Only You

Hawks lay in bed, wide-eyed with a new headache forming, as he tried for the umpteenth time to fall asleep this night. Every time he closed his eyes a new disturbance brushed by his wings, and whatever slumber he was falling into pushed him back. He exerted a loud sigh of defeat when he felt the final blow, literally, from the smallest gust of wind brush by the curve of his wings.

He jumped out of bed to force his already closed window even more shut than before. Hoping this time—maybe this time—he could get some shut eye, he sighed again and lay back in bed. This time, he tucked his wings close to his body and pulled his blanket up to his nose.

Every night was like this. Unfortunately for Hawks, his wings may be his greatest talent but they were also his curse. The slightest whisper of the wind or even an ant crawling on a single feather, he could feel it so vividly. It was great for his hero work... not so much for everyday activities such as sleeping.

It was what kept you and Hawks apart at night. As much as he loved you, even a slight hum while you slept would make it so sleep was unattainable for him. You didn't mind that you had to sleep separately because of it. The poor man needed all the rest he could get, even if it didn't come often. And you weren't going to get in the way of that.

Hawks closed his eyes and relaxed as much as he could, ignoring the way the sheets caressed his wings. Each breath of his shifted the very sheets attempting to soothe his body. Another defeated sigh left his body and tossed his sheets aside. He kicked off his bed and made his way to the kitchen.

In a sleepy haze, he poured himself a cup of water. As he sipped slowly, he heard the slightest of a cry coming in the direction of your room. Without finishing the cup, he set it down and carefully stepped toward your door. He turned the knob slowly so as not to disturb you, and lifted the door slightly to avoid the possible creak as he pushed it open.

There you lay in your bed, squirming and mumbling under your breath, as your face warped in fear. "Please, stop...," you breathed out in a small cry desperately.

He walked to the side of your bed and looked at your face to see tears staining your pillow. Your hands weakly push away your nightmare and mumble incoherent pleas once again.

Hawks debated awaking you, but lost it to himself. He shook his head, scratching his head as he tried to make up any kind of answer to this problem. He didn't want to disturb your sleep, but maybe it would be best if it meant a nightmare-free slumber.

He sighed in defeat the second your trembling lips mumbled his name in a soft whisper. "Keigo..."

How can he deny you, when you spoke his name so sweetly even in your dreams?

His hand caressed your cheek, wiping away a single tear, and he finally found himself lifting the sheets to welcome himself. He lay his wing over your figure as he hugged you close and pulled the sheets over your body. He kissed your forehead resulting in a comfortable sigh from your lips as you welcomed his warmth.

He can feel the warmth of your body on his feathers and every move as your breathed slowly. The sensory overload from his feathers made him more awake than ever. Perhaps this is okay because it's you. Because he knows you're alive and well.

Once again, he felt exhausted with no escape to his own sleep, but this time... with you in his arms, it was bearable. Maybe this is what he needed at night, instead of laying wide awake and alone waiting for peace. If he wasn't going to catch any sleep at night, it's better to be with you than spend it alone.
