Honton pe sachai rehti hai

The words fell upon my ears, like a grenade. Shehryaar, was in critical condition. I had to go see him. I tried to get up from my bed but, “Ahhh”, I moaned cause my back hurt again, but this time I did not let it get to me. I ignored the pain, and got down from the bed, and walked towards the door, when an alarm went off.

It was a signal, to the doctor when the patient tried to get out of their bed. I ignored that too, and opened the door.

I saw Hussain sitting in front of my door, with his head in his hands, crying.

“Hussain?”, I said.

He looked up at me, with his red, swollen eyes. “Amna, what are you doing here? How did you come out?” he got up and held me, realizing that my fractured leg couldn’t hold me any longer.

“Hussain, mujhe Shehryaar  ke paas leke chalo. Please? Main sirk ek baar use dekhna chahti hoon.”, I begged.

“Amna, he’s in the ICU…”, but I cut him off. “I know he’s in the ICU, and he’s in there because of me. Take me to him please?”

By then, the doctors had arrived, because of the alarm, and asked Hussain to take me back into my room.

“Nahi Hussain, please, take me to Shehry!”, I pleaded, and Hussain convinced the doctors to let me go.

He held me, with his arm around my waist to support me, while my hand was on his shoulder, as I limped. He took me to a wheelchair, and very carefully, sat me down.

He then pushed the wheelchair, towards the ICU section of the hospital.  He stopped infront of the room 24B, and said, “This is his room.”

“I tried getting up, and he immediately came forward and helped me get up, so I could look at Shehry, from the tiny window on the door.

I peeped through the glass, and I could immediately feel tears rolling down both my cheeks, as I watched Shehryaar’s face covered with the oxygen mask, and his head, arms and legs covered in bandages. There were a few scars on his face too.

I raised my right arm, and touched the glass, as if I wanted to touch his face, and right then Hussain noticed something.

“Amna! Shehryaar’s breath is getting faster. Stay here Imma call the doctor.”, and he ran.

Hussain’s POV:

“Doctor! Q-Qui-Quick! I think Shehry..I thi-think…someth..ing is hap-happening to him…!”, I gasped between the words, to catch my breath.

The doctor grabbed his coat and stethoscope, followed me to Shehry’s room, where Amna was still standing by the door. I helped Amna sit down on the wheelchair, while the doctor and the nurses rushed in.

“Hussain, yeh sab mera fault hai. Shehry ki yeh halat sirf meri wajah se hui hai.”, Amna cried.

I tried consoling her but she didn’t stop crying.

I placed my hand on her shoulder and said, “Dekho, main yeh nahi jaanta ke tum dono ke beech kya hua….but I just know this much that he loves you a lot Amna!”, I continued, “Do you know, agar Shehry na hota, toh you would be in his place in the ICU right now?”

“What?”, she was shocked.

I know I wasn’t supposed to be telling her all this but I had to.

Shehry mujhe maaf karde. I know you wouldn’t want me to tell her, but  I have to.

“Haan! The truck was coming towards the passenger side. They found your car turned towards the right, with the truck’s impact towards the driver’s side. Agar Shehry ne sahi time pe car na turn ki hoti, you’d be in ICU right now, or probably even dead…who knows?”, I cried.

She sat there, stunned. As if paralyzed, she didn’t move, while tears fell rapidly down her face.  She didn’t say a word.

By this time our families had arrived, and seeing Amna out of her room, her parents took her back, while my parents tried consoling me.

“Mama, apko pata hai na, Shehry Amna se kitna pyaar karta hai? He’s never told you but he’s known Amna from before the party. He’s known her since almost the first day of college. Aur aaj, who ICU main sirf uske pyaar ki wajah se hai…”, I cried.

“Nahi beta aise nahi bolte…”,she was saying but I interrupted, “Nahi Mama, they found the car turned towards the right. He turned the car only to save Amna. Usne apni jaan khatre mein daal li, just to save Amna.”, I hugged Mama really tightly, and she hugged me back, wiping away her tears.

The doctors, walked out of the room, “Shehryaar, is out of danger. We are going to move him to general care now.”

Ya Allah tera laakh laakh shukar hai.

Mama and Baba couldn’t hold back their tears, and the smiled as tears escaped their eyes. We all gave each other a big family hug.

The doctors then told us that we could go in and meet Shehry if we wanted to.

Shehry’s POV:

I opened my eyes, to find Hussain, Mama, and Baba in my room. Mama was holding my hand in her’s.

“How do you feel now?”, asked Hussain.

“Yeah..fine…”, I replied, in my half asleep state, “Amna kaisi hai?”

“Yeah she’s fine…”, he replied blandly, without any expression.

Mama, and baba spoke to me for a bit and then walked out, so that I could rest, but Hussain stayed back.

“Yeah..I’ll come in a bit..”, he said went hey asked him to come out.

He then walked towards me and asked, “Why’d you do this?”

“Do what?”, I realized where this was going.

“You know what I’m talking about…”, he folded his hands, and tapped his feet on the ground.

“I love her Hussain! I couldn’t let anything happen to her.”

“Dude! She’s okay, just a few injuries, and fractures…”, he replied.

“WHAT? She’s injured? Where is she?”, he asked.

“DUDE! STOP! FOR GOD’S SAKE JUST STOP!”, he said in anger, “You put your life in danger, risked your life, you’re in ICU now, and all you still care about Amna? Are you out of your senses?”

“Hussain…”, but he interrupted, “Bas Shehry Bas! Aur kuch nahi sun na hai mujhe! Chup chap rest karo, and we’ll talk when they take you to the other room.”

He walked towards the door and opened it, and I saw Sana standing out with Amna on a wheelchair.

“Amna!” I exclaimed, but she didn’t reply. Instead she started crying.

“Shehryaar, Hussain, she has something to tell you guys.”, said Sana.

“What?”, Hussain and I said in unison.

Sana walked in, and stopped right in front of my bed.

“Say it..”, she ordered Amna.

"I lied to you Shehryaar..", she said.
