Running Away

Hey!

Another drama-filled chapter, good fun to be had!

Let's get back to it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Texas stood there, shocked at what she had just heard. She was staring pale-faced at the Vulpo medic that had just told her the news that had shifted her world forever.

Sussurro, for her part, looked awkwardly at the Lupo, she may be a medic, but this was the first time she had to tell someone they were pregnant. Texas was staring at her or through her; Sussurro wasn't sure.

The Vulpo medic was happy for Texas, but the reaction she was getting from the Lupo suggested she was still trying to understand what Sussurro had said or was freaking out, or both.

'What was she supposed to say!?' Sussurro thought desperately; she was not trained for this.

Texas was known to be one of the calmest and most level-headed operators Rhodes Island had, but it didn't take a genius to see that Texas was on the verge of a mental breakdown.

Usually, Silence or Saria would be around to handle such delicate matters. Not that pregnancy was a common scenario on Rhodes Island. Even Ansel would have been a welcome sight to aid her, but it's all up to Sussurro.

"Umm, A-hem," Sussurro cleared her throat, trying to catch Texas's attention or show a hint that she was listening to her. Instead, the only sign the medic received was deep breaths and twitching Lupo's ears.

"Ah, Umm, Miss Texas? I understand this is a lot to take in right now, but..."

"I'm pregnant?" Texas's eyes locked onto Sussurro, cutting her off mid-sentence.

"Y-Yes," Sussurro replied sheepishly, holding the datapad in front of her as if it would protect her.

Texas continued staring through her, making the small Vulpo fidget uncomfortably.

"... I see" Texas nodded as if it had finally sunk in and raised a shaky hand to pull out a pocky, putting one of her chocolate treats in her mouth and staring at the floor, sighing.

"Y-You see?" Sussurro asked in confusion.

"What happens now?" Texas said calmly, looking back up at Sussurro, ignoring her confused look.

"...Well, in about four weeks, you'll need to have an Ultrasound to determine the due date and determine its gestational age," Sussurro explained.

"..." Texas looked at her with an emotionless mask and said nothing, making the Vulpo nervous.

"Y-You wont be able to hide this for very long, Miss Texas... for you and the child's safety, you will need the Ultrasounds."  Sussurro carried on.

Texas continued to stare at the Vulpo blankly, Texas was calm and relaxed but only on the outside. On the inside, however, she screamed, uncertain if it was screaming in shock, joy or fear.

She was pregnant.

The uneasy feeling she had explained everything now. She could no longer deny the truth, and that fact changed everything for her, all with those three words.

What was she supposed to do now? Reveal it to everyone back in Logistics? What would they all say? What would Rhodes Island say?

What would Farsight say?

How would she raise a child... in a world as messed up as Terra? Would her unborn child have to fight for survival every day, and would they be roped into crime like she was back then?

Catch Oripathy young and be treated like scum?

Her past would catch up to her one day, and if she had a child with her, What then...

She needed Farsight to hold her and tell her everything was okay, that he had a plan. In Texas's mind, nothing else would do, but Farsight was not here. He had not contacted her or, in her currently, emotionally panicked state, made any effort to meet her again.

Texas started hyperventilating and did only what her instincts told her to do.

Run.

"M-miss Texas!?" Sussurro was caught off guard when the Lupo rushed forward and pushed her out the way and out of the room without so much as a word, the poor Vulpo falling to the floor with an "Oof!"

"Miss Texas! Wait!" Sussurro shouted as she scrambled up from the floor and followed Texas out of the room but found the medical wing empty. Texas was fast!

Sussurro ceased attempting to chase Texas when she realised the Lupo was far from the medical wing. The Sussurro decided to sit on an available chair in the hallway and wring her hands nervously.

Sussurro was conflicted. What was she supposed to do? It was evident that Texas didn't want anyone to know, but that look she gave before running was not someone calm and relaxed, far from it!

She had to tell someone Texas was vulnerable, as she was a medical operator; it was her duty to inform someone that Miss Texas was possibly in danger and confused.

Sussurro stood up with conviction, raced out of the Medical wing, and looked for Dr Silence.

"Okaaay?" Exusiai cursed in her mind at Texas for leaving her in this room.

What was Kal'tsit's problem!?

"So I think you should be honest with me, yes?" Kal'tsit stared coldly at the increasingly annoyed Exusiai.

Everyone else in this 'meeting' sat there awkwardly, watching the back and forth between the Sankta and Lynx.

"What Texas does in her spare time is not my business; as Texas said, it is not yours either!" Exusiai strained to smile at Kal'tsit, but everyone in the room could see that the hyperactive Sankta was starting to get pissed off.

Exusiai took a deep breath and exhaled, putting her elbows on the table before her and clasping her hands together as if to pray. She turned her head slightly and smiled at Kal'tsit, one of her eyes hidden behind her fringe and hands.

It looks like even the pie-loving angel can be pushed too far. Her wings and halo had dimmed considerably, and the once beautiful smile started straightening.

"But you do know something...?" Kal'tsit pressed.

Exusiai chuckled behind her clasped hands. "Maybe I do, but then again, Maybe I don't. Heh, All I know is that Farsight visited us because he was looking for someone and decided to stay and catch up... I don't see anything wrong with that."

'Best not to mention to this bossy Lynx that Texas and Farsight f*cked or that I recorded it,' Exusiai thought.

"And there is nothing wrong with that!" Nearl announced quickly, repeatedly cutting off Kal'tsit's attempt at asking the same questions.

"Kal'tsit, Please stop this poor behaviour" Silence glared at her superior, who was still staring at Exusiai.

"I just want to know the facts before-" Kal'tsit never got to finish.

"Facts!?"  Exusiai growled behind her diminishing smile. Everyone stared at the Sankta in surprise, never seeing Exusiai snap at any of them before.

"You want facts, DR Kal'tsit? Fine, I'll give you some facts..." Exusiai started.

"Oh! you don't need to do that, Miss Exusiai!" Amiya fidgeted in her seat while trying to stop the Sankta from ranting.

"I think I do, Amiya... The facts are simple... Kal'tsit won't let go of her Ex-Husband! The idea of Farsight spending time with another woman makes her seeth in, you guessed it! Jealousy!!" Exusiai mockingly smiled at Kal'tsit.

Everyone in the room guessed even the happy-go-lucky Exusiai could have a mean streak as they sat there dumbfounded as their sweet Exusiai ripped into a gobsmacked Kal'tsit.

"Maybe he did do something! But, hey... you never know. He might have screwed Texas into the mattress!" Exusiai continued to mock Kal'tsit, rubbing salt in her open wounds.

"Exusiai, stop!" Amiya shouted in a pleading tone.

Kal'tsit had stood up slowly from her seat at the other end of the table and glared hatefully at Exusiai, a mocking smile meeting a cold, hateful stare.

Without warning, Mon3tr appeared and loomed over Kal'tsit to the point of almost concealing the furious Lynx with its body. Kal'tsit's eyes had dimmed considerably.

Everyone seated at the table stood quickly and moved against the wall to escape Kal'tsit and Mon3tr's wrath, apart from Nearl, who had drawn her shield and moved to stand before Exusiai to protect her.

Mon3tr's large razer sharp appendages speared into the table, crushing it thoroughly, making everyone back up further in shock, apart from Exusiai, who continues to stare at Kal'tsit unflinchingly.

"DR Kal'tsit! Stop this madness!" Nearl shouted.

In a surprising act, Blaze came to stand before Exusiai with Nearl.

"This isn't cool, boss!" Blaze announced.

Amiya looked between both sides in alarm. How was she going to choose a side if they started fighting?

Silence, Ptilopsis and Closure stood against the wall and silently observed the rising tension.

Warfarin was trying to calm Kal'tsit down and failing, cursing Amiya for wanting Kal'tsit to come to this meeting more and more.

Exusiai and Kal'tsit continued to have a staring match, both waiting for the other to say or do something, when the door flew open with a bang and a worried Sussurro rushed in.

Sussurro froze at seeing Mon3tr in the room as it eyed her like a piece of meat.

Everyone stared at the Vulpo in surprise, not expecting her to arrive here.

"Sussurro?" Silence asked from her position by the wall.

"Dr Silence! Operator Texas has run away!" Sussurro exclaimed loudly. Hating herself for revealing Texas's vulnerability to many people. Hoping Texas would forgive her but chose not to announce her pregnancy.

What Sussurro said catches Exuxiai's attention. "Run away?"

"She got some news and didn't handle it well, so she ran... Noir Corne said she was seen in the Garage and drove away without permission or speaking to anyone." Sussurro announced to the group, surprising them.

Texas isn't the type to run away without cause. So it must be something serious.

Exusiai stared back at Kal'tsit angrily, her pretty smile twisted into an ugly snarl.

Her hands brought her Kriss Vector into a ready stance.

"What have you done to Texas to make her run!?"

Sussurro stared at Exusiai in confusion. Why did she think Rhodes Island is responsible for Texas running?

If only the short Sussurro noticed the tension in the room...

Done!

I'm getting better at drama and starting to enjoy writing it.

Writing already well-established characters and giving them another layer of emotion is rather interesting. Of course, we all know how calm Texas is, but the scenarios I'm putting in this story push if they would still be that way.

Would Texas still be calm if she found out if she was pregnant, or would insecurities come forth? It's fascinating stuff.

Also, how I've made Exusiai go from really happy and chirpy to annoyed and spitful against Kal'tsit, I like the idea of a Sankta's visage twisting into an ugly look when they're furious, like some form of a fallen spiteful angel.
