Know Your 'Enemy'

Hey,

Thanks for the support. I do appreciate it.

Let us go!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Five black Trucks identical to the one that brought Y/n to the base could be seen driving through the snowy landscape in a tight convoy. Distant mountain faces could be seen barely through the snowy haze making their way back to the base. They have fresh recruits; Agenta and Mal-Mal would be pleased! They were 10 minutes from their base before it came into view.

Armed guards, veteran fighters and recruits sat together in their trucks, and there was no uniform or style. Many that worked for Agenta and Mal-Mal questioned why they had no identity, no uniforms, No name, and No official leader. Nothing was ever official.

To these questions, Agenta had given everyone the same answer. 'We are waiting.'

Why were they waiting? The Cautus Officer of the convoy asked himself. When he first joined, he expected far more than what was given. Don't get him wrong, everything was impressive, but they had no real purpose or goal. He was sent to gather people to join them, and they all sit in this admittedly one-of-a-kind base, training and waiting for something.

"Ugh? Sir," A disturbed voice said from behind his seat.

Breaking out of his thoughts, the Cautus Officer of the recruitment division that Agenta appointed for this specific recruitment mission turned to his radio operator, which was placed behind the two front seats of the Truck.

"Speak Operator," The Cautus Officer replied, expecting an update on arrival time, turning back to look out the front window, believing they were there.

When the Officer didn't get an immediate response, he turned back to the Operator handling the extensive communication set. When he saw the Operator with large pair of headphones on adjusting something on his device with a serious amount of concentration, He knew something was wrong. His large rabbit ears went rigid, causing them to smack the ceiling of the Truck. The Cautus could see the colour drain from the Operator with each passing second.

Finally, the Operator breaks concentration and looks at the Officer with a concerned look before replying.

"Sir, something is wrong, we were cleared to approach the base, but then there was shouting followed by static."

Everyone in the Truck could hear the conversation, and all eyes turned to the Operator in question.

"Get me a signal now! Go to emergency channels if you have to," The Officer demanded, causing the Operator to mess with his equipment further.

The Officer looked past the Operator and directed his attention to all the passengers still watching them. "Prepare yourselves; we're almost there." He was about to say more when the Operator called out again.

"Sir! you need to hear this!" The Operator looks up from his equipment in a panic.

The Cautus Officer looked back at him and replied. "Put it on speaker for all five Trucks."

The Operator did so with a shaky hand, and everyone in all five Trucks heard it.

'We have lost contact with multiple response teams in medical wards 001 to 003, and the ward division themselves have gone silent!"

*Static*

'Gunfire detected throughout multiple sectors of the base! Response teams returning fire!"

*Static*

Nothing more would come, there was nothing more than static, and the Operator couldn't find any more signals. Dread filled the five Trucks as everyone was shocked to the core. Finally, the Officer shook off his shocked look and yanked the intercom from the driver's side to address all vehicles in the convoy.

"Listen up! You all heard it. It's time for us to step up and for every one of us to fight! Guards and veterans will take the lead; recruits will stay with the Vehicles and protect them. Follow my lead, and we will be fine!"

All those with any experience with combat had already prepared themselves for an upcoming battle with an unknown enemy. The recruits attempted to follow their example but were clumsy and had a clear look of fear.

All five Trucks had found themselves side by side with enough space to manoeuvre if they came under any attack. Engines roared as they pushed up a slight incline that would look over their base. All passengers held their weapons tightly. Some were muttering, but all were ready to jump out at the command to engage their aggressors. The engine Roars were drowned out by the Officer talking down the intercom again.

"We will charge through their assault! Get as close as we can to the entrance and then disembark. After that, we will fight at the command centre and regroup with Lady Agenta! No petty assault will put her down," He shouts with conviction.

"Yes, sir!" Everyone shouts, some louder than others.

"10 seconds," The driver calls.

All five trucks summit the incline and reach a momentary level before charging downhill to the base's entrance and ramming all fools that stood in their way.

Well, that was the plan. Only for all five Trucks to stop at the top of the incline and look down at the base in confusion through their armoured windows or vision slits.

Something was wrong, the Cautus Officer thought. There was no damage or signs of battle. Everything was exactly like it was when they left, apart from one thing.

All external defensive weapons were protruding from their once-concealed armoured covers. Every gun was active; Some sat waiting while others moved from side to side, looking for a target but finding none.

The driver looked at him in fear, gripping his steering wheel tight. "Could it be possible, Sir, that we have lost control of the base and whoever has attacked has activated the external defences?"

The question made everyone stiffen and look at each other in horror. The weapons Mal-Mal invented were beyond lethal; Terra has yet to know their existence. If what the driver said were true, the moment they charged down the hill, multiple Plasma cannons, railguns and many other weapons would have annihilated them instantly.

The Officer thought for a few seconds before shaking his head. "No; We are well within the range of the base defences. We would have been dead the moment the base could visualize us." A sigh of relief left everyone's lips.

"Enough of this! Move Forward," The Officer commanded. All trucks continued to the front entrance of the base at a more sedate and cautious approach. Fear gripped everyone as they stared down a massive plasma cannon that had locked onto them from above and followed their movement like a predator stalking its prey.

They finally reached the entrance only to see nobody. There should be plenty of patrols and guards. All posts had been abandoned, it seemed.

"Stop here. We go on foot now," The Officer stated. Causing everyone to nod grimly. Everyone had disembarked the Trucks within a few moments and gathered around the Officer. Those with firearms kept watch around them for any movement.

"We will make our way to the command centre; we must find Lady Agetna and Lady Mal-Mal. Everything else is secondary, Understood?"

"Yes, Sir," Everyone acknowledged.

They moved quickly into the massive superstructure without resistance but found no support. Weapons were grasped tightly, and firearms were aimed around every corner, finding no targets.

They all pushed into a new corridor to find it in a state of chaos; furniture and all kinds of boxes had been dragged into the hallway and tipped over to be used for a crude form of cover, and bullet holes were riddled in every wall. Confirming to the cautious recruitment group that a battle had occurred here. They had made a stand here but against who?

The Officer put his hand up, stopping the group in their tracks, weapons still ready. One of the recruits whispered.

"Sir, What's wrong?"

"No blood, No bodies, Nothing" The Officer looked around, making everyone look as well, confirming what he said-causing even more confusion.

Suddenly his large rabbit ears perked up, hearing faint sounds of gunshots. "I hear gunshots; quickly, let's move!" The Officer moves quickly and cautiously down many corridors, many showing signs of battle but still no blood or action. Thoughts of the command centre leave his mind.

They are getting closer to the sounds coming from one of the massive hangers, which can contain thousands of people if needed and hundreds of war machines. Then, finally, they come close to a sizeable closed maintenance door, one of the hundreds of such doors, hinting at the scale of the hanger beyond.

"Through here! Sir!" One of the Sarkaz veterans that were with them stated and started opening the heavy door. All weapons aimed at the entrance expecting the worst. The Officer finally pulled out a standard 9mm pistol that all officers are issued for self-defence and looked at everyone with a grim expression.

As the large metal door was pulled open, the sounds of shouting and gunfire rang in their ears. They all followed the Officer into the vast room, astonished and confused at what they saw. When they all entered the room, their jaws dropped in shock.

Inside the hanger had to be most, if not all, of the population of this base. They had split the massive hangar in two with a makeshift barricade of vehicles, crates and anything they could find. All of them were crouching or hiding behind one side and on different levels of the barricade. They were rising in and out of cover to unleash as many bullets downrange to their enemies on the other side of the hanger. They had even pulled in some older big guns to the barricade to support.

None had seen so much firepower unleashed In such a manner before. The cacophony of gunfire from small arms to large calibre field guns they had desperately pulled into the room for support and shouting officers issuing commands or words of encouragement across the expanse of the barricade made it practically impossible to speak to his group without screaming.

But what of their enemy that had caused such sheer desperation from their colleagues? The group wanted to help, but looking at the 'Enemy' prevented them from ever moving to help.

Only one thing was on their minds. What the heck were they shooting at?! They were shooting at the hanger's distant back wall, causing severe damage. They were shooting at nothing. Fortunately, no casualties could be seen on their side, so the wall wasn't fighting back.

Amidst the Chaos, The Cautus Officer spots none other than the Seneschal himself in the centre of it all at the highest position of the barricade with a large sword drawn, pointing it at the 'enemy' while shouting to all around him how they were winning?!

The Officer was flinching excessively at all the noise penetrating his rabbit ears but gesturing for his group to follow him to the Seneschal. They pushed through, rushing workers, guards and employees but did not acknowledge their existence, making them even more confused.

The smooth Hanger floor was littered with spent shell casings of many calibres and ammo boxes. The amount of ammunition they had wasted would surely blow a hole in Agenta's wallet. This will cost millions to replenish. Their feet could barely grip the floor with how many spent shell casings there were.

The Cautus Officer and his group had finally got close to the Seneschal, who was still shouting out orders.

"Seneschal!" He shouted but got no reply.

"Sir, Seneschal, please!" He pleaded with the Seneschal, but still nothing, so he decided to step in front of the Old Sarkaz man and got a good look at him. He was very pale, and his eyes were glazed. What was going on?

The Seneschal suddenly took notice of the Cautus with a happy grin and laughed, "Hahaha, reinforcements at last! Join us, lad. We will win the day."

"Seneschal, What's happening?! Why are you attacking" The Officer screams over the sounds of gunfire.

The Seneschal looked confused for a second before continuing and pointing at the 'enemy' They have been trying to take over the base, lad! Help us defeat them."

"There's nobody there, Seneschal! You're shooting at nothing" He continues to scream out at him.

"What?" Seneschal looks over the barricade in confusion, noticing nothing but a severely damaged hanger. Then, the glaze in his eyes starts fading as he shakes his head in pain. After a few moments, he looks back at the Cautus in shock and around in horror at what is happening.

The Seneschal stands up as high as possible on shaky legs and thunders as loud as he can.

"Hold Fire, Hold Fire!"

All those on the barricade look at him glazed before they start shaking their heads in pain, followed by looking around in confusion and shock. What were they doing? All they remembered was the call to Battlestations and then nothing?

Once again, the Seneschal, in worry, call out, forcing everyone to look around, "Where is Lady Agenta? Where is Lady Mal-Mal!"

"Where are the Sankta?" Another voice called out, Making everyone look again.

The Seneschal, Cautus Officer and the thousand-plus people of this base could only look around in dismay and exhaustion at the damage and think about the whereabouts of their currently missing leaders.

Done!

Phew, that was interesting to write.

The Cautus Officer with no actual name mentioned, which was planned. Showing a small arc of a side character that wasn't always in the view of Agenta or Mal-Mal.

Until Y/n comes and takes centre stage.

Fighting scenes or combat is still new to me, so please be patient. I am trying,

Also, someone asked me if I would make this mature and add smut. Now I like Texas or Lappland smut as much as the next person, but I am not at the level of confidence, maybe, in a story or two. So I might come back to this and make separate 18+ chapters. But until then, All I can say to that person and everyone else.
