Maddy had a crush on Rue Bennet, the drug dealer of the school. She was very laid back, lovable, and talkative with everyone she met. Rue was known for selling the goodies to the students without faculty finding out. That was her job, and the school was her way of income. It was crazy, but everyone kept their mouth shut because the goodies were good and well priced. A good deal kept the people happy.

This past week though, Maddy had been receiving sticky notes on her locker by someone named,
the " secret admirer." She was excited to receive them because she knew it was Rue.

First day,

excited to spend science class with you today. you look beautiful, like always :3

" Oh my god..," Maddy giggled, reading the note. You were leaning against the locker besides hers, chuckling as she read the note out loud.

" That's funny," You laughed, and she looked at you rolling her eyes.

" Don't be jealous, boo ," she smiled, closing the locker door.

" I'm not, trust me. Sticky notes? Really? That's just stupid," You replied, the two of you walking to science class.

Inside class, Rue was sitting on the back, smiling at Maddy as she came in. Maddy nervously waved her a hello, and sat down  in front of the room. As you took a seat next to her, she started to whisper you with excitement at how cute Rue looked.

" Really, Maddy? She's literally wearing bagged jeans and an oversized shirt. You find that cute? God..."

And then, the sticky notes would kept falling down her locker whenever she opened it.

Everyday.

Second day,

I'll see you in your cheerleader practice today. by the way, you look beautiful, like always :3

And then, you saw Rue sat down at one of the bleachers, watching Maddy practice her cheerleader dance. You've never seen her come to the gym to watch Maddy, so this took you by surprise. She usually would always be in the lunchroom, selling her stuff; but this time, she was here. And you were shocked. Maddy in the other hand, looked at you with excitement and you could tell what she was trying to tell you telepathically. Rue was her secret admirer. After the practice was over, Rue left the gymnasium, and Maddy came running down to you with a smile plastered on her face.

Third day,

I saw you in the library, and the way your lips pursed while you concentrated doing your homework was cute. Hahaha. I know this sounds kinda creepy, but I'm not trying to make it sound that way! I swear! and by the way, you look beautiful. Like always :3

" Yeah, that definitely sounded creepy," You joked, once Maddy finished reading it and poked you on the shoulder.

" Shut up! This was very cute, oh my god! And she was actually there, remember!"

Earlier that day, you and Maddy were sat down in one of the library tables doing homework. You were at one side, while Maddy sat opposite from you. The two of you were researching information of Cleopatra. The history teacher had paired the two of you to make an essay about her past and her relationship with Julius Caesar. Not too later, Rue appeared and sat at the table next to yours, with one of her friends.

Rue and Maddy exchanged looks for the rest of the time. And you had to beg Maddy to concentrate on the homework, because she was getting too distracted.

Fourth day,

im sorry about what happened today in gym class. i might have to kick Cassie's ass for doing that to you, hehe. But jokes aside, I hope you feel better. And you look beautiful, like always

" Come on ladies, get your head in the game!," the gym coach shouted, as you dribbled the ball down the field. Today's game was soccer. And the coach divided the girls into two teams. You were on the red team, while Maddy and Rue were in the blue team.

While you dribbled the ball forward, you immediately passed it to one of your team member, Cassie. She took the ball, and went running down the field. Rue was following her behind, but Cassie stood firm. As she kicked the ball to score a shot, Maddy, who was the goalkeeper, got ready. Sadly, she wasn't quick to react, which made the ball strike directly onto her face. She felt down to the grass, dizzy.

Everyone ran and surrounded the petite that went unconscious for a few seconds.

" Maddy...hey! are you okay?," You spoke concerned, as you bent down to hover her arm around your shoulder. Rue at the other hand, did the same, helping you stand the brunette up from the grass.

" Rue, Y/n, please take her down to the nurse," the coach commanded, and both of you agreed to do so.

In the office, the registered nurse began to inspect her. She check her eyes with a flashlight, and then asked her a few questions regards to how she was feeling.

The nurse ended up giving her a bag of ice. Because of course, that fixes everything.

" Oh my god, she got worried!," Maddy squealed, closing the locker door and stashing the note on her pocket.

" How cute," You laughed, as the two of you made your way to the cafeteria for lunch.

In the lunchroom, Rue later came to the table and asked her how she was feeling.

" I feel good, thank you..," Maddy shyly replied, and she nodded.

Rue's eyes were red and squinted, lost in her little green world of that good stash she smoked.

" Bet," she smiled at Maddy, and then left to seat down with her friend, Jules.

" When is she going to tell me it's her? god!," Maddy groaned, but kept her smile intact.

" She's probably shy to do so," You laughed, and Maddy pouted.

Fifth day,

" Ugh," Maddy squealed, pressing the note against her chest.

Sixth day,

today is your day to shine. Good luck at tonight's performance. You'll do great. By the way, you look beautiful, like always :3

It was 7:00pm and tonight was your school football game. The bleachers were all packed with students, anxiously waiting for the game to begin. Rue was a bleacher below yours, hanging out with Jules. She had her jacket hood on, exchanging smokes with the blonde.

You at the other hand, were with Lexi. She was eating a hot dog, while you drank some Gatorade.

When the cheerleaders came running down the field with their pomp-pomps jiggling, you and Lexi started to applaud at your friend's arrival.

Rue did the same. Her eyes fixed on Maddy, as she pointed down at her, and whispered something on Jules ear.

By the end of the game, victory was accomplished, and everyone was pumped.

Seventh day,

yesterday your performance was more exciting than the game, trust me hahaha. I couldn't stop looking at you. You're perfect, Maddy. tomorrow is the homecoming dance... I hope to see you there, and tell you who I am. Which hopefully, you won't be too disappointed. And like always, you look beautiful today :3

" Oh my god, Y/n! She's going to reveal herself tomorrow at the homecoming dance, look!," Maddy squealed, showing you the note.

You took a look at it, and chuckled. " Finally!"

" Oh god, I'm actually so nervous, Y/n! I'm freaking out ! I can't I can't I can't!," she began to panic, and you placed your hands on her shoulders, holding her still.

" Maddy, stop!," You giggled. " It'll be fine, trust me. Just breathe, okay? "

She relaxed her shoulders and nodded. " Okay.."

Then Rue passed by the two of you, waving a hello to Maddy with a smirk on her face.

Maddy began to panic again.

Maddy was wearing a tight black dress, that molded her curves perfectly. It was homecoming dance and the school gym was decorated nicely, with dimmed lights and a DJ playing music underneath the basketball hoop.

A lot of students were dancing, while others were chatting with their friends. Teachers were roaming around too, watching carefully the movement of the scholars. You were with Maddy by her side. You decided that a simple tuxedo would do. Maddy had her hands wrapped around your arm, as both of you stepped in, inspecting the scene. You knew Maddy was trying to find Rue, because that was the first thing she shouted at you, when she found Waldo.

Rue was wearing a tuxedo as well, dancing with Jules. They both were hooked on the music, dancing with contentment.

Jules was the first one who noticed the two of you, and came running down to give Maddy a hug. Maddy wasn't friends with her, so this took her by surprise. But she still ended up accepting her embrace with wide arms.

Rue most be telling Jules a lot about Maddy.

" Wow! You look extremely sexy, Maddy!," Jules shouted, giving her a spin to appreciate her dress.

" Aw, thank you! So do you!," Maddy smiled, and you placed your hands on your pockets, watching  the two interact.

" Wanna come and say hi to Rue? She's down there," Jules pointed out, and Maddy began to panic. You knew she was panicking, because you understood her body language very well.

" Go ahead, Maddy. Remember what I told you?," She gently nodded, recalling yesterday when you mentioned her to just breathe and trust the process. With Jules taking her by the hand, she took her to Rue, and you stood there alone.

You tried to see if Lexi was around, but you didn't find her. She probably skipped homecoming dance to be studying at home. With a red cup, you grabbed some punch and went to the corner of the gym, watching Maddy from afar.

" Wow! Maddy, you're the hottest girl in here," Rue smiled at Maddy once Jules brought her, and Maddy shyly blushed.

" I know!," Jules agreed, and the two sandwiched Maddy, beginning to dance with her so she could get in the spirit.

Maddy at first was very timid, but as the minutes passed, she was able to loosen herself. The three danced at the rhythm of the song, and you noticed how much fun she was having.

You smiled, taking a sip from your punch.

An hour later, Rue took Maddy aside to a corner, and you knew that's where Rue was going to tell her about the notes she's been leaving on her locker.

Maddy was panicking, but she took a deep breath. Trust the process. She was nervous, but at the same time, very excited. Rue was finally going to confess her about being the secret admirer.

" Maddy...," She began, clearing her throat. " You're fucking sexy, you know that, right? Like, damn. Whenever I see you in school, I honestly get turned on. Fuck, I even been talking to Jules about you," she admitted, and Maddy was blushing. " Maddy, you wanna, I don't know, do you wanna have sex? I know you kinda want to, don't you? Cause' I always see you looking at me all smiling and shit," she chuckled.

Maddy blushed, but was a little confused. " Uh, sex? Rue, I thought you said you were going to reveal yourself tonight?"

" Reveal? What do you mean reveal? Am I Spider-Man, right now? Do you want me to take my mask off?," she joked, and Maddy was taken a little aback.

" Rue, you've been writing notes to me, haven't you? You've been writing notes and leaving them on my locker..."

Now Rue was the one confused. " Notes? I'm sorry Maddy, but I haven't written no notes to you," she clarified. " I don't even take notes at school to begin with."

Maddy stood frozen. If Rue wasn't the one writing these notes to her, then who was it?

She always thought it was her, but now everything was so foggy and uncleared.

" Maddy, you good?," Rue asked her, bringing her back to earth.

" No, Rue. I'm not doing good," Maddy admitted, her eyes beginning to get watery. " I need to go, I'm sorry," she added, rushing out of the gym to the hallway of the school.

Once out, she pressed her back against the lockers, and began to cry. If Rue wasn't the one, who was it?

She began to think. She wanted to know who could it be from the first to last note she received.

She tried to recall all those days.

If Rue wasn't the one, who was?

Maddy began to sob harder, she hated the fact that probably this was somebody messing around with her. Some sick stalker just wanting to pass the time by getting her hopes up.

" Maddy...," You came out of the gym, after seeing her rush out. You pulled her close, embracing her. She whimpered, tears falling down her cheeks like waterfalls.

" Y/n, Rue wasn't the one sending me those notes," she cried against your hug," someone is messing around with me..."

You shook your head. " Maddy, don't say that, please," You pleaded, and she pulled away, looking at you with her mascara all smeared.

" Y/n, who else could it be? I honestly thought it was Rue because she was always staring at me and smiling and I would see her on all those places the notes mentioned. But if it wasn't her, who was it then? Who has been stalking me to know where I've been?," she ran her words crying.

Your heart broke into pieces, you hated seeing her that way.

" Maddy, look at me," You placed your hand underneath her chin, pulling it up so she could meet your eyes and not the floor. " Even when you're crying, you still look beautiful. You look beautiful, like always...," You smiled, using your thumb to clean a tear that was gliding down her cheek.

That's where it hit Maddy.

It wasn't Rue, it was you.

All those notes, it was you.

You were the one who wrote them.

You were the one who was always there at her side.

At science class, you were the one there.

The day of her cheerleader practice, you were the one there.

The day she was on the library, you were the one there.

The day of the soccer incident, you were the one there.

The day of the football game, you were the one there.

And now homecoming, you were the one there.

Now, in front of her.

" Y/n..... it was you?," she whispered, sad eyes looking up at you.

Of course it was you.

You nodded, swallowing lightly. " Are you disappointed?," You asked with sadness. You knew she was going to be. After all, she was fixed on Rue and not you.

There was a moment of silence between the two of you, and you knew that this wasn't going to end well. You knew she was going to be upset, and she was going to stop talking to you. But at least you tried. Even if she didn't see you like anything else, but friends; you were going to understand her. You were actually prepared for a heartbreak.

But then she shook her head and whispered, " No, I'm not disappointed. I'm actually hating myself right now for not realizing it was you all this time," Maddy whispered, her eyes beginning to get watery again. " Why didn't you tell me ?"

" Because you only saw me like your friend and, because you liked Rue," You admitted. " I couldn't find myself telling you this in person, that's why I began to write those notes to you. In hopes that you would somehow guess who it was. But, Rue was always in the picture, and it complicated things. Then after writing those notes, I concluded that I needed to confess it to you. Here, tonight, at homecoming. And no matter the outcome, at least I was going to reveal my feelings for you," You spoke softly, a tear running down Maddy's cheek. " So, if you wanna slap me on the face right now, then do it.."

Maddy let a soft chuckle escape her lips, wiping her tears. " I'm not going to slap you, Y/n. I wanna kiss you for being so stupid," she laughed, and blinked, tears flowing down her cheeks again. No matter how many times she swiped them, they still flowed out.

Your lips began to tremble, eyes getting glossy, as you tried to hold your tears. But with the tight nod you had creeping up your throat, it was impossible. Your first tear escaped down your left cheek, and Maddy moved closer to you. " I'm sorry, Maddy. For putting you through this..," You apologized, and she shook her head.

" You didn't put me through anything, Y/n," she smiled softly, cleaning her tears. " I can't believe I had my secret admirer right in front of me all this time...," Maddy whispered, and you stared at her. Both of you were a mess, and if a teacher came out right now, and saw the two of you like that, they were going to freak out. " Can I kiss you?"

You smiled softly down at her, caressing her cheek with your thumb, " Of course," You nodded, and with the approval, she crashed her lips with yours. Your thought of being rejected tonight was vanished away, when you felt her against you. You let your shoulders relax, kissing her as your world spun around. Maddy deepened the smooch , while your two hands held her face. You always joked about cheesy happy endings on films. They made you roll your eyes and laugh. But right now, if this was a cheesy happy ending, you were totally  loving it.

After the two needed to catch a breath, Maddy pulled away, her forehead against yours and whispered, " Y/n, is it true what you wrote on the note? About whenever you would see me you would get nervous and your heart wanted to beat out of your chest?," she smiled, her once sad eyes, becoming clear with a hint of joy.

You nodded with a chuckle, " Yes, that is very true, and I can prove it. Here-," You took one of her hands, and pressed it against your chest. Your heart was beating like it was on a race with the road runner. It did felt like it was going to blast any second now, and Maddy giggled with surprise.

" I guess mines is competing with yours then," She smiled, taking your own hand now, and pressing it against her heart. Your eyes widened when you felt her. She laughed, and bit her bottom lip. " I hate you for this," she giggled, leaning forward to connect your lips with hers for the second time.

It didn't took long until you heard the gym door open with a teacher shouting at the two of you.

" Hey, no kissing on the hallway!," the faculty member scolded.

You and Maddy chuckled against lips, before the two of you held hands and rushed your way out of the school.

A/n: what a cheesy 🧀 ending lol. believe it or not, I was inspired to do this one-shot after watching " The Barbie Diaries " movie. haha.
