move freely.

When I jogged up Decan's drive way, his parents cars weren't there. Though Brent's was. I felt relieved his parents would not see me in my sweaty, un athletic shape. Ya I didn't really think this quite through.

I knocked on the door, then bent over gasping for air. The door creaked open. "Hey Hope...um this isn't really...wait what are you doing?" Brent had answered the door and now stared down at me looking a little weirded out.

I held up a finger for him to give me a minute. I was still out of breath. sweat showing on my grey hoodie.

Once I finally caught my breath I straightened immediately, "where's Decan?" I asked, straight out with it.

"Um he's here but-" he started, but then I shoved past him into the house.

I walked towards the living room past Brent. "Sorry Brent but I'm on a mis-"

I stopped dead in my tracks. There, on their stupid fancy couches, sat Decan. WITH BUNNY ON TOP OF HIM. her straight blong hair swooping over his face and her long legs straddling him on his tan couch. Ew ew ew ew ew.

"Shit.." Brent muttered, once he caught up with me.

Decan looked up, pushing Bunny off of him.

"Hope? Um wait what are you doing here?" He asked confused, then he looked down at Bunny who was now sprawled on the floor, and his eyes widened, "oh Hope no! We weren't..it's not-"

I bolted. I think my brain stopped working at this point. I began rambling non sense as I ran,"nope, nope, nope. Not happening. Retracing steps."

When I reached outside again It was still cool out, spring just beginning. Someone was watering their lawn. I scared them with my crazy rambling and my running, that the old man holding the hose jumped, and sprayed me, accidentally with freezing cold water. My grey hoodie and black leggings clung to me. I kept running though.

I got home, opened the front door, and couldn't make it to my room. I fell to the ground and lay face down on my house's wooden floors, in front of the front door. The realization of how crappy my life was consuming me.

"Honey, what are you doing?"my mom asked coming out of the kitchen. She held a red and white cloth in her hand and must have been finishing up the dishes.

"My life sucks."

"Why are you wet?" My dad asked. He must have also came out of the kitchen. He sounded very confused.

"I got sprayed with a hose."

"Wait honey are you being bullied?!? Did some bully be mean to you? Who is he I'll call his parents??"

"Mom, no one is bullying me," I reassured her, as I rolled onto my back, "unless you count life as a bully," I sat up then, and pushed myself to my feet. "I'm gonna go up to my room now."

"Oh ok honey, are you ok though? Do you want cookies?" She asked, concerned. My dad stood beside her, his arms crossed across his brown sweater.

I may have not mentioned this before but my parents were a pretty odd couple. My mom was taller then my dad by a couple inches. My mom had long hazel hair like mind but green eyes. While my dad was bald, slightly chubby, with the same hazel eyes as mine. My dad and mom were both....different from what you would consider regular parents. Sometimes I was more adult then they were. But they were nothing less then amazing to me, and I would always love them.

"No mom. Thanks though. I'll eat dinner in my room."

with that I turned around and walked up to my room. I collapsed on my bed and decided to take a nap, not bothering to change out of my wet clothing. I believe in the quote "when life gets tough, take a nap."  and that's exactly what I was going to do. I mean I could try and think things through. obviously there was never going to be a Decan and I. I could find someone else. I mean there are other fish in the sea, but none like Decan. and even though I was embarrassed, emotionally and physically exhausted, and soaking wet with cold water; does not mean my life is over. there is no reason to get all torn up over a stupid boy. I felt trickles of warmth on my cheeks. I wiped at my eyes. but he wasn't just a stupid boy. I knew that. I also knew that, no matter what I tried to tell myself, he would never be just some stupid boy to me.

I welcomed sleep when it came. exhaustion making my eyes droop shut. my thoughts slowed to a stop. and the feeling of embarrassment and hurt disappeared.

   --------------

I looked at Bunny as she ran to Decan. Her floppy ears bounced along with her.

"Oh Decan I love you come to me my love!"

Decan was starring at me though. He turned to Bunny then back to me, hesitation flickered across his face.

"No Decan! She's gonna eat you! Come to me!"

He smiled at me and first I thought it was endearing. Then he began to laugh at me! Like full out laughing his head off.

He was laughing because I was pathetic. Because I didn't compare to Bunny.

"But Decan!!" I yelled out to him reaching with my weirdly tiny arms. Why were they so tiny??

He was walking to Bunny. The distance between me and him getting farther apart.

In a flash he stood beside her and kissed bunny. her white long ears perked straight up and her long silver bold hair sparkling like diamonds. her little body pressed against his. And out grew her Bunny fangs, that I somehow knew she had.

"NOOO DEcAN SHE'S GONNA EAT YOU! SHE'S GONNA EAT YOU!!!!!!!"

My body was suddenly shaken violently.

My eyes snapped open, "NOO-"

"Sweety wake up! You're having a nightmare," my mom said, still shaking me.

"Ok! Ok! I'm awake!" My voice came out like a vibration because she was shaking me so hard.

"Are you ok?? What were you dreaming about??" She asked worried.

I thought about it for a moment. Ya, what the heck was I dreaming about? I remember Decan and Bunny. But I guess Bunny was actually part Bunny because she had....ears? Gosh I was messed up. But it was funny.

I smiled up at my mom, who still hovered over me. I could practically see question marks floating above her head.

"Ya I'm ok. And I don't know, I can't remember my dream," I lied. My mom didn't need to worry about how messed up my brain is.

"Well...ok sweety if you're sure. I came to tell you me and you're father are going to do some grocery shopping. We're out of eggs and milk. You call me right away if you need anything. I'll be locking the door when I leave. I'm sorry I woke you up for this. I wasn't going to but I heard you talking in your sleep and-"

"Seriously mom I'm fine, it was just a nightmare. Don't worry about me. Worry about dad and his junk food addiction. Something tells me you are going to be bringing home more then just milk and eggs," I commented, making her smile.

"You're probably right," she chuckled and shook her head.

She stood up from my bed, and walked to my bedroom door. But turned to me before sneaking out, "whoever the boy is, he would be stupid not to choose you." After that she closed the door.

I looked at the closed door, shocked. So she knew. I must not be as hard to read as I thought I was. But then again she was my mom. She knew me better then anyone else. Plus from some of the stories she's told me in the past, she also had experience with rejection from boys.

I checked the time on my phone. It read 8:00 pm. I also noticed I had like a gazillion messages from people. Not to mention a lot of friend requests. Apparently someone made a page called the Pranksters on Facebook.

I shook my head. This was seriously getting out of hand. People really needed to chill out.

The texts were from Della, Sandra, Sadie, Decan and even one from Blake and Brent.

I didn't read them however. Instead I turned my phone off. If there was an emergency my mom would have to call the house phone.

I jumped slightly, as my stomach let out a roar into the silence of my bedroom. I get it, I get it. You're hungry man, shush now. I patted my stomach.

I left my room and headed down the stairs. My mom and dad had left my dinner down here. Which was some fancy squash soup with some fancy french bread buttered on the side. My stomach growled and my mouth watered at the site of it.

I warmed it up in the microwave eagerly. Soup is a feel good food, and exactly what I needed. Another feel good food? DOUBLE CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM! And I was just in luck that we had some. I was smart enough to have hidden it from my dad when we got some.

I headed upstairs with my feel good food. All the yumminess making me hungrier by the minute.

I got to my door and it was closed. I was sure I had left it open when I headed down stairs. But then again after the dream I had, I'm pretty sure I was loosing it.

I put the little tub of ice cream down onto the floor. Holding my soup with one hand I opened the door.

A dark figure sat on my bed. His black hoody covered his face.

"AHHHHHHHH!!" I screamed, and flung my hot squash soup at the burglar's face.

The burglar shot up, and the soup literally collided with his head.

Thick orange goop flew everywhere. Covering my walls and bed spread. the plastic ikea bowl bounced off and clattered to the hard wood ground

"Hope! What the heck!!!" Decan shouted.

His hood was down now, and his face had the orange goop dripping down it. Though, most of it was on his hood. which was a minute ago black, but now was a dark orange.

"I thought you were a burglar!!!!" I shouted back at him.

He looked at me bewildered. "And the first thing that comes to your mind is to throw your soup at the burglar!!?!?"

"If you were one, it Would have slowed you down!" I argued back.

His face was red from the heat of the soup and all the yelling.

"Plus!" I began, "why the the heck are you sitting all in black on my bed?!?" I screamed at him.

"Well I wanted to talk to you and I knew you would tell your parents to send me away and you weren't answering your phone, so I climbed up your window and-"

"You climbed up my window?!?" I shouted.

I ran to my window which was across my room. I looked down. All I saw was the fence separating my yard from the neighbours. Theres was nothing else to climb onto. No trees or roof gutter. The fence was to short for me to imagine someone climbing to reach my window.

"Its easier then it looks.." He trailed off.

I looked at him in disbelief.

"Ok so what? You did some fancy gymnastics to get into my room. Still doesn't explain why it was so important for you to break into my house. Last I checked, you were having fun underneath some girl," I sneered at him, angrily.

"First, I didn't break into your house the window was open. Second You know I wouldn't do something like that to you. Even if you saw what you did, you know there is more to the story ."

We had a starring contest for a minute. Ending, when I dropped my gaze.

"Why not? Some attractive girl like Bunny basically throwing herself at you and-"

"And thats exactly what she did!" He interrupted, looking exasperated.

I looked at him confused, tilting my head slightly.

"I took her home cuz I felt bad for using her for the prank. I mean she may get around, but she's still a person. I was trying to tell her I didn't like her like that, which I don't, when she literally jumped on me!" He exclaimed.

I laughed. Which took him by surprise. His green eyes widening.

"She actually did that? Like people actually do that?" I asked, laughing.

"You're......laughing?" He questioned. He looked scared and confused. "You're supposed to be upset."

"I am. Why should I believe you?" I ask simply, knowing I do sort of believe him. I mean it's Bunny we're talking about.

"You know why. What were you coming to tell me at my house?"

"I know nothing and I came to tell you you're a butt," I answer.

He gives me a stern look, his green eyes narrowing.  "You know you should believe me because you know I've liked you from the very first day I spillt my drink on your head."

I looked at him wide eyed, my mouth hanging open. He said it. Its out in the open. I mean I figured. But its one thing from thinking it to actually hearing it. Decan liked me.

In two sturdy strides he was in front of me. He cupped my cheeks gently, making me meet his green eyes with my hazel ones.

"I like you even though you are the most stubborn, frustrating girl I've ever met," he confessed, still looking into my eyes.

I smiled, I felt tears on my cheeks. But they were not from the same feelings I got after I saw Bunny on top of Decan. These were tears of pure happiness.

"I came to tell you, that I like you too," I said.

He pulled me close then. Completely engulfing me into his chest. I dried my tears on his black hoodie, and once again laughed.

"Hey," I said pulling back from him, "if I ever start a career in breaking and entering, could I use this hoodie?"

He laughed, "ya if you don't mind the lingering smell of orange goop."
