Enemy Of My Enemy

Hey

I am at work Saturday and Sunday, so the next chapter will be early Monday morning or Monday afternoon.

Thanks for the support!

Word had spread quickly among the Reunion forces in Chernobog about the failed attempt to reinforce the brothers and sisters in Lungmen. As a result, their forces were destroyed, and Talulah and the others kept the details a secret. They did not want to start a panic. But thanks to the destruction of their force, many had lost friends and companions and were itching to get revenge on the approaching forces.

Reunion knew something was wrong when they were ordered to fortify the city, Buildings had been gutted, and everything from inside was pulled out to make city-wide barricades. The unused buildings were booby-trapped, and trenches and fortified shelters were created in critical locations.

They may take the city, but they would pay for every step. Reunion was geared up and prepared for a siege. They may have lost two thousand, but they had at least 16 thousand in the city. Luck was also on their side as they had found a stash of Laterano firearms: smugglers, perhaps or paranoid government officials.

"Lady Talulah, Forces spotted to the North! They're here," One of her communication soldiers shouted.

"North?" Talulah snaps out as she turns around to her soldier.

"Um? Yes, my lady."

"Our enemy is coming from the southeast! Not North!, Who is coming from North!" Talulah shouts.

"I-I don't know, my lady. I will try and find out" He backs off to continue listening.

Who is coming from the North? Had they been encircled already? No, they couldn't have been. Talulah was pacing around, trying to think. Ursus maybe? No, it couldn't be.

"My lady!" The same soldier calls out. "Ursus! Ursus soldiers are coming."

"What?! How many?" Talulah barks to the cowering soldier.

"One of lady Frostnova's Yeti squadron on patrol outside the city reports about seven thousand." The soldier's face was hidden, but everyone could feel the surprise.

"Nine thousand difference, then... We can win this easily," Talulah tried to formulate a plan.

A few miles outside Chernobog to its North, thousands of soldiers in winter clothes could be seen marching at pace. They have been recruiting for weeks since the fall of Chernobog was made public. Ursus had deployed many soldiers, but most were still recruits. They hoped seeing so many soldiers would demoralize Reunion, who was watching them from the city.

"Forward!" A large Ursus man with a brown beard, bear ears and an ornate uniform shouted among the ranks of Ursus soldiers, their mass of heavy footfalls echoing in the distance. It would indeed cause fear to their enemies.

It was not long before thousands of Ursus soldiers were within a few dozen meters of the city. Reunion could be seen standing over barricades and peeking out windows at them from across the city skyline. Likewise, the Reunion soldiers could see thousands of Ursus soldiers standing there waiting for an order to attack.

"Sir! scouts have returned. They have fortified the city." One of the retinue soldiers of the Ursus General reported.

"And numbers?" The General demand.

"A few thousand at least. But they have the fortified position to negate our numbers." The Ursus soldier reports. The General raises himself high so that many soldiers can see him.

"THESE INFECTED SCUM! LOOK AT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE TO THIS PROUD CITY OF URSUS!" The General shouts so many around can hear.

"LOOK, MEN! LOOK AT ONE OF OUR GREAT CITIES! IT IS INFESTED WITH DIRTY, INFECTED RATS THAT SLAUGHTERED OUR PEOPLE IN COLD BLOOD!" The rows of soldiers staring at the city start shouting insults at Reunion

"Scum!"

"Rats!"

"Murderers!"

"Savages!"

The General grinned at the scene. "WE WILL TAKE CHERNOBOG BACK AND WIPE THIS PLACE CLEAN OF THEIR FILTH! WHO IS WITH ME" The general raises an ornate Saber into the air as he shouts out to his soldiers. His soldiers raise their weapons and cheer for the General, most still throwing insults to the Reunion, who are watching them quietly.

"CHARGE!" The General commands as he and his men move ahead to clear the city of Reunion.

Patriot walks forward with his soldiers, the Patriots Gurellias behind him, closing in on one of the Barricades to the North. Nothing was said among his troops. When they turn the final corner, the Barricade comes into view. The first thing Patriot sees is the remaining Reunion soldiers guarding this Barricade being cut down by Ursus soldiers. The attackers start pulling the Barricade apart, allowing more soldiers to flow through.

"Follow me," Patriots calls out as he moves swiftly to the Barricade.

Ursus soldiers that had come through see him coming and rush to him with weapons raised. Patriot lunges forward, piercing one unlucky soldier in the stomach before throwing him away. Both soldiers of Ursus and Reunion clash in the street as Patriot's guerillas attempt to plug up the damaged Barricade.

The skirmish was short-lived. Ursus soldiers lay dead or wounded around them. Only a few Reunion had fallen. Shouts and cries could be heard in other adjacent streets, other barricades had collapsed, and now Ursus and Reunion were fighting each other throughout the streets on the North side of Chernobog.

Many Reunion forces further into the city had to take cover as Ursus artillery started bombarding them randomly. The explosions began flashing across Chernobog, damaging buildings or sending soldiers flying in multiple directions. Ursus was causing more damage to the city than Reunion did.

Patriot could see the bombardment behind him further into the city before contacting his leader. "Talulah... Ursus soldiers have breached the outskirts of the city. We can hold it, but we may take unnecessary casualties."

"Hold... Patriot...For as...Lo... As you ca... I nee-" Talulah's broken voice cut off, catching Patriot off guard.

Dust and smoke of the bombardment had entered the air and mixed with the smoke from the raging fires across the city caused by the artillery, making the sky dark. Many Reunion not fighting in the North of the city were either taking cover, Attempting to put out fires or helping the wounded. However, most of the Reunion forces were still on the other side of the city, believing their main threat was coming from the south, not the North.

Reunion soldiers came from another street and relieved Patriot's forces as they climbed onto the mostly repaired Barricade the Ursus had damaged. Crossbowmen were already taking shots at Ursus soldiers that he couldn't see. Patriot was about to move on to another avenue to help when all lights in the now-darkened city flashed green before blowing, causing sparks.

The flash of green followed by darkness caused Reunion and Ursus forces to recoil in surprise. A power cut? Why did they flash green? Their questions went unanswered as the fighting across the outskirts continued. Then, finally, darkness gave way to the casting of Arts and explosions in the distance.

-

Back in the North, a large Ursus camp had been set up around a few field guns that Ursus used to bombard their city-leaving a bitter taste in their mouth. The crack of the field guns was constant in their bear ears. But, besides the artillery crews and a small defensive force, the camp was primarily empty.

Outside the camp, a lone Ursus crossbowman was walking around the perimeter, whistling to himself, when he heard a twig snap somewhere off in the large forest behind him, light barely breaking through the trees.

He rushed over to a large fallen tree and took cover behind it before pointing his crossbow over the rotting wood and into the dense foliage looking for a target. He pulled out a small radio from his winter jacket and was about to report when a bright sickly flash of green could be seen in the dark foliage coming towards him.

He was about to fire at the light source when a green energy beam hit him directly in the face, sending him onto his back. After that, his whole world went dark.

Done!

Smallish chapter to set up the next force. You can guess by the hints and final Gif what force is coming and who It belongs to.

This Farsight Enclave has become so ridiculously overpowered at this point. But I guess that's the point.

The story is meant to be a fun read, not a serious one. Enjoy the power fantasy.

Writing fight/battle scenes is still hard. Ngl

Thanks for the support and votes! It means a lot
