Ride Of The Valkyries

Hey!

Yes, I was listening to Ride of the Valkyries from apocalypse now while writing this. No regrets.

Let us get to it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Armed forces of the Farsight Enclave were fighting from street to street, building to building. Reunion soldiers were fighting desperately with everything they had. Across multiple city blocks, Green soldiers smashed into and gunned down desperate white masked soldiers of Reunion.

In this city's rubble and skeletal remains, Soldiers on both sides attempted to kill each other with unrefined hate. Most Reunion soldiers were gunned down and beaten to the floor with bayonets, helmets, combat knives or bricks from the ground-the sounds of death and fighting all around.

Many Reunion Soldiers with swords and machetes lunged at Enclave forces, and soon Individual fights broke out across the uneven rubble-covered ground with dodges and parries, thrusts and swings. Some Unfortunate Enclave soldiers are struck and fall to the floor to join the growing number of bodies.

An Enclave Sergeant pulled his sword out of the throat of a gurgling shielded Reunion soldier and pushed him away. He looked around, seeing one of his soldiers wrestling with a Reunion Junkman on the floor and losing. The Sergeant pulls out his combat knife before stabbing the Junkman in the back multiple times, making him slump onto the struggling Enclave solder beneath.

"Thanks, Sergeant!" The muffled voice of the Cautus female soldier under the dead Junkman calls.

The Sergeant rolls his eyes and moves on, Parrying the clumsy strike of a machete aimed for him before counter-attacking and cutting the Reunion thug's arm off. Making the attacker scream in pain, only to go quiet when the Sergeant swings his sword and decapitates him.

"Look at them, run! Ahahaha!" A random Durin soldier shouts, making everyone look and mock the running Reunion forces.

"Sergeant!, Headquarters on the radio!" A Lung radioman rushes over, holding out the headset. The man in question grabs the headset and replies.

"Sergeant Wulf here." His gruff voice sounded tired. Looking around at the final resistance of Reunion that had not run, they were being ganged up on by his soldiers and killed what remained.

"The city has almost fallen! Reunion is on the run back to the Control tower in the city centre." A deep voice sounded.

"Reunion forces in this area must have received the order as they have turned tail and run," Sergeant states.

"Ha! Bulldozer tanks have already cleared the main street leading to the city centre. Other squads will handle any pockets of resistance. I want you to join the main collum heading for the central tower; Reunion will put up their final stand there; it's time to end this!" Commands shout enthusiastically.

"Yes, Command!" The Sergeant gives back the radio and gathers his squad to head out.

-

The sound of thousands of steps thundered down the bombed-out street that stretched for what seemed miles. Bulldozer tanks sat on either side of the road motionless after they had completed their work. Dozens of unseen squads were still searching the city's ruins, flushing out any Reunion attempting to resist or was hiding. Gunshots could be heard all around them as stragglers were picked off.

All soldiers and Officers of the Enclave could only look in fascination at the tower in the distance. After so much destruction and fire, the sky had turned cloudy and dark. The building in the distance flashed orange and yellow as explosions from soldiers, tanks, and artillery attacked the final stronghold of Reunion.

Distinctive engine sounds could be heard above them as many heads looked over their shoulders and saw many Valkyrie gunships moving over the city towards the tower.

Many look on in amazement as dozens of Valkyries start grouping in the sky above them, waiting for a command to attack.

The soldiers continue marching forward to the sounds of battle in the close distance, many looking to the side at the sight of Reunion, that had surrendered. Reunion soldiers lined up against the bombed-out buildings, hands bound and masks removed from their faces. Many looking down is a shame and defeat. Some stared unwaveringly at the Enclave soldiers with hate in their eyes.

"Talulah will burn you tratiors! Keep walking... Walk to your death! Ahaha," A Breaker Leader shouted with zeal as hundreds of eyes marched by him with glaring hostility. So many in the Enclave have suffered at the hands of Reunion.

"Ugh!"

The Breaker Leader fell to the ground gripping the back of his head when an Enclave soldier that was guarding him smacked him with the stock of his rifle. "Shut up, creep!"

"There is no need for that. He surrendered; his mouth can't harm you," A pained shallow voice from the surrendered Reunion called.

The Enclave Guard turned to look at the speaker, and he noticed a rather large man amongst the much smaller Reunion soldiers; he knew by the markings which group he belonged to and decided to inform the Seneschal.

Within a few minutes of contact, the Seneschal and his Command staff could be seen coming down the crowded street of marching soldiers until he was nearby. The Seneschal seemed fond of the tanks he deployed while riding on top of one.

"Seneschal! Here!" One of the Officers next to the Enclave guards shouted over the marching feet and engines still above.

Seneschal had the Tank disconnect from the column, stepped off the mighty machine, and stood before some of his men who said they found someone important.

"Well, Guardsman? You said you found a high-value target among the prisoners?" Seneschal asks, curious.

"Yes, sir!" The Guard led the Division leader and the Officer's entourage to a specific prisoner. Enclave soldiers marching by looked over to see what had piqued the interest of their leader.

Seneschal looked inquisitively at the wounded man in question before speaking. "Patriot's Guerrilla?"

Whispers broke out amongst the Officers.

The Reunion soldier who followed Patriot looked unflinchingly at Seneschal before giving a pained chuckle. "I am that, yes... Do... Ah!.. do I get special treatment because of it? How about torture... I'm sure you think I have the info you need."

"Tapped communications made it clear Patriot and his group were North of Chernobog. So why are you South?" Seneschal asks rather politely; even enemies can show respect.

"*Snort* I didn't run away like a coward if that's what you hoped for. Patriot was told another leader, W, would support us and her mercenaries, but they never showed. So I was sent to discover their fate." The loyal Sarkaz man of Patriot's Guerrillas chuckled before he continued. "Bitch abandoned us all! Wraith scouts spotted the traitorous coward and her cohort vanishing out of the city!" He shouts at Seneschal, making the Officers around the man glared at the wounded Reunion member.

"And you're giving us this information; why?" Seneschal asks, not bothered by the angry prisoner.

The prisoner gave the Seneschal the 'are you serious look' before laughing. "Hahaha! Because that traitorous nutjob has slipped past your incompetent soldiers and is now free, telling you the truth means you will hunt her down... so go and find her!"

Officers and passing soldiers glared at the prisoner for the insult.

"No, we won't hunt her..." Seneschal smirks.

"Why?!" The prisoner shouted as if insulted.

"The men and women of my Division, under my command, have no interest in interfering with the prey of the Howling Banshees." Seneschal shudders at the thought of what Agenta had created, so he walks away, ignoring the indignant shouts of the prisoner as he is dragged back to the other prisoners.

Back with the marching Collum of Enclave soldiers, the Chernobog control tower has gotten closer and closer to the point it was looming over them all. Sounds of battle had gotten louder and more desperate as Reunion tried vainly to stop the advance.

The marching men and women try to take their minds off the final battle they are actively walking towards. Trying not to think of the distant explosions, screams and gunfire as the ground shakes under them, not just caused by their feet.

"Hey! I call dibs on a Reunion Leader mask!" A Lupo soldier informs all the other marching soldiers around him.

"Reunion crossbow is mine!" Shouts another.

"I want a Reunion flag!" A Zalak sniper called.

"Enough!" A female Caprinae Officer shouts. "The flag is mine." She smiles.

The column of soldiers laughs at the Pouting Zalak sniper.

"Look!" A voice further down the collum behind them shouts as possibly dozens of engines pass overhead among the darkened clouds. Thousands of eyes turned skyward in wonder at the beautiful but disturbing sight. A moment none of them will ever forget.

A Hundred Valkries had gathered in the sky further back and had now been given the order to attack in mass. The Valkyries zoomed over everyone's heads and closed in on the final stronghold of their enemy. Engines were roaring, and weapons systems were locking on. The Valkyrie's dark green bodies are almost invisible in a shadowed backdrop.

Without warning, the eyes of every person in the city, Enclave and Reunion, saw the radiant lights of hundreds of rockets launched, leaving a trail behind them and brightening the sky. All eyes followed the rockets as they soared across the sky with only one purpose. Death.

What must the final Reunion stronghold think seeing such a formidable sight? All they had done and achieved in this city against Ursus, and now they stand on the brink of destruction. How many of them were about to be slaughtered with nothing but regret on their minds?

One thing was for sure. Terra would know of this event and record it in history as the moment when the final Reunion holdout in the centre of Chernobog came face to face with what would soon be called.

'Ride of the Valkyries.'

Done!

Another fun chapter.

There will be one more chapter regarding the Chernobog battle and its conclusion. Then I will begin the romance and Lungmen arc. There will be sections of Chernobog regarding its reconstruction etc., but we will cross that bridge once we get there.

Some people have asked about Penguine Logistics and the Reunion Leaders in Lungmen. All I can say is I have not forgotten about any of them. They are the next Arc. But, patience, all will be clear soon enough.

Thanks for everything!
