Episode 118 - You do the Maths

The conversation between Rohan and Siyali continues,

Ro - Now my turn! Why? You confessed to Sid of liking him and then now suddenly you want him away? Why?

Si - For a person who doesn't seem to care about anything that's happening, tum kuch zyada hi curious nahi ho?

An annoyed Siyali asked Rohan who didn't seem to care about what she thought,

Si (annoyed) - I don't like him anymore okay.

Ro - That doesn't sound like the truth.

Si (annoyed) - Jhoot lag raha hai? Lie detection karwa lo. Can't a girl just change her mind? My turn.

Rohan was still not convinced with the answer but still decided to go on,

Si (awkwardly) - Tumney kaha ki woh dhono best friends tey. Right? Buss friends hi tey kya? I mean school mein, college mein, kabhi date kiya hoga. (Shakes her head thinking of the thought) Were they ever romantically involved?

Ro - Seriously?

Rohan asked with a funny and surprised look on his face,

Ro (funny) - How am I supposed to know all this? Mainey time travel karkey sab kuch live mein dekha hai kya ki mujhe itney detail main sab maaloom hota hai? And tumharey paas koi serious waala sawaal nahi hai kya? Why do you even care if they were romantically involved or not. Does that even mat......

And suddenly Rohan started making wierd expressions which was making Siyali uncomfortable,

Si - What?

Ro - Wait a minute. (Laughs) That's it isn't it?

Siyali stared at Rohan with the corner of her eyes wondering what he was going on in his head that he looked so excited,

Ro - You thought Prathick Rajput was your father? That explains your usage of the word "disguisting". Tumhe laga ki Sid tumhara half brother hai? Oh my God!

Rohan started laughing while Siyali just sat awestruck with her mouth open.

Si (shocked, fast) - Seriously? Rohan!! How do you come up with the whole story along with the conclusion by just listening to the starting?

Ro (teasing) - So that is the answer to my second Question? Actually tum kaafi late ho, mere dimaag mein yeh doubt pichley saal hi aagaya tha. I thought you were cousins or something and that's why Sid was staying away from you last semester.

Siyali looked annoyed and didn't answer to that. Rohan stopped laughing and decided to give the answer to her Question 2,

Ro - As far as your question is concerned, Romantically involved tey ya nahi, yeh nahi patha, but I can assure you that he is not your..... I mean Siyali's father.

Si - How?

Ro - Because, Shivani Rajput was not in India for a period of 7 years approx. It was in this 7 year period that she got married, settled and had a kid abroad. And in those 7 years, Prathick Rajput was in India. You do to biology.

Siyali rolled her eyes thinking but still there were possiblilities,

Si (embarrassed) - How can you be sure? May be he went abroad.

Ro - What a crooked thought!

Si (defending herself) - Well! Tumney hi toh kaha, that you didn't see everything live. Then how can you be sure. Tumney unka passport deyka hai kya?

Ro (immitating her) - Passport nahi deyka hai, Articles deyka hai.

Few minutes later, Rohan brings up a register book which had newspaper cuttings on it.

Ro - It's like a scrap book our school's been maintaining for years. Unkey baarey mein kahin bhi kuch bhi chapey, they cut it out and maintain a record. It's wierd but they still do it.

Si - Woh library ke last section ka woh purana books?

Ro - Yes!

Rohan noded as he found the page on which an article about Prathick Rajput was pasted. The article read out "Rajput heir makes father proud"

Ro - See that? In that 7 year period, Prathick uncle started his own business. Rajput's bohat bada group tha and yet the soul heir of the group decided to start his own business instead of just inheriting the wealth. So iskey wajah se, media ki attention unpe thi. And he didn't let that opportunity go away. Just in 7 years, he brought his business to such a level that no one imagined, without any family help and so he obviously he got super famous. He was also known for his commitment. 2001 mein unhe koi award mila tha and articles chapi thi telling that it was said that he's never taken off for a single day. And that he went to office (stressing on the fact) every single day for the entire 7 years.

Siyali was finally accepting the facts stated by Rohan as he seemed to have done some research with solid proof,

Si - So, there's no way Prathick is Siyali's dad.

Ro (sarcastic) - Not unless he took a 15 hr flight to and 15 hr flight fro and still managed to be in India every hour. He seems to have perfect alibi for 7 years.

Si (frustrated) - Yeh tum 7 years 7 years kyun kar rahe ho? It's not like it's the end of the world.

Siyali was frustrated hearing the number 7 so many times it was giving her a headache,

Ro - It was for them.

Rohan said in a low and serious voice showing some sympathy. Siyali looked a little concerned,

Si - Matlab?

Ro (sensitive) - At the end of those 7 years, they died.. in a car accident. The article here just say "childhood friend". I guessed that was your mom. Uss time mein itna internet access nahi tha, so google search didn't do much help.

Siyali slowly turns the pages of the old register and finds an article about Prathick's death. She reads the article that states that an unfortunate accident had occurred to Prathick and his childhood friend who had come to India after 7 years along with her kid to celebrate by his side for winning the award.

Siyali's POV "I found her and lost her in seconds!?"

Si (sorrowful) - Uskey baad kya hua?

Ro - I have no idea.

Si (sorrowful) - You always have some idea.

Ro - Well I'm guessing just like how they took in Shivani, the Rajputs took in Siyali too.

Siyali noded her head slowly while Rohan looked at her pitifully feeling sorry for her. Siyali closed the old binder,

Si - Inn saarey books ko waapas rakney chahiye.

Ro - I'll help.

As Siyali and Rohan kepts the year books and the binders back from where they took, Siyali just thought and thought about her mother. She couldn't cry as she felt like she was out of tears. In just this week, she had cried more than ever.

Si (sounding weak) - Rohan?

Siyali called out from behind the year book shelf. Rohan walked to her,

Si - Mujhe ek baath samaj mein nahi aaraha hai. If a mother dies, doesn't custody still remain with the other parent. Third party ko kaisa jaata hai.

Ro - I had the same doubt! Ajeeb baath hai but there's no records of Siyali's dad. Koi unka naam tak nahi jaantey hai.

Siyali looked straight into the opposite book shelf with stern eyes. Something was wrong, but what was it?
