Stupid, Stupid, Stupid

Now

"Hawks!" Mirko cries as I haul the two children into the hospital. Two doctors cut her off, taking the children from me and thanking me for my work. Mirko throws her arms around me, snuggling into my shoulder. "God, are you alright? You've been crying! C'mon, let's go to your place. I'm gonna treat you with a home cooked meal, a movie marathon, and plenty of alcohol." But as she grabs my hand and pulls me to the exit, I break down. Tears stream down my face, and my entire body is wracked with sobs. Mirko pauses, looking at me, then simply hugs me. I let her hero costume absorb my tears.

He never came back for me. He promised, and he never did.

Touya never loved me. He broke into my room because he was bored. We were forced together by the scary reality of loneliness. I should've just listened to my father and never left the house. I remember his angry, drunk face as he spit down on me, kicking me in the ribs like I was a soccer ball. "You don't wanna go out there, Keigo," he growled at me. "The only thing the outside world has that our home doesn't is cocaine, death, and broken promises."

I'd rather be kicked in the ribs right now.

Mirko takes me home, calling Endeavor, Edgeshot, EraserHead, and Present Mic on the way. The band of elite pros meet Mirko and me at my apartment, but I don't even have the energy to be embarrassed by my tear-streaked face. Mirko passes my limp body off to Mic and Aizawa who tend to father me just like they do to the U.A. students.

"What happened?" Endeavor booms. "Who did this?"

"Some crazy villain," I choke out. "A little girl called me and reported her dad being abusive. We showed up and turns out this guy was some big-time crime boss. Uh, the one with the cane and the red hair."

"Kenji J," Edgeshot grumbles. "We've been trying to catch him for decades."

"Mirko, you were with him?" Aizawa asks the bunny hero.

Confused, Mirko shakes her head. "No, I was out on Maine Street. Big time bank robbery."

"But you said 'we', right Hawks?" Aizawa continues, "Was there someone else with you?"

I shove my face into Mic's collarbone, feeling tears work their way into my eyes again. God, I'm like a teenage girl whose quarterback boyfriend cheated on her with the head cheerleader. Stupid dumb boys and their stupid dumb excuses. Before I know it, I'm crying again. I hate being lied to; I hate being weak; I hate being used.

"Correct me if I'm wrong," Edgeshot says, raising his hand as if we're in school, "but does this have to do with a lover? A rough separation, perhaps?"

I scream into my hands, muffling the sound. We were gonna get married! God damn stupid fucking emo bad boys!

"My hypothesis was correct," Edgeshot says.

"So, who's the person we have to kill?" Mirko booms. "Girl, boy, enby? More than one? I'll kill them all!"

"Heroes don't kill," Endeavor growls.

"Fuck, guess imma be a villain for my bestie!" Mirko says.

I scream again, stomping my feet on the floor like a child. And he chose to be a villain instead of coming back to get me?? Do I even mean anything to him?? Before the group can throw more questions at me, my front door is blown off the hinges, and in stumbles Touya– or, as the band of heroes know him as, Dabi from the league of villains.
