Chapter 20

SONG: IT MUST BE LOVE - MADNESS

"Should I turn around?" Frank pointed to the wheel as Lily stood up to follow Rose.

"Just keep driving." Lily continued to storm off below deck after Rose. "What?! How?! Why?! What are you doing here?!" Lily stuttered whilst yelling.

"I'm here because I want to help you and I'm not staying with Trader Sam and Uncle Mac worrying about what could happen to you!" Rose snapped back.

"It's not your job to worry about me!"

"Well guess what! I do! You're my Mum! You're my best friend and one of the only people I put all my trust in and and love more than you'll ever know." Tears brimmed Rose's eyes. "And then you just go and leave me to worry about you without even warning me first, no goodbye whatsoever. I had to hear it from a complete stranger for gods sake that you were about to leave!!" Rose's voice broke at the last part.

"Rose sweetheart-" Lily tried to reason with her but Rose stormed off before she could slamming the door shut to Franks cabin. Lily following close behind before getting the door in her face."Rose just open up and let me apologise properly." Lily sighed heavily knocking on the door. But no answer.

"Pants." Frank called from above the stairs as he turned his head Lily quickly wiped away the tears hopefully removing the evidence of her showing vulnerability so Frank wouldn't mock her. "Dinner's nearly ready." Frank, without Lily noticing, looked at her sympathetically. "Oh yeah thanks." Lily sighed heavily walking back up to deck as Frank watched the door you closed behind you. He sighed hesitantly before walking down the steps knocking on the door.

"Mini Pa- Rose?" No answer. "Rose it's me Frank, come on open up you need to get some food inside of you." The door opened to reveal Rose's shaking body, with tear stain marks down her cheeks and red puffy eyes. Frank felt like he had to comfort the small girl but didn't know how, he spent most of the years of his life on his own, of course not forgetting Proxima but Proxima was a jaguar, not a person. Frank wasn't good at this kind of stuff.

"Listen kiddo I- she- we." Frank rested his hand on Rose's shoulder stuttering at what to say before he was interrupted by Rose attempting to wrap her arms around his muscular body for a hug. Frank froze for a second before returning the hug patting her on the back.

"You want some food?" Frank mumbled breaking the silence.

"As long as it's not Piranha?" She made Frank chuckle.

"Nahh Trader Sam gave me some extra food." Frank rubbed her back before releasing from the hug and guiding her up the stairs to the deck for dinner.

Lily was steering the boat whilst eating, the plate by her side, as Rose took a seat at the bow of the boat eating her food as well, unbeknownst to her that her mother was watching her sadly.

"Let me help you." Frank disturbed the silence on the boat coming behind Lily, trying to help her steer, placing both his hand son top of hers, each arm either side of her.

"No, it's my turn." Lily protested looking away from Rose.

"Okay. You gotta listen to her." Frank referred to the engine, leaving silence so they could hear the engine throbbing and humming. "It's perfect."

"Pretty good." Lily agreed.

"Yeah." Frank shrugged. "Now we can just cruise." Frank smiled at her as Lily turned round after shifting the gears as steam hisses. There was silence as Lily and Frank made constant eye contact, remaining the close distant between them.

"Ugh get a room." Rose rolls her eyes passing them going back down below deck to get ready for bed. As Lily and Frank tried to shrug the awkward tension off. But found each other making eye contact.

"Do you know how many years people have been looking for that?" Frank pointed to the Arrowhead still wrapped around Lily's neck.

"This old thing?" Lily smirks.

"Yeah that old thing. How is it that you turn up with it?"

"I stole it. Well we. Or liberated you could say." Lily smirks again.

"Rose aswell?"

"Yeah." Lily chuckled to herself. "Leading role she was, I was the one chasing after her."

"That does sound like Rose." Lily hums in agreement smiling to herself. "She'll come round eventually, she love you to much to hate you forever."

"You think?"

"I've lived for many, many, MANY years! Even though I've been stuck in one place I've never seen a mother daughter relationship like yours. I've never seen a daughter look at her mother with a huge amount of love the way Rose looks at you. You can by the way she looks at you and how she acts around you that you're the most important thing to her, she looks up to you, and thinks you're awesome."

"Do you think I'm awesome?"

"Now I didn't say that I said Rose looks at you like that." They both laugh quietly.

"What are you gonna do when you find the tree?"

"Lift the curse."

"But what will happen to you?"

"Well..." Frank sighs heavily. "I get to make a choice. And I chose to rest." Lily's face falls as she turns away from Frank to hide her vulnerability. "Hey, Lily, look. Everything that you see that's new in this world, I've seen hundreds of thousands of times."

"Yes but none of it has been meaningful."
