Chapter 29

The Warriors brought the Beatles to Police Headquarters and explained what had just happened.

"How could they have the audacity to call the police on themselves?" said George.

"I dunno, but they did" said Sam.

"But what has she done with Jill?" said Paul.

"We apologize, Mr McCartney, but she didn't say anything about her" said Chief O'Hara.

"She's had her for too long. When are we gonna hear from them?" said Paul.

"At noon" said Calvin.

"What does she want?" said Paul quickly.

"Pull yourself together, Paul. She's given us until noon, so all we can do is wait to hear the demand" said Batman.

"I'll give her anything. Anything she wants. All I want is to have Jill back!" Paul almost shouted.

"Hang in there, Macca" said John.

Just then, the phone rang and Commissioner Gordon picked it up.

"Go ahead; we're listening" he said.

The call lasted for about thirty seconds before he hung up.

"What did she ask for? Whatever it is, she can have it!" said Paul.

"She doesn't want anything from you, Paul" said Commissioner Gordon.

"But she's my fiancee. What does she want?" said Paul.

"She wants a twenty million dollar ransom from Sam & Robin" said Commissioner Gordon.

"What?" said the Beatles in unison.

"Us?" said Sam.

"Them?" said Ringo.

"I'm afraid so" said Commissioner Gordon.

He put Lady Peasoup on loudspeaker again.

"Are you still there, Commissioner?" she said.

"Yes. Sam & Robin will answer your demand now" said Commissioner Gordon.

"We'll do nothing of the sort. Twenty million is too much from a pair of teenagers" said Robin.

"You won't pay me?" said Lady Peasoup.

"Not on our lives" said Sam.

"Very well. It's curtains for your Jill then" said Lady Peasoup as she hung up the phone.

"Curtains?" said George.

"Oh, Jill..." Paul sobbed.

"Not to worry, Beatles. Fortunately, Robin and I have faced this criminal before. We know where she lives so we can intercept her there and rescue Jill" said Batman.

"Please do, and hurry" said Paul.
