6] Carol and Krone

Chapter 6
Carol and Krone
キャロルとクローネ

            "Damn it!" Norman shouted, punching a tree which made me jump.
"This is bad. Another demon minion. Plus, she's living in an inconvenient spot," Ray pointed out.

In the vacant room we just cleaned. Second floor, right in the center of the kids' rooms.
"Make space in the pantry. Inspecting the spare linen," I muttered.

"We played right into her hands and made preparations to welcome another enemy. I would have known had I given it more thought!" Norman exclaimed in frustration.
I put my hand on his shoulder, "Norman..." I muttered, about to say more but he pushed my hand away. I looked down sadly, hoping it was unnoticeable.

"But even if we knew, there was no way to prevent it. Why are you so..." Ray said, probably noticing my look.
"It's not about preventing it. Mom kept dangling clues in front of us. If it was just to take us by surprise, she shouldn't have made us do those chores," Norman responded.

"It's all about Mom. Unless we surpass her, there's no way to escape," I said with a sigh, moving away from Norman.

"But... making us depressed is also what she was going for," Ray said.
" "I'm way better at strategy than you." "I see right through you." "Give up." If she dangled hints in front of us. That's what she wanted to show off. We don't have to play by her rules. In the end, if we escape. It's our win. Crying would only satisfy the enemy. We should actually be happy about this," Ray said, which made me confused.

"Huh?" I asked.

"Now we have more sources of information," he told us.
"Oh!" I exclaimed, giving him a fake smile.
"We needed more information. So in that sense, this situation isn't so bad. This isn't over yet," he added.

"Yeah, we're the ones who will win in the end," I said with a smile.
"Yay!" Emma exclaimed.

Time Skip

"First, where did those two come from?" I asked.
"Yeah," Ray muttered.
"Carol is replacing Conny. So they're replenishing the merchandise," Norman said, his hand on his chin like he always does when he's thinking.

"Yeah. If this place is a farm and not an orphanage... they must have a base where they have the one-year-old's... created or kidnapped to replenish the farm," said Ray.

"A base to supply more human livestock from," Norman muttered.
"So Carol... and also all of us came from there?" Emma asked with an uneasy look.
"Probably," I said, putting my hand on her shoulder to reassure her.
"And that sister. It's significant that there is an adult woman other than Mom. There might be other farms just like here," Norman said.

"So the adults who obey the demons... are they under the control of demons from birth, or are they captured after being born in a human society? How we survive after we escape changes depending on that," I said in a hushed voice.

The background of those two... is key to solving the mystery of the outside.
"It's also significant that we got a new sibling. Even if the other kids don't have a mark... since she just arrived, she might have one," Ray said.

A scar from where the tracking device is implanted!
"At present, we have three things to think about. One, the adults are the key to finding out about the outside. Two, Carol might give us a clue about the tracking device. And three... there is definitely something wrong with the way Mom is proceeding with things," Ray said calmly.

"Huh? Wait, what? Huh?!" Emma exclaimed. I chuckled slightly.
"Think about it. Isn't it weird? She showed up things on purpose to make us nervous. She did it with the tracking device, she did it again this time. It's suspicious, clearly something's going on. If she already knows, just get us and ship us immediately! That's all she has to do," Ray pointed out.
{ True! }

"But Mom's not doing that. There's a reason... Or she's not purposely doing so because she has an objective," Norman replied.

{ A reason? An objective? }
"Like what?" Emma and I asked in unison.

"I don't know," Norman said.
"But that's why we can't really figure out Mom's strategy. And if we don't know how the enemy's going to act, there isn't a moment to lose. You get it, right Emma, Y/n?" Ray asked.

"Y-Yeah!" I said.
"Yeah!" Emma said.

{ We don't know what Mom is thinking. That means we don't know what she's going to do. We don't know when we'll be in a bind-- a bind that will kill us. Before that happens! As soon as possible! We've got to escape! I'm not going to let an opportunity get away. We have to... No, what I have to do next is... I don't even know! What is wrong with me? }

"We won't be able to get near her," Ray said.
"Leave it to me! I'll get clues for the tracking devices from Carol," I told them.

There are nine cribs in Mom's room. The nine youngest, ages one to two, sleep and wake up with Mom.
And in mom's room, the only ones... allowed to help with bathing and changing the youngest everynight... are, for some reason, the older girls.

"We won't be able to get near her. And if we try, it will look suspicious," Norman said.

I entered the room.

"We have to find the tracking devices and break them. Otherwise, escaping is impossible. Especially if you want everyone to escape. We're counting on you, Y/n," Ray told me. I nodded.

{ I-I'll find them. For sure. I'll find the clues... hopefully, to the tracking devices from Carol! }

This was short! Cuz that chapter in the book is short...
