Seeing Double- Johnny Depp

A/N: Ya know the scene in On Stranger Tides where Angelica is dressed like Jack Sparrow? So like that, but a little different ;)

I finished putting the finishing touches on my Ren Faire costume. I was going as Johnny Depp's character Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

"You ready, Ash?" my roommate, Anna, called from downstairs.

"Yeah, just finished," I said, putting my makeup back into my bathroom drawer. I walked back through my bedroom and down the stairs into our shared living area.

Anna stood at the kitchen counter, dressed like a fairy. Her costume was intricate and all handmade by herself, complete with a pouch made out of dyed green leather in the shape of leaves. Her long golden blonde hair was in intricate twists and braids with fake flowers and butterfly clips woven throughout.

"Oh, you look amazing!" She said, looking up from her phone at me.

"As do you, love," I said in my best Jack Sparrow impression.

"Let's get going then, good thing it's a short walk." She slipped her phone into her leather pouch and adjusted her pastel pink dress before opening the door.

Locking the door behind us, we walked down the street towards the fairgrounds where the Ren Faire was being held. Thankfully it wasn't that far of a walk, and the weather was cool which was especially helpful considering we were both wearing multiple layers for our costumes.

We got to the fairgrounds and I put on my best drunken stumble, trying my best to match the patterns in which Jack Sparrow would actually walk. We walked around, meeting all kinds of new people and taking photos with some. There were all kinds of things to see- people in costume, people selling goods, some people walking around dressed normally, and of course plenty of yummy food.

After a couple of hours, the sun was setting and we had gotten plenty to eat, as well as plenty of little souvenirs from the vendors and gifts from some of the people we met. Anna and I were walking away from watching the whip performer when I happened to notice someone else dressed like Jack Sparrow.

"Anna, look! Someone else came as Jack," I said, motioning my head in their direction.

"Oh my gosh! That's so cool, let's go talk to them, Ash!" Anna replied, practically squealing with enthusiasm. My little introvert self was sometimes very happy to have such an extroverted friend. Now was one of those times.

As we were walking towards the other Jack Sparrow, they seemed to notice us as well. They started doing the iconic Jack Sparrow run towards me, so I did the same, leaving Anna to trot behind me. As this happened, I could feel nearby people watching us, and even noticed that a couple of them took their phones out to record this moment.

The other Jack Sparrow and I reached each other, standing right in front of each other. At this point, a small group of people gathered around us.

"Wow! Your costume looks incredible!" I said, admiring all of the details of it. Their costume could have easily passed as the real thing. I thought my costume looked pretty good, but there were some minor details missing, and I of course didn't have the gold on my teeth as this Jack Sparrow did.

"Yours is pretty good too. I couldn't tell you were a lady," they spoke, their voice deep and obviously manly. They sounded so much like Johnny Depp did as the character, but I summed it up to endless hours of practice, seeing as some people can be so dedicated to Ren Faire and their characters.

"Can I take a picture of you two?" Anna asked.

"Of course, love," the other Jack said.

We stood together for the picture Anna took, and then other people were coming up and asked to take pictures of the two of us together as well. We stood there, doing various poses for everyone, as they thought that seeing two Jack Sparrows was amusing.

"Can I tell you a secret?" The other Jack Sparrow said. They spoke quietly, which wasn't completely necessary as there were so many people around us who were talking and buzzing with excitement.

"Sure," I replied, as we had posed with our fake swords touching.

"I am Jack Sparrow," they said, starting to do a pretend sword fight. I played along while people continued taking photos and videos, all while laughing or remarking about how cool this was.

Suddenly, it clicked what they had told me. My eyes widened as I made the realisation.

"Savvy?" They said.

"Savvy," I replied.

Slowly the crowd faded, and it was just me, the other Jack Sparrow, and Anna.

"Prove it," I said, stepping closer to the other Jack.

"Prove what?" Anna asked, clearly confused.

"Do you two live close by?" They asked.

"Yes, would you rather go there then?" I said.

"(Y/N), we do not take strangers to our houses!" Anna yelled.

"No, Anna, I think it's fine. Just wait," I said.

The three of us walked back to the house Anna and I shared, more or less in silence.  Anna kept begging for me to explain, even sending our location and texting another friend of hers what was going on in case we ended up in a true crime documentary.

We reached the house, and Anna turned to look back at me and the other Jack.

"God, you two. This better end well and not with us murdered or something. And looking at the both of you is weird at this point, it's like I'm seeing double," she said, turning back to the door and unlocking it with her keys. The other Jack and I laughed.

We got inside with Anna still texting live updates to one of her friends.

I walked over to the dining table, slowly taking off bits and pieces of my costume.

"So, are you going to tell her?" I asked, setting my hat down.

"So, I am Jack Sparrow," they said again, facing Anna.

"Well, clearly. You're dressed like him. (Y/N) is also Jack Sparrow," she replied, taking her fairy wings off and undoing some of the smaller pieces of her costume as well.

"No, Anna," I sighed, "He is THEE Jack Sparrow."

It took her a few seconds to process, and then her eyes widened.

"Prove it," She said. I laughed.

"Anna, that is why he's here!"

The other Jack Sparrow took off his costume top, revealing a tank top underneath. Across his arms were all of the famous tattoos of the one and only Johnny Depp. Anna looked at him skeptically.

"There's no way!"  She said. I was in awe myself, as I wasn't one hundred per cent sure this person was who they said they were at the Faire.

"If you still don't believe me, look," he said, raising his right hand and pointing out the tip of his middle finger.

"Yeah, that checks out. I'm so sorry she did that to you," Anna said, referencing the time Johnny Depp's ex had thrown a bottle at him and severed the tip of his finger.

"Now do you believe me?" Johnny said.

"Yes, but now I have so many more questions," Anna continued, "First of all, what are you doing here? And at a Ren Faire?"

"Well, sometimes I like to dress up as Jack Sparrow and go to Faires and things, where people think I am just another person in costume and it's not about my celebrity status or trying to get autographs or anything else. People don't recognise me as me, but they love the character so it works," He explained.

Meanwhile, I sat there, star-struck. My favourite actor was sitting there, in the costume of my favourite character he played.

"Ash? Ash? Hello?" Anna's voice broke through my daydreams.

"Hmm?" I said, looking up at her.

"You good space cadet? Johnny was saying how good your costume was," she continued.

"Yes, it's really well done, love. Who made it?" Johnny asked.

"Oh, actually, I did," I replied,  taking off more of the bits and pieces that are part of the costume and putting them in a pile on the table.

"Really? You should work in makeup and effects."

"You think so? I'm an artist now, I never thought about makeup or special effects," I said, going into the bathroom and wiping the makeup off my face and changing into the sweats I had left in there earlier. I could hear Anna and Johnny talking. I threw my hair in a ponytail and silently squealed about Johnny Depp being in my living room.

"Ah, there you are. Unfortunately, I must go. Would it be alright to ask you for your number?" Johnny said once I came back into the living room.

"Me? Johnny, I'm afraid I'm too young for you," I said, jokingly. But also not jokingly, I was only 25, quite a bit younger than his 59 years.

"Love, age is just a number," he said, holding out his phone. I laughed slightly and put my phone number in.

"Thank you. And it was a pleasure meeting both of you," he said getting up and going to the door. "And this shall be known as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow," he joked, before opening the door and leaving.

I stood in the living room and looked at Anna.

"Did that really just happen? Like all of today?" I asked.

"Yeah, Ash, it really did," Anna said.
