Be My Wendy- Robbie Kay (Once Upon A Time)

The final bell rung, snapping me out of my thoughts. I quickly gathered my belongings, shoving my binder and pencil bag into my backpack, and raced out of the classroom and to my locker, which was only right down the hall. My hands fumbled with the lock as I was trying to enter my combination.

Finally I got it and swung my locker open "Ow!" Exclaimed a male's voice from next to me. I grabbed my locker door and peered around it, and was met with the green eyes of my best friend- Robbie Kay.

"Oh shit Robbie sorry!" I apologized as I was shoving my math textbook into my locker and then closing it.

"Oh it's okay love. You ready for theatre?" He inquired.

I locked my locker and smiled, saying "Yes! I can't believe our next play is going to be Peter Pan!"

Robbie chuckled and stuck his elbow out for me, and says jokingly, "Well, shall we?"

I giggled and grabbed his elbow with my hand and we walked together to the theatre hall.

I've known Robbie since we were born, as our parents were best friends. So, naturally, Robbie and I were best friends as well. We were both part of the Theatre Club, meaning we were always auditioned first for parts, and if our coach and play supervisor, Mrs. Richardson approved, then we got the parts. Robbie and I had done acting since we were younger, putting on shows in our living rooms for our families. Then we moved on to do plays with our Theatre and Drama classes. There's only been about 4 plays that Robbie or I haven't been in or at least helped out with. We've each missed only two due to illness or family related issues since middle school.

But now we're high school seniors, and Peter Pan was going to be our final play. I was so excited, that I nearly squealed in class once Mrs. Richardson announced it. Robbie smiled and looked at me as we walked into the theatre hall and I let go of his arm. I know it's cliché to fall for your best friend, but I had fallen for Robbie in like 7th grade. I dreamed of being his girlfriend and having cute little romantic dates and all of that. But I couldn't tell if his sweet little gestures were because we were just best friends, or if he really did have feelings for me too.

"(Y/n), I want you to try out for Wendy, and Robbie, you of course need to try out for Peter Pan. Now, here's the scripts. Get in pairs and start rehearsing," Mrs. Richardson had said to us. We nodded as she had released us to get into pairs.

"(Y/n)! You get to try out for Wendy! And I get to try for Peter!! We might get to have lead parts together for the last time!" Robbie said enthusiastically. I smiled and started looking over the script, we even had to do the part when Wendy tries to kiss Peter o in the play. I sighed, how can I fake a kiss to Robbie? I would love to really kiss him, I don't think I'd be able to fake it.

We went over the script, Robbie and I rehearsing the scene where Peter Pan meets Wendy for the first time, as we thought that would be the part we used for our auditions. After 30 minutes or so of this, Mrs. Richardson clapped, getting everyone's attention.

"Okay class! Have a good weekend, and try outs are tomorrow at 2:30. (Y/n) and Robbie! You better be there!" Mrs. Richardson announced as the bell rang. We were packing up and started heading towards the parking lot.

"(Y/n)! Are you excited to try out?" Robbie asked me.

"Of course I am, dummy! Are you going to come home with me?" I asked, grabbing my car keys out of my backpack. Robbie looked over at me, giving me a "duh!" look.

We walked to my car, and I got in the driver's seat. Robbie had his license, and he had a car. He got his first car sooner than I did, but he crashed it and his parents couldn't afford a new one just yet. So usually I gave him rides home, since he lived right next door, unless his mom needed to get him or he had something else to do.

He grabbed the aux chord and started blaring Latch by Disclosure, filling my older Land Rover with loud music and the sound of us singing along. The song stopped and I didn't notice so I kept singing. Robbie's phone was ringing and he unplugged it to answer it.

"Yeah? Okay, mum. I know. I'll be home later tonight then. Alright. Love you too," He said to his mum through the phone. I pulled into the driveway and parked the car, looking over at him.

"She's out with her brother. She also told me to say hi for her," He said to me, grabbing his bag and getting out of my van. I laughed, and said "Well hello to your mom. I hopped out of the car and opened the back door, grabbing my stuff as well.

I opened the door to my house and was greeted by my mother hugging me. She then spotted Robbie. "Oh hello Robbie! How are you doing today? How's your mom?" She asked him.

"I'm good, excited for our final play. And mom is good too, she's visiting her brother today so here I am!" He said, flashing her a big grin. He gave her a hug and we walked up to my room.

Robbie took his shoes off and sat on my bed, just in time for my dog to come bounding up the steps and jump right up there with him, licking all over his hands and clothes.

"Shall we practice then?" Robbie asked, reaching into his bag and pulling out his script.

"Might as well, auditions are just tomorrow," I said, pulling my script out as well.

We spent hours practicing together until my mom came upstairs announcing that dinner, homemade burgers, was ready.

We had ate in almost complete silence, just small talk between Robbie and my mom. And of course, we had told her about Peter Pan and the auditions tomorrow.

We finished eating and my little brother, Jake, Robbie, and I sat on the couch to watch movies. We had watched two and a half movies when Robbie started falling asleep on me. I giggled and let him sleep until the end of the third movie. I then woke him and said, "Robbie, come on. You need to go home. You're falling asleep and auditions are tomorrow. Come on, Robbie."

He woke up and I walked him home. I got back to my house and shut the door, locking it behind me. I stood with my back against the door for a moment, taking in a deep breath and slowly letting it out. My mom came up to me with a smirk.

"You like him, don't you?" She asks, motioning me to follow her to the kitchen.

I sat on the counter with a sigh. "Yeah I have for a while, mom. But there's nothing that I can do. He probably doesn't like me. He's got girls all over him, and he seems to enjoy it," I replied as my mom handed me a bowl of ice cream.

I looked down at the ice cream, it was my favourite flavour- chocolate chip cookie dough. "Maybe that will change." She said optimistically, and then winked at me like she knew something I didn't. I sighed, putting my now empty bowl in the sink and going upstairs to bed, my dog trailing behind me.

I woke up to someone banging on my door. I groaned and rolled over, not wanting to get up. My door swung open and the person started jumping on my bed, shouting, "(Y/n)! Get up! It's noon! Auditions are in two and a half hours!!"

I recognized the voice as Robbie's and jumped up, causing him to fall off the bed with a thud. I looked down at him and laughed. Pulling the covers back, I got up and went into my bathroom where I already had the clothes I wanted to wear- jean shorts and a floral patterned blouse.

I took a nice shower, got dressed, applied a small amount of makeup, and walked back into my room. I tossed my pajamas in the hamper and grabbed my script, phone, and car keys.

I looked at Robbie who was sitting on my couch on his phone. Time?" I asked.

He looked up at me and smiled "1:30. Finally ready princess?" He laughed as if he were joking, but I longed for those words to be serious ones.

"Ha ha, yes. Let's go," I stated and grabbed my keys and purse. We walked downstairs and said goodbye to my mom, who wished us luck.

We got to our school around 30 minutes later and made our way to the theatre hall. Walking in, we saw Mrs. Richardson sitting in the front row, a small table in front of her with our sign up sheets. We walked up, signed our names to show that we were here today, and sat at the edge of the stage. I looked to the left side of the stage where Mrs. Richardson had a small buffet table set up, as she makes everyone who tried out stay until the auditions are finished.

We were early and the first ones there, but Mrs. Richardson wanted us to try out last. So Robbie pulled the deck of cards out of my purse and we played as the theatre filled with the other students who were auditioning.

"Well it appears that everyone is here! Welcome! Please help yourself to the little buffet, as there are quite a few of you this time. Now, Sarah, you get on the stage dear. Who are you auditioning for?" Mrs. Richardson said, her loud voice echoing through the theatre. She didn't even need a mic. Robbie and I gathered the cards and hopped off the stage, and made our way to the buffet table where we helped ourselves to mixed fruits, and a charcuterie assortment.

Once we sat down, Sarah began her audition for Tinkerbell, and Mrs. Richardson made a remark that she would fit the part perfectly, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, and excellent acting. So she got the part and we sat there waiting for our turn.

"(Y/n) and Robbie your turn!" Mrs. Richardson finally announced, after what felt like hours. We walked up to the stage and took center stage, looking at her for more direction.

"I want you to do the scene where Wendy tries to kiss Peter," She instructed. I looked at Robbie, this is not what we had practiced.

"Mrs. Richardson, could we do the part where Wendy and Peter first met?" I asked hopefully.

"No, no. I think you guys have amazing chemistry, and besides, it's not like you're actually kissing him, Tink will pull you away by your hair. At least this time," She responded, winking at the both of us.

I gulped and looked at Robbie. He glanced at his script, his cheeks blushing.

"And, action!" Mrs. Richardson announced.

"No! I won't have it! Come on!" Robbie said, looking at me.

"But where are we going?" I asked, in Wendy's sweet innocent voice.

"To Never Land!" Robbie exclaimed, reaching for my hand.

"Never land!"

"You'll never grow up there!"

"Oh, Peter, it would be so wonderful. But wait! What would mother say?"

"Mother? What's a mother?"

"Why Peter, a mother's someone....who loves and cares for you and tells you stories-"

"Good! You can be our mother! Come on!"

"Now, wait just a minute, I..., Let me see now, I have to pack. Oh, and I must leave a note when I'll be back. Of course, I couldn't stay too long. And then I have to- Ohh Never Land!Oh, I- I'm so happy, I'm so happy I think I'll give you a-a kiss!"

"What's a-a kiss?"

"Oh, well, I-I'll show you!"

I had gone in to act like I was going to kiss Robbie, but me being me, I tripped over my own two feet before Sarah could come and pull me back, and my lips actually made connection to Robbie's. Fireworks and everything. It was amazing, just the way people in books describe it. I heard Mrs. Richardson gasp and I immediately pulled away. Everyone in the theatre was staring. The girls that liked Robbie were glaring at me.

"Robbie..I'm so sorry! I slipped. I didn't mean to!" I said, feeling my face turn red.

"Uhm. Actually, (Y/n). I needed to talk to you about something..." Robbie said, moving to where the curtains hung.

"Right now? In front of everyone? Robbie, what's going on? We were just auditioning." I felt so embarrassed, and my anxiety was taking over.

Robbie pulled out a giant poster that said, "If I'm Peter Pan, will you be my Wendy?"

"What? Robbie?" I asked, stepping back slightly.

"(Y/n)..I've liked you for a long while now. I never knew how to ask you, or if you even felt the same. I figured it was time to take the chance and find out. So what do you say? Will you be my Wendy?"

I glanced around the Theatre, then back at Robbie. I walked up to him, kissed him again, then stepped back for a moment.

"Yes, Robbie. I'll be your Wendy, darling."
