Chapter 3

SONG: KILLER QUEEN - QUEEN

LILY AND MACRGEGOR SAT IN LAVISH COMFY SEATS, WHEREAS THEY WERE OBLIVIOUS THAT THEIR DAUGHTER AND NEICE WERE CRAMPED IN ONE OF MACGREGORS CLOTHES CASE.

During the train ride Rose hopped out of one of her Uncle's case as it was getting too cramped and luckily she wasn't going to be caught be her Uncle or mother as they were in a different carriage to the storage one, even though Lily only had one case and it was small, they still needed it because of MacGregor.

Rose sat amongst the many cases for the whole train ride till it came to a stop with the train horn tooting. Rose saw her chance to sneak off before people found her when she heard her Uncle give a tip to someone asking them to take care of the luggage.

Rose made her way into what looked like a hotel or at least a restaurant, luckily there was a bar as Rose was parched and gasping for anything to drink. "One water please." The young girl smiled politely at the man behind the bar whilst getting some change out of her back trouser pocket.

"Oh, what fresh hell is this?" Rose heard the familiar voice of her Uncle's, she could almost see his disgusted face if she turned around but hung her head to stay hidden.

"Oh, I love it!" Lily sighed, as Rose heard her mother's footsteps approach, getting louder and louder still she appeared by the man next to you who had his head hung almost like he was dead, or maybe just asleep. "Excuse me, um, do you know Mr Nilo." Rose saw her mother touch the man's shoulder gently to get his attention but failed to see that he was asleep resulting in him falling off his chair.

"Perhaps I should search for Mr Nilo elsewhere. There's always a chance he's at the hotel bar." MacGregor insisted to his sister.

"Fine but be quick about it or I'll leave without you." Lily sighed desperately at her brother, nearly having enough with him.

"Oh, that option is becoming increasingly desirable." MacGregor gasped dramatically making Lily chuckle and Rose as well but she still had to be quiet.

"Excuse me." Rose then felt a tap on her shoulder and just before she could run off it was too late. "ROSE DOROTHY HOUGHTON WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" Lily placed her hands on her hips, face turning red with anger.

"Um surprise?" Lily then grabbed her daughter's wrist standing her up from her chair. "Ow mum that hurts."

"I am really finding it hard to feel sorry for you when you do this sort of stuff Rose. Excuse me Mr Nilo's office?" Lily kept a firm grip on Rose's wrist asking the man behind the bar where the office was as he pointed to the stairs behind him indicating to go upstairs. "Upstairs. Thank you. Obri.."

"Obrigada." Rose smiled at the man thanking him in his native language helping her mother to figure out the word she was trying to remember. Lily dragged her daughter up the stairs behind her walking through the hallway eventually finding a wooden door with a blurred window with the name 'Mr Nilo' spread across it.

"Mr Nilo? Hello?" Lily knocked on the door as Rose found it as her time to push her mother hand off her wrist as the tight grip Lily had on her was really starting to hurt.

"Frank owes me money." The two heard a slightly high-pitched voice coming from the other side of the door.

"Oh, there you are. I was hoping we might have a small business chat." Lily leaned on the door whilst Rose leaned on the wall next to the door crossing her arms feeling stupid that her mother caught her that easily and quickly, knowing she was in for it later. When the voice behind the door told Lily it wasn't the right time and telling her to come back tomorrow, she tried again, she wasn't giving up. "My name is Dr. Lily Houghton, and my brother and I, also my daughter..." Lily sighed in slight anger remembering she had an extra person to take care of now slightly glaring at her daughter. "... we are looking for passage upriver. I'm told that you are the man for the job."

"You were told wrong."

"That's impossible, because you come..." Lily tried to barge the side of her body into the door hoping it would pry it open. "... highly recommend."

"I have an idea... go away!" Rose and her mother sighed in desperation as Rose stood up straight suggesting for her mother to move aside as Rose walked a bit away from the door. "Mr Nilo, your name is plastered all over the boats outside. I think you're being a bit unreasonable." Lily continued her conversation whilst swatting her hand at Rose indicating for whatever she was about to do, to not to do it.

"You're the one trying to break down my door." Rose started to run towards the door hoping to break it down. "I have a lot of money." Rose heard her mother say before the door swung open to show a large, muscular man. Rose wasn't able to stop herself causing her to collide with the man's body, seeing as he was way bigger than her, causing her to be knocked down to the floor.

"Jesus Christ you're a giant!" Rose sighed laying on the floor.

"Rose get off the floor." Lily folded her arms faking a smile to the man in front of them with embarrassment.

"Hello, my name is Rose. Pleasure to meet you!" The young teenager held out a hand to the man whilst smiling.

"Why is this 10-year-old speaking to me?" He pointed at Rose looking at Lily for an answer.

"She's 17 but that's not the point!" Lily rolled her eyes. "The point is, we..., I want to hire you. To be our skipper." Lily walked into the office as he trailed her actions still standing in the doorway as Rose squeezed through the gap left between the man and the frame of the door awkwardly smiling at him on the way, before walking over and sitting in the corner as her mother laid out a map on the man's desk. "Now we're headed upriver, in the direction of the Peruvian Andes. This region doesn't really have a name on the conventional map, but it was known to some as Lágrimas de Cristal."

"You're wearing pants." The man nodded at Rose catching her attention.

"Trousers." Rose corrected the man silently to herself.

"So are you. You're wearing pants as well." The man nodded again but this time to Lily.

"Trousers." Both of the women corrected him this time in sync. "And yes so are you." Lily nodded towards him.

"Is that what women do in England now? Or is just you two? Is like a family thing? Mother and daughter thing?" The man genuinely asked making the two women furrow their eyebrows in confusion at his questions.

'Well, we're not in England last time we checked." Rose smirked.

"I don't like her." Frank pointed at Rose whilst pouring himself a drink.

"Same goes to you." Rose scoffed as she got up from her seat wandering around the office. Coming across a cage with a blanket draped over it.

"Now, look as shocking as the pants are, I'd really..." Lily began to start her pitch, trying to stop the two 'children' from bickering. "Frank owes me money." Rose jumped at the familiar sound she had heard from earlier on, then taking the blanket off the open cage to show a parrot.

"Who's Frank?" Lily chuckles at the parrot joining her daughter in petting the pretty bird. "I have no idea." The man quickly shut down Lily's question not really bothering Lily, however with Rose, it caught her attention. "I will have a little something, whatever you're having." Lily took the man up on his previous offer of a drink. "So do you know the region, Mr Nilo?" Lily questioned.

"Well, if it's the Amazon River, I know it. And Lady, I could tell you, of all the places in the world you can go, the last place you wanna go is Lágrimas de Cristal.

"Oh, but I do. And I will."

"Oh, but you won't, Pants." The man smirked at the nickname he had given. "Um for your information it's Lily." Rose but in from behind the adults still admiring the bird.

"Why is mini-Pants-"

"Rose!" the young girl corrected him.

"Mini Pants! Why is she still here?"

"Because I'm useful!"

"Rose go downstairs for me please! And don't wander off!" Lily gave her a desperate look with pleading eyes. "But-" Rose began to argue before the man began to shush her. "Shush shush the adults are talking go play with the other children mini-Pants." The man turned back to Lily probably smirking to himself thinking he was so funny. Rose huffed as she stood up as her mother mouthed a 'thank you' Rose took the man's glass of whiskey off the table pouring it onto his lap before walking out of the room, only hearing a snippet of what the man had to say about her actions. "Does she have to come along, or can I throw her overboard?"
