*Where's this going, Reid?*

*Where's this going, Reid?*

(Amelia's P.O.V)

I recoiled slightly. That was the first time I'd ever fired a gun as a BAU profiler. I wasn't even qualified to use one yet.

What I didn't understand was why Hotch didn't tell the killer to step away from the gun. Why did he lower his own weapon? I grabbed the gun off Reid because I saw it in his eyes; he wasn't done. He'd regained a little confidence. He was going to go for it. And I had to think fast.

Morgan rushed in a moment later and cuffed the writhing man, dragging him out the room. He glared at me through the pain as he passed, and I shot him a look of defiance. They always get caught. Always.

"How did you know?" Reid asked me as Hotch confronted the woman and her daughter.

I shrugged. "I saw it in his eyes."

He grinned, and it made me feel fuzzy. Stop it, Amelia. "Well, you just saved someone's life. And good shot! You were aiming for his shoulder, right?"

"Of course!" I exclaimed.

Hotch approached us and Reid instantly offered up an excuse to leave. I smiled at his back and turned to face Hotch.

"Well done today, Shields," he praised, and I felt myself flush slightly. "I believe you're ready for that gun test now."

I nodded and offered him a smile. "Of course, sir."

A hint of a smile touched his lips, then he turned away. I huffed with relief. Glad that was over.

The ride back to the BAU was quiet and uneventful. I caught Reid glancing at me several times and ignored the urge to meet his gaze. I had to stop this un-professionalism; he probably thought of me as nothing more than a work partner. It was merely my hopeful imagination convincing myself he was taking interest in me.

I slumped against my desk and checked the clock. Half past eight? Man, I was hungry. My stomach gurgled unhappily in confirmation, and apparently Reid noticed too.

"You hungry?" He chuckled, stretching out his legs, subtly brushing past mine. I averted my gaze so he couldn't see my red cheeks.

"Uh, yeah. I suppose so."

He nodded and paused, his face a mixture of emotions. He frowned thoughtfully.

What was he thinking about?

"Well, um, I am... too," he muttered after a while, seeming hesitant.

Was he trying to...

"Where's this going, Reid?" My voice was laced with obvious hopefulness. Great. That just gave away everything.

But he didn't seem fazed. Perhaps he didn't notice. He glanced up at me though.

"Well, um, I was just wondering, if you'd, er, perhaps just want to grab a drink and something to eat somewhere. I don't know, you don't... you don't have to. It's just because you haven't eaten in... seven hours and twenty minutes and I figured..."

"Sure."

He looked visibly relived and I couldn't conceal my amusement.

"Okay. That's good. Um, shall we go soon?"

"How about now?" Stuff professionalism; I was merely going out with a friend.

He grabbed his jacket and waved goodbye to the others.

"Have a nice time!" JJ sang with a wink. Whatever. I flashed her a sarcastic smile and followed Spencer out of the building.

We hopped into my car and I started the engine. "So, Dr. Reid. Where shall we go?"

*Uh, thank Reid it's Friday! I'm gonna spend all night writing fanfics for you guys ;) Haha. Have a nice weekend!*
