3 - that's not how it works

"That's the corniest thing I have ever heard."

Hawks laughed. "But you know you like it."

I rolled my eyes, not bothering to respond to him because I know he'll just continue on and on. My head was starting to hurt and I knew it was because I overused my quirk. This day is just getting better and better.

"Well, wing hero, thanks for your help earlier. And uh," I gave him the peace sign. "Bye."

Didn't give Hawks a chance to answer back because I made my way down the building. Maybe if I keep walking, I'll see something familiar on the map or in person. The streets weren't crowded, so I could easily void bumping into people, especially when I'm just looking down on my phone. My feet moved all on their own and I had no idea where they were taking them, but I was just too tired to care at that point. When I was turning to make a left, I felt myself being stopped by something that was pushing against my chest. I moved my phone away and saw a bright red feather on my chest.

"You're going the wrong way, chickadee."

Oh no.

"Oh yes," Hawks chuckled amusingly. "You didn't think I was actually going to leave you alone, did you?"

"I was hoping you did," I admitted.

With a heavy sigh later, I kept on walking forward, hoping that he would stop following me. But there was footsteps behind me, and Hawks just humming to himself. Did I pick up a injured bird without me knowing? Is that why he is attached to me know? Oh god. Am I stuck with him now? We were nearing a park and I could hear kids screaming and laughing with each other. A little girl screamed and I stopped dead in my tracks I thought that she was hurt, but when I looked towards the girl, she was pointing at us.

"I get that all the time," Hawks whispered in my ear, making me jump. "I have fans of all ages. Don't worry, baby bird. I'll handle it."

Hawks flew towards and landed perfectly near the water fountain. The little girl that screamed started to run towards him. He crouched to get to her eye level, ready to give her a hug. When the little girl approached him, I can immediately tell that Hawks was giving her that same, old wide grin.

"Ayo." His voice was filled with such a cheery attitude.

The little girl tilted her head, looking at him confused. "I don't know who you are."

At that moment, his wings drooped and I can just imagine an arrow piercing his heart. I tried my best to stifle a laugh, but I knees that Hawks could hear me. The little girl paid no attention to him and skipped her way towards me. When she finally stood in front of me, she looked up and had the cutest starstrucked face.

"Hi," I gently greeted while crouching down to be at her eye level. "What's your name?"

This was always my favourite part of being a hero: talking to the little kids who look up at you. Both literally and metaphorically.

"Hanako. My name is Hanako."

"Hanako?" She nodded. "Wanna know a secret?" She nodded vigorously. I whispered in her ear, "my last name also starts with Hana, so we're both flowers."

When I pulled back, Hanako had the brightest smile in the world and it melted my heart. She looked like she was told the best news in her life.

"I saw you on tv! With this really, really, big hero," she opened her arms wide. "And I saw you. And I was so happy. Because, because," Hanako took a deep breath, "you're so pretty and I wanna be like you when I get older."

My heart fluttered in my chest. "Thank you, Hanako. That means so much to me." This is sooo cute. Don't fucking cry, Y/N. At least wait until you get home.

Then she pointed to my head and asked me the same question that I've heard all my life.

"Are those real?"

I nodded. "And do you wanna see something cool?"

"Yes!" Hanako screamed so loud that it would make Present Mic jealous.

I plucked a grey petal and gently blew a small air current towards Hanako. She was giggling none stop until the petal disintegrated in my hand, stopping the air current. Hanako blinked a few times and pointed at my flowers again.

"Can I water them, please?" Her hands were clapped together, as if she was pleading for me to say yes.

"Sprout, that's not really how..." I trailed off when I noticed her expression fall. I sighed internally then nodded my head. "Yes, Hanako, you can water them."

Hanako squealed and told me that she'll be right back. She turned out and ran towards the opposite side of the playground, stopping in front of a lady, who I suspect was her mom. Hawks finally joined me after getting over the shock of not being recognised, and I couldn't help myself from poking fun at him.

"So, you get that a lot, huh?" I tried to hide the amusement in my voice. "She was such a big fan of yours."

I felt myself being pulled back and my butt landed on the sidewalk. I looked up at Hawks and saw him looking away, while whistling nonchalant, while failing to hide his smile. Hanako returned, but her attention was to Hawks.

"Is that your boyfriend?"

Wait, what?

"No!" "Not yet." Hawks and I said at the same time, confusing Hanako.

Why the fuck did he say not yet?!

"S-so," I stuttered out and I can just fucking tell that Hawks was smirking and being so proud of himself. "Hanako, if you will."

I tilted my head forward and not even a second later, lukewarm water was poured on my head. Hanako's hands gently patted me on the head and I looked up at her, giving her a smile. She just radiated happiness and my heart just couldn't handle the cuteness anymore. I plucked a petal and gave it to Hanako. The look on her face was priceless. She was so overjoyed and held it so gently in her hands. Before she left, Hanako gave me a small kiss on the cheek and skipped her way back to her mom.

"Come on, bird brain," I said while getting up. "Lets go."

"So, chickadee," Hawks quickly followed me as I started to walk, "what's with the sudden change of heart?"

"Honestly," I plucked a grey petal. This time, there was a bit of resistant, but I ignored it. I activated it and let it blow an air stream at my head, drying my wet hair. "I just wanna go home and just don't feel like walking around the city until I find my apartment."

Hawks flew a bit until he was in front of me. He turned around and started to walk backwards. "We're going to your apartment?" He lifted his glasses up and stopped right in front of me. I was going to walk around him, but his wing stopped me. Out of nowhere, Hawks pulled me towards his chest and whispered in my ear, "if you wanted to get me in bed, you could have just asked. I would have said yes."
