A Life Forever Changed

Hey!

A longer chapter to make up for the other, shorter one. Enjoy!

Let us get back to it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Tex?"

"*Sigh* what is it, Exusiai...." Texas sighed as Exusiai interrupted her concentration for the 6th time since leaving the safe house, Texas not taking her eyes off the road as she replied.

"You grip that steering wheel any tighter, you'll snap it off," Exusiai looked at Texas in worry as the Lupo had not relaxed even once after making their way towards Rhodes Island outside Lungmen.

Texas could see Exusiai stare at her in the corner of her eye but continued to stare at the road, which was relatively quiet due to still being early. Then, she pulled a pocky out of her jacket, put it in her mouth like a cigarette, and began to nibble on it slowly, savouring the chocolate taste.

"Your hand is shaking." Exusiai points out, making Texas sigh in annoyance. Her hands were shaking slightly. Nerves were getting the better of her.

"It's early, that's all. I didn't get much sleep..."

"*Snort* Uh huh..." Exusiai said disbelievingly, not buying the cheap excuse but decided to fold her arms and stare at the passing scenery before looking at her phone. If Texas wanted to play ignorant with her, then fine!

The rest of the car ride was somewhat awkward and quiet. Nothing more was said between the two.

"Dr Kal'tsit... I'm glad you're doing well" Amiya smiled at Kal'tsit as she entered the meeting room, happy to see her mentor back at work and not moping around in her room and office.

"Thank you, Amiya. Unfortunately, I must give the most credit for my recovery to Warfarin."

"I'm sitting right here..." Warfarin pouted at Kal'tsit for her quip.

"So you finally got over Dr Y/n?" Blaze asked casually with a grin but received only an eye twitch from the quiet Lynx that stared straight at her. Amiya came to sit next to Blaze and kicked her ankle hard.

*Gah!* What!?" Blaze turned to see Amiya glaring disapprovingly at her.

Blaze huffed in annoyance and spoke again. "I didn't mean anything by it! Just asking if she has got over a funk, that's all!"

Warfarin looked like she had just sucked a lemon. Dr Y/n, or Farsight, as he now called himself, was still a sore topic of Kal'tsit and the answer to Blaze's question.

Was no.

Kal'tsit was very much hung up on her husband. No matter what Warfarin did, Kal'tsit always had Farsight on her mind. Even now, Kal was doing very well at hiding it, but she was old and wise enough to know that Kal'tsit was seething and moping.

Everyone around the table, which Warfarin looked over very briefly, was Kal'tsit, Amiya, Blaze, Nearl, Silence, Closure and Ptilopsis, who decided to stand behind Silence.

Everyone stared at Blaze for asking a poorly thought-out question or at Kal'tsit in worry.

"Speaking of Farsight, were the reports true? Farsight was seen leaving the Penguin Logistics safe house?" Silence asked the group, very interested in meeting Farsight again. The technology he was showing off was putting everyone else to shame, so what possible avenues could their technology have in curing Oripathy?

"He...What?" Kal'tsit looked at her in barely concealed surprise.

Warfarin facepalmed. Was this meeting about Farsight? If so, then why did Amiya want Kal'tsit here!? Everyone could see the possibilities churning in Kal's mind, doubtful any of it was good.

"Ah! Yeah... Umm, he was seen leaving Emperors bar about three weeks ago. Amiya looked at her datapad in thought.

"Error! 3 weeks 1 day, 20 hours, 42 minutes, and 32 seconds." Ptilopsis interjected, making some of them jump as she shouted error.

"How long have we known about this?" Closure asked in surprise as well as the others. This was not something that would slip under their radar easily.

"3 weeks, 1 day, 15 hours, 10 minutes, 15 seconds," Ptilopsis spoke again in her monotone voice.

"That long!?" Nearl asked in bafflement.

"Why are we only now being told!?" Kal'tsit gritted out as she gripped her datapad tightly and stared at the coffee on the large table in sheer annoyance, deciding not to look at anyone.

"What would Dr Y/n- Apologies, I mean Farsight want with Penguin Logistics?" Silence asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Maybe a drink at the Emperor's bar? Heh," Blaze nodded to herself in satisfaction.

"Wasn't Farsight close to Texas before he left? He spoke to her the most when she was around, right?" Amiya looked around, not wanting to say those words out loud as it left a bad taste in her mouth. She tried hard to be there for him, but he still seemed happier around Texas.

*Growl*

Everyone looked at Kal'tsit, surprised by the loud growl escaping her throat.

"...Kal'tsit..." Warfarin stared hard at her old friend in a warning as Kal'tsit looked back coldly.

Everyone looked at each other awkwardly at the scene.

"Has anyone in the past three weeks attempted to contact Emperor or any of the other Logistics members about this?" Closure asked, breaking the stare-off between the two.

Everyone looked at Closure momentarily before shaking their heads, making her sigh.

"Actually..." Amiya started but trailed off.

"Amiya?" Nearl looked at her, wanting her to continue.

"Operators Texas and Exusiai should arrive at Rhodes in a few minutes," Amiya told the group.

"When they arrive, I want them here!" Kal'tsit ordered, leaving no room for question.

"I asked for them to come to Rhodes. I'll fetch them myself..." Amiya said before standing abruptly and retreating from the room, feeling all eyes on her back as she left.

~

"Are you done pouting?" Texas broke the silence as they entered the oversized Rhodes Island garage, seeing plenty of vehicles and operators around the area.

"Are you done being stubborn?" Exusiai huffed as she readied her stuff.

"Touche," Texas rolled her eyes as she drove deeper into the garage.

"Look, it's Amiya!" Exusiai pointed at the waiting Cautus as Texas parked as close as she could and switched off the engine but sat there staring at the wheel as Exusiai moved.

Exusiai wasted no time as she bolted out of the car with her bag and weapon over her shoulder, went over, and started chatting with Amiya. The smile on Amiya's face looked forced.

"Exusiai... What's Texas doing?" Amiya looked over Sankta's shoulder.

Exusiai, for her part, stopped talking and looked back at what Amiya was looking at, seeing Texas just sitting behind the wheel of their car and not moving.

"Texas?" Exusiai called out in worry, her voice echoing in the oversized garage.

Texas must have heard her name being called as her wolf ears flickered, and she could be seen breathing deeply before slowly getting out of the car with very little enthusiasm.

"Is she okay? She looks like she is about to have a panic attack..." The worried Amiya asked the equally anxious Sankta.

"I-I don't know..." Exusiai's usual chirpy personality was somewhat subdued.

Texas walks over to the two and swings her bag over her shoulder.

"Amiya," Texas nodded her head at the Cautus leader.

"Texas? Are you alright?" Amiya asked.

"I'm fine, just tired..." Texas said, which continued to fail at convincing anyone. If the unsure look Amiya was throwing her way and the silent sigh for Exusiai.

"Well... okay... Please follow me," Amiya asked them to follow, which they did without question.

~

The meeting was still happening, discussing different topics concerning Rhodes Island, but they were still waiting for Amiya to arrive with their guests.

"Where are they?" Kal'tsit asked in annoyance.

"Patience, Kal, sheesh..." Closure sighed, making Kal glare at her.

Suddenly the door opened slightly, making everyone turn to look as Amiya peeked around the door before entering.

"I brought them," Amiya said before entering the room and retaking her seat.

Texas and Exusiai entered the room in confusion, expecting to be taken to a dorm set up for them, not to a meeting with the leaders of Rhodes Island.

The two from Penguin Logistics looked at Amiya questionably as she stared back at them sheepishly and pointed at the two empty chairs at the end of the table.

Exusiai and Texas sat in the empty chairs, feeling like they had just been put on trial. Exusiai started to fidget in her seat at all the eyes on them and the stern look Kal'tsit was sending their way but strangely, mostly at Texas.

"Good to see you both again!" Blaze grinned at the pair.

"We're glad you're both back" Nearl smiled at them.

"Oh! glad to be back!" Exusiai chirped awkwardly and smiled at them.

"Why are we here?" Texas asked indifferently, looking directly at Kal'tsit.

Everyone stared at the two and grimaced. They were already sensing an impending argument.

"Why did Farsight go to your safe house three weeks ago?" Kal'tsit asked coldly as she stared at Texas.

Exusiai stared at Kal'tsit in shock, not expecting such a question. How did they know!? Texas looked back at Kal'tsit, and Her indifferent look remained, but her eyes glowed brighter as she stared at the Lynx.

"I don't see how any of that is your business," Texas stated plainly.

Kal'tsit glared and growled but bit her tongue as she felt Warfarin pinch her thigh in a warning.

"The most wanted man in Terra with technology we can only dream of walks out of your safe house... I wonder wh-" Kal'tsit is quickly cut off by Exusiai of all people.

"...He was visiting us..." Exusiai smiled at the group before her. Texas looked sideways at the Sankta, unsure if she should thank or scold her.

"Visiting you?" Kal'tsit raised an eyebrow.

"Yes," Came Texas's curt reply.

"..."

"You're hiding something," Kal'tsit remarked.

"I've got better things to do than listen to your delusional accusations!" Texas growled and stood, before marching out of the room, surprising everyone.

"I'm not finished, Texas! Come back here now!" Kal'tsit was the first to recover as she stood and shouted for Texas to return.

"Kal'tsit, sit down now!" Warfarin commanded, making Kal'tsit reluctantly sit back down and seeth silently.

Exusiai sat there wide-eyed.

All eyes turned to her.

"Ummm, Hehehe, parley? Exusiai looked around awkwardly with a little grin on her face.

"Hahahah!" Blaze laughed.

Sussurro didn't know what was happening! Her shift in the med bay had just ended, and she was heading to her room to take a nap before grabbing a bite to eat but found herself grabbed from behind and dragged back into the medical wing and an empty examination room. The hand over her mouth prevented her from shouting for help.

She heard the door lock behind her, filling her with dread.

"I'm going to release you, don't scream, alright? I'll explain... Nod if you understand." The familiar voice whispered into her large fluffy fox ear, and she nodded vigorously.

"Good," The voice said before she felt the hand on her mouth leave and the body behind her step away.

Sussurro turned quickly to face her kidnapper and was shocked to see the face of Miss Texas of the Penguin Logistics group.

"Wha? Why!?" Sussurro Whispered harshly at the Lupo.

"I need your help."

The look of desperation in Texas's eyes caught Sussurro off guard.

"...With?"

"Promise me you won't tell a soul. No one can know I'm here." Texas asked the short Vulpo.

"I am familiar with Doctor Patient confidentiality" Sussurro frowned at the Lupo as if she had insulted her.

"I need a blood test," Texas asked awkwardly.

"Why?" Sussurro raised an eyebrow.

"I-I need to know if I'm pregnant..." Texas closed her eyes and clenched her fists.

Sussurro eyes widen at the revelation before frowning again. "You know you can buy a pregnancy test at any pharmacy store in Lungmen, right?"

"We aren't in Lungmen, and I would rather be as certain as possible." Texas opened her eyes and stared at the shorter woman.

Sussurro sighed but nodded in understanding. If she thought she was pregnant, she would probably do the same. She went to one of the cupboards, pulled out a disposable syringe, and walked back to Texas.

"Please sit and pull up your sleeve," Sussurro asked. Texas followed her instruction, sitting on one of the free patient chairs and rolling up her left sleeve.

Within the minute, Sussurro had taken a blood sample and told Texas to wait in the room while she got her results. Testing for pregnancy in blood only takes a few minutes. Texas had difficulty sitting patiently, so she anxiously paced in the small room. Time was dragging; it had only been five minutes, but it felt much longer.

Less than ten minutes had passed when Sussurro returned to the room and closed the door behind her. Texas had stopped pacing and turned to stare at the Vulpo.

"Well?" Texas asked, cringing as her voice cracked.

Texas's face went pale when Sussurro looked at the datapad in her hands and then looked back up at her with an awkward smile.

"Congratulations Miss Texas, you're pregnant!"

Done!

That was fun to write. I won't lie.

I know it was obvious she was pregnant, but now it's just official.

The question is, how long before Kal'tsit finds out Texas is pregnant and puts two and two together? She probably has samples of the Dr Y/n's blood to verify.
