XXXVI

I let out a yawn as I dropped into my seat, watching out of the corner of my eye as Reid sat down next to me. The second his butt hit the seat I snuggled into him, looping my arms around his as I rested my head on his shoulder.

"Um, excuse me." His voice was laced with sass, causing me to look up at him and pout.

"What?"

"I was going to lean on you," he retorted jokingly.

I rolled my eyes and moved even closer, tightly gripping his arm as I let out a heavy sigh and closed my eyes.

He let out a low chuckle and kissed my face, which despite how grumpy I still felt managed to make me smile. By now my level of exhaustion had only increased, causing my brain to feel almost fuzzy, while the rest of my body ached in pain thanks to the tiny creature growing inside my stomach.

"I vote we head to Okeefe's once we get back." I heard Rossi suggest.

I opened one eye, scanning the length of the plane curiously to see the reactions of others. Almost immediately the majority of them chimed in agreement, nodding their heads in excitement as Rossi smiled warmly in response. "How about you two?" He pointed towards Reid and I, raising his brow.

I peeked up at Reid who merely shrugged his shoulders and looked to me for a response. While part of me definitely wanted nothing to do with the company of people, the other part felt weirdly attached to the idea. It'd been a while since we'd gone out as a team.

"If you come I'll buy you drinks," JJ wiggled her brows in my direction. "Virgin, obviously."

"Sure, but only if you guys let me nap first." I tightened my grip on Reid's arm as I closed my eyes again. Under my grasp, I felt him shuffle awkwardly. I furrowed my brow in annoyance and opened one eye again, wondering what he could possibly be doing. At that point I realized he was trying to reach his bag on the floor, making a big effort not to move his arm from mine. I let out a quiet giggle and let him go, adjusting myself in my seat as I watched him flash an apologetic look before reaching into his bag to grab his book. When he finally got a hold of it he settled back in his seat, motioning me to return.

"What are you reading?" I settled my cheek against his shoulder again and narrowed my eyes at the cover.

"Nothing. Go to sleep." He used his opposite hand to ruffle my hair.

I swatted it away and quietly groaned as I pushed the loose hair out of my face. I wasn't sure why he always insisted on messing with my hair, but the more it happened the quicker I grew tired of it. "Jerk."

"Sure am." He opened the book to the first page, giving it a quick scan before flipping it over. Out of curiosity I leaned forward, narrowing my eyes at the words on the page. At first I wasn't sure what the book was even about, which for some reason made me grow even curiouser.

At that point Reid noticed my watchful eye and lifted it out of my vision, giving me an unimpressed look. "I wanna read too." I frowned.

"You're not allowed," he retorted matter of factly.

Angrily, I sat up in my seat and reached for the novel, wiggling my fingers as Reid extended his arm out so I couldn't get it. At that moment I wanted to punch his parents for giving him the longest limbs on the planet as I continued to struggle.

With a groan, I stood up and tried to grab it again. Unfortunately though, he knew right away what was happening and moved the book into his torso, hugging it tightly as he laughed at my feeble attempt. I swore under my breath and grabbed at his sides, slowly moving them up from underneath his elbows which were pressed tightly against him. "Oh, my god! Let me see!"

By now the whole plane was staring over at us in confusion. For a quick second I looked up at the rest of them with pleading eyes, still moving my hands around Reid's sides. "He's hiding something from me!" I called out.

"Reid, let her see." Hotch responded sternly. I swear in the quick second I made eye contact with him I saw a smirk play against his lips.

"Yeah, what dad said," I joked. At that point Hotch just rolled his eyes and leaned his head into his hand in annoyance.

For a split second Reid paused, which unfortunately for him gave me enough time to sneak my hand underneath his arm to grab it. When my hand made contact I gripped it tightly and ripped it from his grasp, yelling out triumphantly as I jumped away from the seat. He called out to me grumpily and stood from his too, quickly snaking his arm around my waist as he pulled me onto his lap. Both of us laughed and held onto either side of the book, pulling it back and forth. When I looked down at the cover though, I let go, my mouth falling open in surprise as I looked at his face. Almost immediately it went bright red, which caused me to smile in delight.

"A baby naming book?" I raised my brow and ripped it from his hand. This time he didn't fight it. I placed the book on my lap and tossed it to a random page, scanning the various suggestions. "I thought you said I was thinking too far ahead."

"I didn't say that."

I scoffed and rolled my eyes as I flipped over the page. "You said we had two hundred and twenty-eight days to figure it out."

"Yeah, but now we have less than that." He snatched the book from my hand again, flashing me a smirk as he shoved it back into his bag and pressed a kiss to my shoulder blade.

"What's the book?" Alex called out curiously. She gave Reid a quick eyebrow raise that made me wonder if she already knew.

Before Reid could answer I covered his mouth. "Just some boring childhood development textbook." I gave her a fake eye roll, which she immediately saw through. Instead of saying anything though, she merely winked in our direction.

"You're not gonna tell them?" He whispered quietly.

I shook my head and moved from his lap back to my seat. While I appreciated the sudden physical attention I figured right now probably wasn't the best time to participate in it, especially given the comment we'd received from Morgan earlier. Our PDA levels were at an all time high for some reason and while I thoroughly enjoyed it the last thing I wanted was to make the rest of the team uncomfortable.

I settled my head back against his shoulder and closed my eyes. For a while I sat there silently, taking a couple of deep breaths to calm my erratic heartbeat down. On top of jumping around, the fact that he was looking at literal baby names for our child made my heart flutter anxiously.

He leaned into me; his forehead pressing against the side of my face as he whispered, "are there any you've thought of?"

"Names?"

"Yeah."

I took another deep breath, trying to rack through my brain for some sort of answer. While I'd definitely done some extensive research on the matter I hadn't found anything. Something about the severity of it all freaked me out too much to full decide on anything, especially without his approval. The last thing I wanted to do was make the wrong decision.

"Not really." I eventually answered with a sigh. I opened my eyes again, glancing up to meet his curious gaze. "You?"

He shook his head. "No, but I've done some research on naming traditions. Did you know that Zulu names, like most indigenous names in Southern Africa, are often given regarding the situation of the family when a child is born?"

I raised my brow, signalling him to continue.

"This naming process is also referred to as the home name, which can denote expectations and encouragement for a baby, as well as reflect how the family relates to others in the community." At this point his hands were moving wildly in front of him, weaving gracefully through the air as he continued his story. "Zulu children are often named even before they are born, but after birth, an Imbeleko ceremony is performed in order to introduce them to their ancestors who live in the spirt world."

I sat up again, giving him a curious look. "And this relates to our baby how?"

"It doesn't," he responded with a laugh, "but it did get me thinking about the circumstances of how I'd like to go about naming them."

"How's that?"

"I want it to be meaningful," he replied with a shrug.

I held back a smile and reached for his hand. For such nerd he really knew how to sweep a woman off her feet. "I mean, I'm having a baby with you. That's pretty meaningful, right?"

He looked down at our hands and smiled.

At that moment I brought his fingers upwards, giving his knuckles a quick kiss before settling back into his shoulder and closing my eyes for the fourth time.

"Get some rest," he cooed quietly.

"Okay." I wrapped my arm around his again, flashing him one final smile before drifting off to sleep.
