A letter

Ughh... this chapter took so long to write and so much of my will. This isn't an exclusive chapter but I hope you like it.

Few more weeks has passed since the visit to the Gotham academy principal. Nothing has changed. The Waynes still kept their family secret a secret, not bothering to share. It bothered Danny but he couldn't be very mad at them. After all, he was doing the same thing. School remained a hell for Danny. Dan bothered him every time during lessons, breaks, tests, lunches, at home.... nearly everywhere. Something must have happened to the big ghost, because he hasn't said a single word this whole week. The halfa caught himself thinking that it was sometimes awfully quiet without him. Yes, he was a demonic pain in his ass but he was also a part of his family. Kind of.

The friendship between Ryan and Danny grew stronger with every day. Ryan paid weekly visits to the manor and he become kid of close with Danny's brothers. His older brothers weren't at home very often, only in the evening due to their school and work. Their youngest sibling Damian, he still glared at Ryan as if something wasn't right with him.

Other boring and awful day at school. During the last week, his grades rose a little, but only a little. One of the teachers caught him cheating. Danny had the luck that the teacher really liked him and took pity on him. She talked to Danny after the class for a while to set things right. The only bad thing was that he wasn't allowed to sit next to Ryan anymore. The halfa was so grateful that she didn't report him to the principal because he didn't need another problem with Bruce.

Today was the decisive day. The day when the students of the Gotham academy were supposed to take the SAT test. They have been preparing for weeks now, getting ready for this day. Danny felt sick from the early morning because of his anxiety. His whole family tried to calm him down but with no luck. A sixth sense was telling him that Dan was going appear today and he didn't like it. He's been quiet the whole week so why not wait one more day?

The car ride was awfully quiet, with Danny being drowned in his math and English notes. Tim repeated him that he'll do well, like a broken record.

"Danny, just calm down. This isn't life or death situation." Tim eyed him worriedly from the next seat.

"And what if it is?" Danny replied angrily without raising his head. As soon as the car stopped, the halfa practically ran to his classroom, trying to revise as much as possible before the lesson starts. Ryan was sitting by himself, just staring out of the window. He and Tim were very similar in the academic way. Both of them knew everything without spending long nights memorizing things.

Around 7:55, every student was already gathered in their home room, waiting for the teacher to arrive. Ms. Thorn opened the doorway exactly at 8:00, her hands full of papers.

"Good morning students, I believe you are prepared for today's big test." The teacher greeted her students. The students just grunted in reply. Ms. Thorn handed out the answer sheets first and instructed her students in how to fill it out correctly. With every passing second, Danny's anxiety lever rose. When he thought about it, he wasn't completely sure of the source of his discomfort. Was it the fact that he was writing this big test or Dan may show up.

Danny was shocked when his teacher put a 50 paged pile on his desk. "At least I have 3 hours to complete this." There was no response, what could be considered as a good sign.

"Three hours countdown starts now." The teacher announced and gave her students thumbs up. The halfa opened the first page and dug into the reading. The first part consisted of reading and text linked questions. It surprised Danny on how easy this part of the test was. Without Dan's constant complaining it went smoothly. The only thing he really had to do was to read the texts properly and answer to few text related questions.

The second part had reading in it too, but this time, you had to consider how the passage might be edited to correct the errors in sentence structure, usage, or punctuation. Danny wasn't sure with some parts but overall, he was going great. He nearly laughed out loud when he thought back to the time before he got his test. He was overthinking the whole thing.

Finally, the worst part was at deck. The math part without the calculator. The first few questions were easy considering the ones that followed. After the long period of successfully filled out questions, it was bound to go downhill. Danny got into a situation where he was unable to solve 7 questions in a row.

"I'm stupid, stupid, stupid." Danny banged his head against his table. He needed to solve about 9 more questions in a time limit. In 4 minutes.

"You certainly are." Dan laughed evilly. 'Finally, the genius arrived.' Danny held back his sarcastic remark. He had a thir of his test ahead of him, he didn't need any distractions.

"Could you please be quiet until the end of this test." Danny emphasized the word 'quiet' to make sure that Dan got the memo.

"That's not how you treat a friend who wants to help."

"You want to help?" Danny asked in disbelief. He certainly didn't expect Dan to be helpful at all.

"The answer to 11 is D." The ghost said calmly.

"Why should I believe you." Danny snarled, glaring at his paper, it was a habit for him.

"You can't be sure but I'm your only source of information now. Or you want to argue some more and leave out 9 questions?" The human side caught his angered tone. There really wasn't much to do now when he had only two minutes left, so he wrote down Dan's answer.

"Is there any chance of you knowing the other 8 answers?" Danny asked carefully.

"12 is D, 13 is D, 14 is A, 15 is D, 16 is 2, 17 is 1600, 18 is 7, 19 is 0,8 and 20 is 100." Dan was speaking while Danny tried to write the answers down as quickly as possible.

"Umm, thanks Dan. I guess I couldn't have done it without your help." The halfa thanked his ghost side. He still couldn't be 100% sure if those answers were right but he didn't have any other option but to fill it out as Dan said.

Here we are, the last part of the test. Math with calculator. As previously, Danny was able to answer only about 13 questions out of 20. He wasn't really happy about his math skills. What surprised him the most, was the fact that the evil Dan, who was trying to make a hell out of his life only few days ago, was now helping him on a test. If someone told him that Dan would help him fill out his test, he would laugh right into the face of the person. Even if it was the United States president.

"How do you know all those answers?" Danny pressed, being genuinely interested. You don't see a person or a ghost with super fast math calculations every day.

"I just know." Dan said, being somewhat happy. He has done a good thing and he was feeling happy. What a messed up world.

"I really appreciate your help." The halfa blurted out. He still wasn't sure of Dan's true intentions but he deserved a small gratitude at least from someone.

"Danny, Danny!" Someone shouted in his face. The mentioned boy closed and opened his eyes, trying to focus on present. He was so deep in his thoughts that he didn't even notice when the testing ended.

"Are you coming or not." Ryan sighed, being aware of Danny's space out. The halfa stood up from his seat, handed in his test and followed his best friend.

"What did you get for question 17, part three? The question with the lake." Ryan asked. This was the time of truth. Was Dan really helping him or was he just pulling out another prank on him.

"I got 1600. You?"

"Same." The teen cheered and they highfived. It was a really nice knowing that Dan wasn't a fully rotten and evil person, somewhere deep inside of him, a small Danny was still hiding.

"I think my brain did a really good job today." Danny appreciated his own work and Dan's help at once. It sounded weird, calling Dan his brain.

"I worked as normally." Ryan shrugged and it was soon followed by laughter.

"Of course you did."

————————

"How was your test day young masters?" The elderly butler asked politely as the Wayne brothers entered the limousine. It was a nice feeling to have the test behind. No longer having stressful days and sleepless nights.

"They really underrated me. They could do much better." Damian spoke but it was visible that he was pleased with his results.

"It was one of the easiest tests." Tim chuckled.

"Of course master Timothy" Alfred replied, his eyes never leaving the road. "And what about you master Daniel? How was your test day?"

"I really didn't expect to go through those questions so easily." Danny replied happily.

"I told you you didn't have to worry." Tim punches his twin playfully. The two of them were sharing their test answers the whole car ride and finally got to the end a while before arriving to the manor.

Everyone got out of the car, happy to be home. "I'll be in the gym." Damian announced and headed for his destination.

"Can I come too?" Danny asked his younger brother, wanting to spend some time with him.

"If you can handle it." The cocky attitude was always there.

"I'll go change and meet you there." The halfa announced and headed for his bedroom to change. He took out his long black track shorts and simple black T-shirt. The gym was down the hall on the bottom floor. He passed a lot of empty rooms on his way, until he got to the right one.

Damian was already there, finishing his warm up run on the treadmill. Danny gave him a small smile but he got a frown in return. The halfa used the same treadmill to warm up before he started his workout.

"Weight lifting or something else." Danny asked the ghost. He wasn't really sure why he did it, it just felt natural, like talking to a friend. Dan didn't bother to reply so Danny took his silence as yes. The one hand barbells looked good so he took the biggest one for fun. Surprisingly, the 50 lbs barbell felt like only few pounds.

"Guess I share your strength." Danny told himself. He put the training gear down and walked towards the two hands barbell. The halfa wanted some real work out but with his younger brother around, he had to keep his powers a secret. Danny put on 100 lbs of weight on stick and lied under it. 3 reps of 20 bench press seemed enough so he put it alway. His muscles didn't feel tired, in fact, he could go on for hours like this. The bad thing was that he had to keep his cover.

Damian didn't pay any attention to his brother. The boy was training some simple katana moves on a dummy. Being raised by the league of shadows, Danny didn't expect anything else. The wall was decorated with various swords for Damian to train with. Maybe not as much as in the batcave, but enough to kill someone.

"You can borrow one if you want." Damian offered. He walked closer to Danny and examined his collection.

"Are all of those yours?" Danny asked him interestedly. He was never a gun person Like Jason, he preferred blades but when you have energized rays, you don't have the opportunity to use a sword very often.

"No, some of them are father's." Damian explained and tossed one of his katanas to Danny. He caught it with ease. The blade was about the right size and it was well balanced.

"You have a good grip." The preteen commented, looking at Danny's hand.

————I'm lazy, that's why————

After their training, Danny got the basic knowledge of swordsmanship. Damian was a great teacher despite their brotherly hatred and the tension melded away during their session.

The halfa took a quick shower before he headed for the dinner. Unfortunately, Jason and Dick couldn't make in on time for dinner because they were stuck at their work and school. The dinning room was a whole lot quieter without the two oldest. The only conversation that lasted more than just few seconds was about todays testing.

Alfred disappeared in the middle of the dinner. The elderly man returned soon with few letters in his hands. Four of them went to Bruce but one remained in Alfreds hands. The butler raised an eyebrow and handed Danny an envelope. It was neatly closed but nothing told him who wrote it.

You should open it when you're alone. Something told him that the voice in his head was right. After all, he could always say that it was impolite to disturb a family dinner. Danny wasn't in rush to open his letter so he put it on the table.

After dinner, Danny headed to his room. It wasn't time to go to sleep yet so he decided to open his envelope. An advertisement. Why would people send an advertisement to him? What caught his eye was a piece of tearing paper. As a kid, he loved those things. He tore it off and was met with few letters and numbers 'NASA, 264'
