No way back

Another chapter! Just letting you know, my publishing schedule was every 5 days but I just can't manage it with school and training. So expect a chapter once in two or less weeks.

Thanks for understanding.

Danny stirred on the comfy couch situated in his friends house. The yesterday's dream came back to him all blurry. He remembered a man dying but he couldn't make out who because he was covered in dark shadows. Also the surroundings weren't much of a help, a normal rubble.

The halfa stretched his tense back and went to take a quick shower since he didn't have the energy yesterday. His reflection in the mirror glanced back at him, making him uncomfortable.

"Are you watching me?" Danny asked his reflection. It was a dumb question, mirrors don't usually answer.

"Yes."

"No." Those answers came simultaneously, making Danny jump slightly in the air. He stared at his own reflection for some time, but it moved with him. Nothing out of order. When he tried to talk to it again, it was silent.

"I'm going crazy." Danny mumbled and rubbed his eyes.

"You definitely are." Dan chuckled and for a split second, he appeared in the mirror next to Danny.

"Oh hello." Danny replied awkwardly. They haven't talked since the moment on the rooftop and Danny wasn't sure what to expect.

"Can you release me? I really need to stretch my limbs. Do you know how cramped it is in here?" The ghost asked causally. It felt natural to talk to his human side this way, as if they were friends or even something more, brothers.

"I guess I'll have to trust you?" The halfa said but it sounded more like a question. Should he trust Dan? Was it all real? Didn't he just play with him? No! Dan was the only one who stuck with him the whole time, he needs to give him a chance.

"I'll try but I can't control it fully. It might not succeed." Danny announced and then he focused on his task.

"Focus, focus, focus..." Danny murmured under his breath, concentrating on the other part of his mind.

"There's nothing!" He whispered yelled at his own reflection.

"You need to feel the anger." Dan advises his younger self. Why should he feel angry? How can it help him? He rather didn't question it further. Danny thought back to the argument with Dick and the fury was back in an instant. He reached out for Dan's presence in his mind and he found it. Focusing on separating the two of them, he ripped the ghost part out of his consciousness.

"Ugh... another small space." Dan growled as he looked around the small bathroom. Danny looked up at the ghost, a phantom smile creeping onto his face. It felt strangely nice to have his 'brother', errr.... Dan with him.

"There's a slightly bigger room out there." Danny pointed towards the closed bathroom doors with a smirk.

"Lead the way." Dan chuckled deeply. 'Man, I'll have to get used to that.' The halfa shuddered and opened the door. It was strangely quiet in here.

"Where is your roommate?" The ghost asked his companion and sniffed around.

"You can sense him?" The human asked confused.

"Enhanced senses. Remember?" He asked sarcastically and then stopped in his tracks. "This should be fun." Dan chuckled darkly and opened the door leading to Ryan's room.

"We shouldn't, it's not our business."

"Oh, but it's fun." The ghost fully opened the room now, revealing a bloody Ryan.

"What the hell happened to you?!" Danny ran closer to his friend to support him. He seemed to be extremely exhausted and badly hurt.

"Nothing, just few talons went after me." He shrugged and hissed in pain as he moved his shoulder.

"I don't think this is the best timing but Ryan, this is Dan. Dan, this is Ryan." The two of them stared blankly at each other before Ryan broke the tension.

"I must have lost too much blood, I see two of you. The human you and the ghost." The blonde mumbled and sat on the ground.

"You're not hallucinating, we just separated our minds." Danny explained as he grabbed a first aid kid from a shelf in Ryan's room. While they were talking, he attended the hurt boy's wounds.

"So he's free?"

"He can't get more than 30 feet away from me and also, he has limited powers. Only flight." When Ryan was stable enough to move on his own, Danny put the first aid kit back to its place, so the blonde could find it later in his career.

"Thanks for helping me. If I were at the mountain, I would have to do it all alone."

"That's a bit harsh, isn't it?" Danny asked with a raised eyebrow. He knew what assassins did, he knew that had to go through an intense training but they didn't get help? Even if they were at the verge of dying?

Ryan caught his friends look and said, "It's a way we learn, you don't always have someone with you. You have to be able to take care of yourself."

"Did he also lose the ability to speak?" Ryan asked jokingly, pointing towards the ghost, who was silently observing the situation.

"No, if you have to know." Dan replied coldly, crossing his muscular arms. "And only for your information, I want to kill you." He growled and glared at the wounded boy.

"I could take you out even in my sleep." Ryan spat back angryly.

"I would like to see you try." The ghost taunted and stood closer to the smaller boy, Looking down at him and letting him know who is the bigger and stronger one. (I totally don't do that with my friends)

"Guys, no need to fight over this." Danny said and tried to separate the killer duo. In the past few seconds, both of them gathered some weapons, each being a killing machine in the hands of Dan and Ryan.

"When I get my powers..." Dan growled under his breath and turned to leave. "I'll show him." Dan wasn't the one to back out of a fight, never, but this time, it was different. He didn't have even the half of his powers. What was really bad, was that without his powers, he was just a pile of muscle, no extra fighting abilities. That's also the main reason why he wants to join the league. To teach him how to be skilled in fighting and then, he has some plans...

Dan found himself in a modern living room, nothing too fancy but nice. He plopped down on a couch and quickly jumped up when something pricked his back. The ghost growled angrily as he lifted a katana into the air. He grabbed the sword at both of the ends and went to break it when a shout stopped him.

"No! It's a gift!" Danny shouted and ripped the weapon out of his grasp. "Take revenge on anything but please, let this sword be." The halfa pleaded as he held the katana close to his chest.

"Fine." Dan replied and with a swift movement of his fist, the coffee table broke in half.

"I didn't mean in like that!" Danny screeched and rushed towards the broken piece of furniture. "Oh god, Ryan's going to kill me for this." The teens distressed mumbling caught Ryan's attention, bringing him to the living area.

"I can explain..." The human side started, his head hung in shame. "I accidentally broke it."

"And I thought that you were the harmless one." Ryan laughed as he looked at his friend and then at the ghost.

"Wait, you aren't mad?" The halfa asked confused. "I just broke an expensive looking table and you are laughing. Isn't this just a game?"

"Really, it's ok. I didn't like the table very much so in reality, you solved a problem for me."

"Oh, ok." Was all Danny could get out of his mouth.

"I'll take care of the trash, meanwhile, you can head to the kitchen, there's something to eat if you two want." Ryan offered and soon, he was out with the broken table.

"You didn't have to cover me, I can take care of myself." Dan said and started heading towards the kitchen. "I don't know about you, but I'm starving."

"Isn't it a bit rude to start breakfast without your host?" Danny asked his counterpart. "We should wait for Ryan."

"I definitely heard him say 'you can go to the kitchen and eat if you want', and I want to eat." Dan growled and without waisting more time, the ghost was gone.

"You have some respect." Danny growled to himself as he shuffled away to the kitchen to make sure the ghost won't raid the room. They found few sandwiches in the fridge. At first, Danny was a bit unsure about taking them because they might have been Ryan's but then, him stomach changed his mind.

At the same time as Danny was half through his sandwich, the ghost already ate two and was reaching for his third one and the last one.

"I see you liked the food." Ryan stood smirking in the doorway. "Oh, and by the way, I contacted the Grand Master, we have a permission to come."

"I... um..." Danny was at loss of words. He was seriously starting to doubt his decision. "How do we even get there?" Danny asked, covering his indecisiveness.

"Oh, it's simple. We'll go to Tibetan Himalayas, more exactly Hindu Kush and then we climb it." The assassin said energized.

"Aren't you injured?" Danny asked, concerned for his best friends.

"I will be fine, don't worry." He reassured.

"I can't do that." Danny cried at Dan. He was surprised that their mind link still worked even thought they were separated.

"It's part of my plan. You either go with me or... I don't know, I will come up with something else." The ghost replied and shot his tiny human a side glance.

"I don't have a choice, do I." The halfa sighed and closed his eyes. "But, under one condition. We either go separated and YOU take the bag, or we go it the ghost form, both in control."

"Ugh fine, the second one." Dan said out loud and startled the blond a little.

"I think that means yes?" He asked and looked at his visitors.

"Yes, we are going." Danny sighed, knowing he would soon regret his decision. For gods sake, he never killed anyone when HE was in control. He didn't even know if he had the guts to do so.

"Grab your things, we're going." Ryan announced and disappeared in his room once again. Danny headed into the living room with Dan following and grabbed his bag.

"I promise I'll let you out, but now, we can't raise suspicions." Dan understood and soon, there was only one person standing it the room. The human met his friend again in the hallway, dressing up for the freezing weather in the mountains. The black haired teen just shrugged and waited for his friend. Since the portal accident, his body was resistant to extreme cold, making the mountains a perfect place to live.

Outside of Ryan's house, was waiting a pitch black helicopter. "Change of plans, he'll take us to the temple." The blond said and motioned Danny to get in.

"Your colleague?" The halfa asked from the backseat, pointing to the driver seat.

"You could call him that." Ryan answered and those were the last words anyone heard during the flight. Danny was too nervous and anxious he couldn't think straight, his mind wandering into some dark and scary places.

"You'll have to disembark the helicopter now, I can't get through the storm." The pilot announced and soon, the cockpit shook when the machine touched the solid ground again.

"Thanks for the ride." Ryan shouted into the wind and waved at the driver before he took off again.

"It's so high." Danny grumbled as he looked up. at the mountain in front of him. "I'm giving up. I'm not climbing up there."

Ryan just chuckled and pushed his friend into walking. When they were far enough, Danny changed into his ghost form, just as he promised. It was a long and tiring hike but after few restless hours, they made it to the top. Both of them were panting heavily, due to the extreme conditions they were forced to endure.

As soon as the duo entered the ancient temple, Ryan's attitude changed. He wasn't the easygoing teenager, now, he was a killing machine ready for orders. These days, Danny found more comfortable to be separated with Dan, so they did so. The passing groups of assassins were secretly staring at him, wondering why there was another child.

"My name is Ubu and I'm here to bring you to the Grand Master." A talk and bulky man appeared in front of the trio out of nowhere. Ryan bowed, Dan growled and Danny jumped up from surprise.

Ubu didn't wait for an answer and briskly headed down the hall. They stopped at the end of the hallway in front of a huge set of carved wooden door. Two guards opened the door for them.

Danny was greeted by a big room with a fireplace and a lot of books and weapons. Everyone in the room bowed in front of an older man except the two guests. Danny felt awkward just standing there so he bowed too.

It seemed as if the man was waiting only for this and then he spoke. "Greetings, my name is Ra's al Ghul."
