Chapter 9

SONG: THERE SHE GOES - THE LA'S

Frank returned to where the two where this time with a guitar, that looked small compared to his figure. Rosed sat in between her mothers legs, elevating and resting her bandaged arm on Lily's knee as Lily wrapped her arms loosely round her daughter's waist getting her small pad out and continuing with her drawing as Rose watched intently.

"You're staring how do I make it stop?" Lily spoke breaking the comfortable silence.

"I'm just not used to seeing women in pants, that's all."

"Awfully interested in our apparel, Frank get your head around it." Lily slightly rolled her eyes as she picked up her cup beside her taking a sip of her drink. Frank started delicately strumming his guitar figuring out keys as Lily continued with her drawing and Rose watched, casually drifting off to sleep with her head rested on her mother's chest.

"You know, you really bring those eyes to life." The silence was broken again causing Rose's eyes to open, this time Frank breaking the silence. "Your perspective's a little off, though."

"What?" Lily scoffed bringing the drawing closer to her to get a better look. "Well, you're right, annoyingly." Lily added.

"Do you draw then Frank owes me money?" Rose slightly shifted in her mother's grasp, from lying on her back to lying on her side to face Frank more.

"Used to." Frank sighed at the frequently used nickname from the teenager.

"Why'd you stop?" Rose asked interestedly.

"Do you always ask this many questions?"

"It was only two!"

"I drew everything I wanted to draw. Then I figured I'd learn something new." Frank answered the previous question lifting his guitar slightly indicating this was his new hobby.

"Or perhaps you just need some proper inspiration." Lily shrugged as Rose nodded in agreement.

"What about you?" Frank put his guitar down facing the two women.

"Never lack for inspiration!" Lily scoffs.

"Mother like daughter!" Rose smirks indicating she neither lacked for inspiration.

"No, I mean, what're you doing out here? Chasing maps all over the place? Or is this your idea fun?" Franks directs the question more to Lily.

"The Tears of the Moon-" Lily begins before Franks interrupts her by scoffing.

"Oh, come on!"

"I believe that the legend is real!"

"Which it's not!"

"You're so boring Frank owes me money, live a little!"

"I lived! I've done it all. And like I've told your stubborn mother here! The Tears of the Moon re not real I've searched high and low for them."

"Probably needs a woman's touch." Rose shrugged, smiling to herself at Franks reaction.

"But Frank imagine, when i find the Tears of the Moon, just imagine the lives that could be saved. Legend says one petal from the Tree will heal anything! It will change medicine forever. It's the beginning of a scientific revolution. It's very exciting Frank!" Lily picked her pad back up adding to her drawing of the monkey she had spotted earlier on.

"So, you wanna be the Darwin of flowers?" Frank furrowed his eyebrows thinking his was funny.

"And I want to help as many people as I can!" Lily added.

"Wanna save the world?"

"She didn't say 'save the world'"

"It's very noble of you Pants!" Frank smirked as Lily rolled her eyes.

"Well, thank you."

"It's also very stupid."

"You're stupid!" Rose mumbled.

"You are deeply unpleasant!" Lily sight heavily as Frank continued to play his guitar. "And off-key!" Lily smirked as she secretly gave her daughter a mini high-five.

"So, you'd rather risk your life, your brother's life and mini-pants's life-"

"Rose!" Both Lily and Rose corrected the man in sync.

"To save people you don't even know?!" Frank continued ignoring the interruption and correction.

"Well, I don't have to know someone to care." Lily shrugged.

"Well, I don't have to care about anybody, period." Frank continued to play his guitar.

"That's apparent!" Lily mumbled to herself.

"I just think if you're lucky enough to have one person in this life to care about, then that's world enough for me. And you not only have one person but you have two people, so does MacGregor and so does Mini-Pants, you should treasure it and not risk losing it!"

"That's world enough for me!" Lily mouthed the phrase Frank mentioned shrugging at how much it made sense about to go back to her drawing before MacGregor rushed towards them squealing and screaming, quickly followed by the jaguar from the bar earlier on.

"Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness!" Lily stood up in panic as the jaguar approached them, MacGregor especially. "Rose darling get behind me! Oh, my goodness, MacGregor!" MacGregor stumbled backwards as the jaguar jumped up at him now face to face with him, snarling, MacGregor whimpering.

"Proxima! Proxima!" Frank demanded towards the big cat before it started licking MacGregor's face. "Heel there, Proxima! Proxima, heel. Heel. Proxima!" The big cat finally got off MacGregor and approached Frank as he patted him. Rose secretly going to pet the big cat, her mother being too distracted at yelling at Frank at helping MacGregor up.

"Is there a single thing I can trust about you?!" Lily sighed. "ROSE DOROTHY HOUGHTON GET AWAY FROM THAT THING!" Lily sighed loudly going back to yelling t Frank as he replied with a blunt 'no' to Lily's previous question. Lily went off to below deck with MacGregor. "Rose i won't tell you again, get away from the big cat and come to bed." Lily sighed again walking off with MacGregor.

"Get a good rest kiddo." Frank smiled up at Rose as he patted her back as she went off below deck not before saying goodnight to the big cat, Proxima, getting a lick back. "Night Frank, night again Proxima."

"Great timing!" Frank sighs at Proxima.

"Come on love you must be shattered, you've had a long day get some rest." Lily opened her arms widely as she made some room on the bed as there were only two beds available seeing as MacGregor had taken one to himself, Lily and Rose were sharing which was no problem to them.

Rose crawled into bed tiredly into her mother's arms nuzzling into the crook of her neck as Lily combed her fingers through her daughter's hair and rubbing her back soothingly trying her best to not accidentally touch or knock her bandaged arm incase it would hurt her. Soon, Lily heard the soft snores come from her daughter knowing her daughter was asleep, safe and peaceful Lily let sleep consume her.
