Solitude

The 1940s, where the best pies were baked, and the town folks knew all about the beautiful girl with the front tooth gap. She was the sensation of the community, the diner always crowded to buy those 0.40cents pies; and while at it, daydream with the brunette who so happens to be the waitress of the local.

Lemons, strawberries, peaches, chocolate-you name it. The diner had those warmth dough pastries, ready to be delighted with a munch.

When you finished your softball game not too many miles away from the diner, you decided to fill your belly with some sweets. There was nothing better than Owl's Night diner to please that sweet tooth.

You knew the place very well. Owl's night was were you spent most of the time, having some solitude with a strawberry pie and a hot coffee-extra sugar.

So when the beautiful girl with the cutest front tooth gap that showed whenever she smiled arrived to your table; you couldn't help, but beamed at her back. She was sweet-like honey.

"Hey, Y/n. Glad to see you around. Softball game today?" she asked, pouring you a coffee with extra sugar on the side. Your uniform was dirty from sliding to the bases multiple times. You felt a tad embarrassed, but truthfully, you just wanted to swing by the diner for some food – and maybe to see her. She was the most stunning girl you'd ever laid eyes on, and you understood why the men adored her.

"I'm happy to see you too, Alexa," you smiled, before explaining, "Yes, just got done with a softball match. Hence the dirty uniform. Apologies for that." She immediately shook her head, giggling.

"Oh, cut it, Y/n. No need to apologize for that! You still look cute," she remarked, and you gazed at her with tender eyes. "You should invite me sometime to your games. I can be your personal cheerleader."

You chuckled. "Would you really come to a softball game? I mean, you're always here at the diner."

"I might be here often, but I do have my days off, you know?" she giggled, adjusting her apron around her waist. It fit her curves perfectly. She was flawless.

After a moment's pause, you nodded. "Alright, I have another game this Friday. Would you like to come?"

"Absolutely!" she exclaimed without hesitation, and you grinned. "I'm off Friday, so definitely yes."

"Okay, but don't bail on me. Because I'll be sad if you do."

"Oh, that won't happen; trust me. Besides, I've been dying to hang out with you," she confessed, and your eyes widened. "I mean, you're a regular. You're always around here, drinking your hot coffee and eating your strawberry pie. I've grown to like you a lot, Y/n. I don't know why, but you're my favorite customer."

Hearing her say those words made you ecstatic about her feelings towards you. You were indeed a regular, but most of the time, you dropped by just to chat with the brunette. So, hearing her admit that made you very happy.

"And you're my favorite waitress, Alexa," you smiled, as an elderly woman placed a coin in the jukebox, playing Billie Holiday's "Solitude." "Would you like to come with me tonight to see Louis Armstrong? I just heard the jazz music from the jukebox and remembered Louis is coming to town," you invited, and Alexa nodded eagerly, flashing her adorable tooth gap and dimples.

You adored that tooth gap.

"Of course, count me in," she scribbled her home address on a sticky note used for orders, handing it to you. "That's my home address. I hope you don't bail on me; because I'll be sad if you do," she teased, echoing your earlier words, and you chuckled.

"Oh, that won't happen, trust me. Besides, I've been dying to hang out with you," you teased back, though in reality, it wasn't entirely a jest. You genuinely wanted to spend time with her.

"Stop mocking me," Alexa giggled. "But seriously, swing by, okay?"

"I definitely will, Alexa," you nodded warmly. The diner's doorbells chimed as Alexa's boss entered.

"Let me get you the usual before I get scolded by the boss," Alexa smiled as she excused herself from the table.

The diner was a charming place, all because Alexa made it so.

Perhaps, were you in love with her?
