Nightmares

A/N: I've been suffering from a lot of nightmares lately, so here is some comfort.

You woke up in a cold sweat again, with an impending sense of doom in the pit of your stomach. You were sitting on the edge of the bed and slightly hitting your fist against your thigh.

You were so tired, this had been going on for weeks, every night, sometimes even multiple times a night. You would wake up with a lingering feeling of panic from the nightmares, and usually just laid there, alone and frustrated. Tonight was different however, because for the first time in a couple of weeks, you had company.

"What's wrong babybird?" Hawks muttered sleepily, rubbing his eyes.

"It's nothing, go back to sleep Keigo" you said with your back to him.

You could hear his wings fluttering open a little and soon one of his feathers was caressing your cheek.

You turned to look at him, raising your other leg on the bed. Hawks had noticed you'd been tired but now you looked absolutely exhausted.

"You've been having nightmares again haven't you?" he asked with a more serious expression.

"For a few weeks now, yeah" you nodded.

Hawks was well aware that while he hadn't been over to your place for the night in a couple of weeks, but still, he should've noticed the signs. He had met up with you for lunch and coffee a few times, but he hadn't really given any thought to the shape you were in. In fact, he probably had, but he had had so many other things on his mind, he had pushed the signs he had noticed straight out of his mind.

"Have you been taking your meds?" he asked and returned his feather to its place, moving closer to you on the bed.

"Yes, but I don't really have any actual sleeping medication, so I guess I just need to suck it up and deal with it"

Hawks pulled your hand a bit and you laid down on the bed next to him, pulling the covers over yourself.

"I'm just so freaking tired Keigo" you sighed.

Hawks didn't know what to do. He couldn't chase away your bad dreams like he could some physical threat. He would just have to find some way to help you through this, until the nightmares went away.

"Keigo?" you yawned.

"Hmm?"

"You should go to sleep, I know you have an early morning tomorrow"

"I'll sleep when you do, and if you wake up again, so will I" he said and kissed your forehead.

"I appreciate it, but there's really no reason for you to suffer with me" you said and brushed his bangs to the side of his face with two of your fingers.

"You do realize that you're not gonna change my mind, right?"

"It was" -yawn- "worth a try" you smiled tiredly.

"Go to sleep babybird, I'll watch over you"

"Thank you Keigo" you sighed and snuggled your face to your pillow

Even though you knew he couldn't just make your nightmares go away, you felt a bit better knowing that at least tonight, he was there with you, and that night, you didn't wake up again until morning.
