Unexpected

"Red Robin to Nightwing, is everything ok?" Tim's voice rang through the comms. The house was empty, no ghosts. What was the source of the ectoplasmic radiation then?

"Yeah, we've got nothing. Rendezvous in the library." Nightwing announced and jumped off of a shelf. He has searched the whole library with Damian but found nothing.

Soon, light footsteps could be heard, signaling the arrival of Batman and Red Robin. They looked annoyed because of the lack of evidence.

"It looks like the ectoplasmic energy is coming from below. There is no other option." Red Robin informed while checking his wrist computer.

"But there's no secret entrance, we searched everything father." Robin said, his patience running out.

"What if there's a secret button in that statue?" Red asked jokingly.

"That would be too obvious. No one hides secret buttons in statues." Nightwing raised an eyebrow but reached for the small statue lying on the table anyway. To his surprise, the head reclined and revealed a big red button.

"I told you." Red smirked and pushed the button. A hissing sound could be heard from the library, revealing a small staircase leading down. "Why would a billionaire have a secret basement?" Nightwing asked dumbfounded. His brothers looked amused and Batman snickered. "Oh." Was all he could say before he walked down the stairs to hide his embarrassment.

It was dark until a soft glow colored the walls green. Weird equipment was scattered everywhere along with green puddles.

"This is the source." Tim informed and put down him wrist computer. "This must me a ghost lab, something like Fenton works."

"That must be some kind of a weapon vault." Damian said and pointed to the octagon shaped entrance.

"It can't be. A weapon vault doesn't have on and off switch." Batman corrected his son. He stepped closer and examined the switch.

"Don't turn it on B, you don't know what it does." Nightwing warned his partner.

Meanwhile, Tim wandered around the lab. He found many anti-ghost weapons similar to theirs but many of them were broken.

"A computer." Red cheered and ran towards it. He plugged the computer into his wrist computer and began his search. It must have been a new computer because there wasn't much. Only one file labeled 'Ghosts'. As he was searching the computer for anything else, he got an audience. His brothers were standing by him and watching his progress.

"There's nothing more." Tim sighed disappointed. He really hoped for something more.

"It's okay Red, just open the one you got." Dick reassured his brother. Tim opened the file and was met with many smaller files.

"Skulker, Pariah Dark, Fright Knight, Johnny 13, what are those names?" Damian read out loud. He tore the mouse out of his brothers hand and clicked on a random one. The three brothers were met with a being similar to cyborg but he was armored and had green flaming hair.

"That file contains a list of ghosts." Dick said out loud, informing Bruce who was still looking around.

"It says that Skulker is the greatest ghost hunter in the GZ. The man writing this didn't do a very good job at descriptions." Red sighed.

"What is GZ?" Dick asked utterly confused.

"I don't know, there is no legend."

"Or they just didn't have the time to finish all of them." Damian said. He uploaded the file to his own wrist computer and came across a file on the ghost hero Danny Phantom. "Here is a 48 pages long text on the Phantom kid. The good one. "

"Father, do not open the door!" Damian warmed his father who was getting closer to the switch.

"That's why I'll stand aside." Bruce said and stood next to the portal in case something shot out of it. His sons did the same and took cover. Batman switched it on but nothing happened.

Then back up generators kicked in and an unlocking sound echoed around the room, revealing a green and swirling void.

"Don't touch it. It might be toxic." Bruce warned and took a step back. He has seen something similar before. It reminded him of those portals Dr. Fate used to travel.

"This is a po...." the man didn't even have the time to finish his sentence when a red warning light shone over their heads.

System overload

System overload

There was nothing the batfamily could do about it. The green portal blew up and the green void disappeared. A shockwave sent everyone flying to the opposite wall, instantly knocking them out.

......

"I. Am. So. Bored." Kid Flash, also known as Wally West groaned. Only about an hour passed since they arrived to this horrible and boring place.

"Stop complaining Kid mouth." Artemis snorted from her front seat. His constant rumbling was slowly making everyone (Miss M, Beast Boy, Aqualad, Impulse, Superboy, Blue Beetle and Artemis) crazy.

"What's the point of being a back up team, there's no fun in it." Bart joined the argument and soon everyone, well except Kaldur, Artemis and Miss M., were shouting at each other, discussing the point of this mission.

"Stop it." Kladur raised his voice, immediately shushing everyone. It didn't happen often that the leader lost his patience but today was an exception. A deafening silence fell upon the team, everyone being in their own world.

"I hear something." Connor told his team. He meant good but annoyed and angry Wally snapped at him. "Remember? We don't have superhearing!"

Connor decided to ignore his obnoxious comments and continued. "There's a cave, approximately one mile away and someone is inside."

"It's a near territory, we must check it out." Bart said with an evil smile. "Just in and out, bats won't know about anything."

"But it's against Batman's others." Megan tried to argue but nearly everyone was against her.

"But sis, do you really want to sit here the whole time while Batman and his team saves the day?" Gar asked his sister and sat on her lap in a dog form. She petted him gently with a small smile on her face.

"Then lets go." Wally put on his mask and stepped in the middle of the floor. The rest of the team soon joined him, finding it better to go as a whole team. They were delivered to the ground by ropes and the dark surrounded them as soon as they entered the forest.

"Mind link established. Let's move on, quickly and quietly." After few minutes, they appeared on a plain. It wasn't anything special, just some grass and a hole in the ground.

"There's the entrance." Bart squealed and ran to the entrance. He waited on his team impatiently while tapping his foot.

"Took you ages." The younger speedster said and highfived Wally. Everyone around just rolled their eyes and proceeded with their mission. Examine the cave.

The first few minutes, they walked in pure darkness. It was a miracle that nobody tripped and fell to their death. After some time, the walls of the cave started glowing lightly, illuminating their way.

"Someone is really here. I feel a presence." Megan informed and then she turned invisible.

The team was quiet while they were waiting for their team member to return with news. "There's a pod but I can't see inside."

Connor's face turned into a scowl because he didn't have the best experience with pods.

"What are we waiting for?" Connor growled at his teammates. The team just shrugged it off and followed the clone inside.

Now, the walls were glowing brighter, illuminating the whole room. It was a lab, a good one. There were advanced medical machines, test-tubes and also weapons. In the middle of the cavern, there was lying something similar to a cryogenic capsule covered in a one way mirror.

"Let's look at it." Bart said quietly, jumping up and down from excitement. He was the first one by the capsule, already searching for any buttons. There was one, a big red button screaming not to be pushed.

"Impulse, step away from that." Kaldur ordered but the younger hero simply ignored him. With his super speed, the button was pushed and there was no way back.

The glass hissed and a steam ran out of a small gap. The cover moved out of the way, revealing a man.

.......

"Danny come down, you can't be in your room the whole day." Jason shouted at his younger brother from the hall. Since the recent accident with Dan, the human side wanted to be alone. He felt like the whole world was against him, waiting for the final strike.

"I don't want to and I can!" Danny shouted back annoyed.

"You have to eat something."

"No I don't have to." Jason eventually gave up and went to mind his own business. The halfa's emotions and thoughts were bottled up and he needed to get rid of them so he took out his unfinished song.

I can't shake these midnight thoughts when I'm alone
Latching to my brain and never letting go
So I'll start making friends with the noise in my head
And all these midnight thoughts when I'm alone

Dim the lights, shut the blinds
But I'm counting the time
Am I nervous or am I insane?
Try to turn off the sound, but I can't shut it out
'Cause I'm hearing the pulse in my veins

I know it's too late (know it's too late)
As night turns to day (night turns to day)
Now there's no escaping the ghost

"Sam would like this song." Danny sighed and stoked the paper. He missed his family and his friends so much. He would do everything to get them back.

Forgive me for this shorter chapter. I shortened it because I'm writing some important entrance exams in few days and I wanted to finish it before.

Also I feel like I'm made out of pure evil 😈. 2 cliffhangers at once.

Muhahahaha!
