Chapter 23 (Hawks)

“Fuck!” I exclaim as pain shoots through my abdomen. Why couldn’t my testosterone shots prevent this from ever happening again. It’s just like eleven years ago with Kaito, only this time, it hurts worse. “Why now?” Touya isn’t here due to his part of the mission with class 1A, and I have no idea where Kaito is at the moment. Last I knew, he was heading to get us some food.

I don’t even process anything through the pain, and when I can tell what’s going on again, my phone is in my hand with Touya’s number dialed on the screen. I'm not going to hit call. He'll just worry about me, and he can't even be here. No, I'll wait until after.

I don't know what point the call button is actually hit, but by the time this egg, a pink one that’s bigger than Kaito’s was, is out, I realize that Touya has been trying to get my attention to tell him what's causing my screams of pain. I didn’t mean to call him, and now he's worried about me.

"Fuck," I groan out. "I didn't mean to call you yet."

"What's going on, Baby Bird?" I can hear Touya’s worry. "You sounded like you were in a great deal of pain."

I take a picture of the egg before wrapping it up in one wing. I'm not sure how I'm going to keep this one warm. The Commission isn't here to get ahold of an incubator for me, and I'm sure the support course at UA has more important things to make than an incubator for my little egg.

I send the picture to Touya, before speaking again. "Check your messages."

I can tell the moment he sees the picture as he gasps. "Kei- Keigo, is that what I think it is?"

I groan. "Yes, you managed to knock me up again. I didn't have any symptoms with Kai, so I honestly didn't realize what was going on until now. This one's bigger than his was."

"I'm sorry," Touya sounds way too happy to actually mean the apology. "I thought you would have been on some sort of birth control by now. I mean, I'm happy that Kaito won't be an only child, but I know this probably doesn't help with the dysphoria you've been dealing with since you can't get your shots."

I wince at the reminder that with everything going on, I haven't had access to my testosterone shots in over a month. "Yeah, definitely doesn't help, and I don't know how to get ahold of an incubator."

I can practically hear the gears turning in his head. "I mean, you could just stay with the egg. Your instincts should tell you what to do as long as you listen to them."

The door to the room opens. I'm surprised Kaito didn't hear me yelling out in pain earlier and come running, but I'm also glad he didn't. It would have likely traumatized the poor boy. It's probably traumatizing enough for him that I haven't put pants back on yet, and I didn't even move the blanket to cover me.

The plate he's holding slips from his grasp as Kaito excitedly rushes over to get a better look at the egg tucked in my wing. I'm a big brother. He beams as he signs, reaching out a hand to gently touch the egg.

I nod. "Yeah. It seems so."

Touya can tell that I was talking to Kaito as he asks to change over to video call. I do as he asked, so that he can actually talk to Kai.

"I need you to take extra care of your momma right now," Touya tells him. "He can't leave the egg alone the way he could with yours, so it's going to be a lot harder on him, okay?"

Kaito nods. I'll take care of him, dad. He looks at me then down at the egg. My egg was blue. Does that mean I'm getting a sister?

I shrug. "I don't know. Maybe. I never thought about the color of the egg meaning anything before."

The egg is so blindingly pink. It's not just a pale pink color, like how Kaito’s egg was pale blue, no, this is a bright, almost fluorescent pink. Maybe Kai is right, and the color of the egg tells us the birth gender of the baby. Either way, we should definitely come up with names for both genders, just in case.

"I know you have to go. Your mission is going to start soon, but if this is anything like with Kaito, the egg should hatch in about five months. Start thinking of names for both genders so we can be ready. I'll think of some too, so we can decide what we like by the time it hatches."

Touya nods in the video call. "Kai, make sure to help him as much as you can. And, Keigo, try not to dwell on things too much. I love all three of you, and I'll be back as soon as I can."

We both tell him that we love him before hanging up the call. Kaito picks up the mess he made in his shock, and heads back downstairs to grab more food. When he gets back, I ask if he can hold the egg while I get some pants back on, and go to the bathroom. I quickly show him how to hold the egg so that it can be kept warm, going so far as to wrap it in a blanket that the girl with the creation quirk made for me to match my old Endeavor blanket, but this one is Rising Phoenix instead, a far more suitable blanket to wrap my unhatched egg in.

When I return, Kai asks about his egg and how this one compares. I comment on how much bigger this egg is, nearly three quarters bigger than his was, and how much brighter the color is. We both speculate on why this one is so much bigger. I think it's just because my body is far more mature than it was when I had Kaito, but of course, Kai has his own ideas on the reason.

What if it's twins? I could have two baby sisters! His excitement is extremely visible in how quick his signs are.

I groan at the thought of twins. Yeah, I have Touya to help me, and I'm sure Kaito will be more than willing to help with how excited he is, but the thought of taking care of two infants is exhausting. I desperately hope that, this time, Kaito’s guess is wrong.

So we were thinking, does anyone want us to do a Q&A? If you want us to, comment questions about us and about the story here, and we'll answer them in a Q&A chapter after we post the last chapter.

Next chapter will be posted on TheWriterShikari787's copy of this story.
