Escape

Recap...

I hear Kiera scream and I try to get up but I'm kicked down. I hear a laugh before I pass out.

2 weeks later

Kiera:

It's been a little over 2 weeks without Adonis and I just want to know if he's ok. Michael said that he was dead but neither Nico or I believe it. Light fills the room as the cell door is opened and Nico is thrown in. 2 loaves of bread are thrown in after him and a jug of water is set down as well indicating that he won the fight.

The door is shut after and I hear the familiar click of the lock. I rush over to Nico and help him sit against the wall. "Here, eat this," I say handing a loaf of bread to him. He shakes his head and mutters "You eat it, you need the energy more than I do." He coughs and pulls something out of his mouth as if realizing he had it. I ignore it and say "You need to eat it, you haven't eaten in 3 days but you fight twice a day. At least eat half."

"I do it for you, so you stay out of harms way as much as possible," he says. I shake my head and sit next to him with the bread on my lap. I split it in half and hand him a piece. Surprisingly he takes it without hesitation but he doesn't start eating. I sigh and start eating my piece. I feel like I'm always hungry. This baby is sucking all of my energy.

Nico places the bread in my lap and I glare at him. He looks back and with his eyes motions me to look at the bread. I roll my eyes and pick it up my eyes widen but I quickly put on an emotionless face. There is a small set of keys hidden in the bread. Nico leans over to put his head on my shoulder and he whispers "In 20 minutes the morning guard will leave and the day guard will come. He takes 5 minutes to get here so we have to act fast if we want to get out." I hum and continue eating the bread after placing his on his lap.

If we cause even the smallest amount of suspicion we won't get a chance to escape. I've been harmed these past few weeks but not as much as Nico. He takes the most of it by fighting. They have an outside area to have him fight Michael's best soldiers. As long as he lasts 10 minutes we'll get food and water. If he doesn't I get whipped and we don't get food or water. It's a vicious cycle.

Nico gets off of me when we hear the guard leave and we wait until the foot steps go quiet before getting up. Nico grabs the keys out of the bread and manages to unlock the door with the second key. He goes out first and motions for me to follow after he looks at his surroundings. I follow closely behind him and we make it to some kind of broiler room/ tools storage area. Nico shuts the door and speedily walks over to a big tank.

He starts working by lining up and connecting spray paint cans together next to the tank and then covers a thin rope in gasoline before connecting that to one of the cans and walking towards me holding the string and a lighter. "Let's go, no matter what you do don't look back and get to safety. Look for Adonis when you get out," Nico says sternly. "What? Why?" I ask. "Just promise me you'll do it," he says. "Ok, I will," I respond and he nods. He gives me a quick hug and says "It'll all be ok."

He leads me back out of the room and we make it to a door that leads outside. He opens it and I look at the surroundings. We're in some kind of parking lot, weeds are overgrown and peeking through the pavement. There's a sidewalk not far from here and some overgrown trees along both sides of the pavement. I look back towards Nico and he's just standing holding the door open. Not even a second later an alarm goes off and he yells "Go, now." I go doing as he says and run across the parking lot and make it to a tree before falling due to a huge blast.

I turn around to see the building I was kept in up in flames and a few bodies scattered around it. My wild eyes search for Nico but he isn't around. I look even more and notice a body a few feet away from me. His head is cracked open and the lighter is lying on the ground not far from him. Tears start streaming down my face and I run. I run down the sidewalk and eventually make it to a town before I collapse on the ground. I sob and just lay on the ground. I want to give up. I let myself slip away into a deep sleep and hope for my mind to be a better place than the world.

Adonis:

"Any news on Kiera or Nico," I ask Alex. We lost both of them that night. I refuse to believe they died and I've had people looking for both since. I would've been with them if I hadn't been so injured. My leg isn't even fully healed now, I just have to avoid to much activity so I don't tear my stitches. "No boss, we haven't found anything," he says. I sigh and dismiss him from my office. I continue doing my paperwork and my phone starts to ring and I answer it "Yes?" I ask. "Is this Adonis Drakos?" a lady asks. "Yes, what is it?" I ask. I'm not in the mood for this.

"This is Sacred Heart hospital calling to inform you about Kiera Ricci, she has requested you come," the lady says. My eyes widen. "Yes, I will be there. Where is she?" I ask. "We're in Chicago," she says. I hang up and rush out. I find Alex and tell him "Kiera's been found, start the jet immediately we're going to Chicago." "Yes boss," he says and rushes to make the arrangments. I get to my car and start packing as soon as I get home. I pack two bags and rush out to the car again.

I get to my jet and board it and wait for them to finish fueling the jet so I can actually leave. I hope she's ok.

Fast forward

I rush in and go straight to the front desk. "I'm here for Kiera Ricci," I say. "Who are you?" she asks. "Adonis Drakos," I say and she starts typing on her computer. It takes her a few seconds before she says "Ok, you can go right in I'll have Jason take you there." She nods toward one of the nurses and he leads me to her room before leaving. I open the door immediately and go to her bedside.

She looks thinner than before. Her wounds seem to be ok at least. If they had gotten infected she would be in serious condition. I watch her sleep for a while before a doctor walks in. "You must be Adonis," he says. "Yes," I respond and he nods going over to check Kiera's IV. "She could not stop talking about you yesterday it took a while to find your phone number," he says. "How long has she been here?" I ask. "She came in yesterday. Someone found her a few blocks away from an old restaurant that got blown up. She was in surprisingly good condition, she only had a few new injuries. We just had to clean her old wounds and bandage her new ones," he says.

"Can she be transported?" I ask. "Yes, you just have to fill out some paperwork. "I can do that, by any chance was a man also found?" I ask him. "The police are still looking over the wreckage, they already came by to interview Kiera," he says. I nod and watch as he finishes up. I decided to call Alex. "Alex," I say. "Have you found her boss?" he asks. "Yes, have everything ready for when I get back, I will text you what she needs," I say. "Ok boss, anything else?" he asks. "Yes, call the Chicago police and inform them we'll want updates on their current investigation about a blown-up restaurant," I tell him. "Got it boss," Alex says and I hang up.
