Book 6
  Chapter 45
The Rescue
救助

            I tried to open my eyes.
Yeah, tried.

          But it hurt. It really hurt.
It's... cold.
But hot.

          My body shook.
{ Where's Ray... Norman? Where's Emma? Everyone else? }

         "Don't worry. You'll be okay. Hang in there," a soft voice told me, placing a hand on my forehead.
{ Who's that? Mom?
My vision blurred as I tried to make out the figure.
{ No... it can't be. Who? }

        The figure touched my hand and I felt at peace again, soon falling asleep.

I woke up to someone shouting my name.
"Ray..." I muttered, opening my eyes to look at him.

He let out a sigh of relief, hugging me closely.
"You survived, thank God," I muttered, hugging him tightly.
"Yeah, I did..." he murmured, running his hand through my hair.

"You came back safely," I said with happiness as I buried my head in his shoulder.
"I'm glad you're okay," I muttered. He smiled, "I'm glad you're okay as well," he muttered.

I then looked around, "Where are we anyway? Where's everyone else?" I asked, leaning my head on his shoulder.
We were in a cave.

"You don't know either? I see. So we were rescued separately in different locations. A man in a hood and a girl in a hood. Are they together? Who were they? Are they enemies or allies?" Ray muttered.
"I doubt they're enemies. Earlier... I was waking up, slightly, not fully. And I saw the girl, she was changing my bandages," I said. "I don't really know what she looks like, I couldn't tell. But she had a beautiful and kind voice, she didn't show intent to hurt us."

Ray narrowed his eyes slightly, "You can't change your thinking just by her voice..."

"If they were enemies, though, I don't get what their objective would be," he admitted making me smile.

Then, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I almost screamed but I saw Emma's face.
"You guys are okay!" she exclaimed, hugging Ray and I tightly.

I hugged her back and Ray slipped out of the hug, leaving Emma and me.

"I missed you so much!" Emma then said, letting Ray go and hugging me. I chuckled, "It wasn't that long."
Emma just gave me one of her goody-looking smiles and let go of me.
"Do you think it's Mr. Minerva?" she then asked, seeming to have heard our conversation.

"Could be, right? They saved us humans. We're supposed to be food," Emma continued, getting serious.
"It's possible. Even if it's not him personally, someone from his group," Ray added.

I then heard some movement, picking up the lamp, I aimed it to the darkness.
"Someone's coming," I muttered under my breath.

The girl appeared.

She looked confused for a second but then she rushed up to me.
I was hesitant and in reaction backed way, grabbing Emma's hand. She didn't seem to mind.

"Great! You woke up. How do you feel?" she asked me, grasping my shoulders as I saw a smile on her face.
I smiled slightly, "I-I'm way better," I admitted.

Her smile grew, I could tell she was happy.
"The bleeding stopped and your fever's down. The medical herbs must have worked! But you can't exert yourself. You don't want to faint again," she informed me.

She then let go of my left shoulder and grasped Ray's.
"You ran away, didn't you? From that farm? You'll be okay now. As long as you're here, you're safe," she continued.
"Please just rest up tonight. Got it?" I smiled and nodded, "Got it."

{ This is her. She saved us. But, can we trust her? }

"Um, where is everyone? The kids who were with me?" Emma asked. The girl let go of me.
"They're over there. I just finished preparing the food. Follow me," she smiled.

Time Skip

I stayed up front with the girl. In a worse case scenario, if a monster came from up-front, I would die fi-
{ No, Y/n! Stop thinking like that you idiot! } My brain screamed.

{ She's kind to us. But is that genuine? Or is this a trap? It's so hard... we can't trust anyone }

"Hey, the man who saved me. In the hood. Is he with you?" Ray asked.
"Are you talking about Sonju?" the girl asked, looking back. She then turned back.
"Yes. He's over there too," she said.

"Sonju... what a cool name," I smiled at her. She smiled back.
"So it's not Mr. Minerva?" Emma asked.
"Minerva?" the girl asked.
"You don't know William Minerva?"

The girl didn't respond. So that was probably a no.

I didn't think much of it. Maybe this was another group that helped the people trapped inside.

"Hey... Thank you," Ray said. I knew something was up immediately.

"For saving us. Or else we would have been doomed. So I thank you from the bottom of my heart. There's one thing I want to ask," he paused for a second.
{ Ray... why you're logical sense now? }

"Why did you save us?" he smirked slightly. "Answer me this... Why did  demons save us humans, your food?" he asked.
Emma was oblivious to the fact the people who saved us were demons, her shocked expression hurt.

The girl's happy expression fell. "You're both demons, right? You and that guy. What are you up to? Tell us why, demons."
I felt the walls close in, looking at everyone, memorizing their expressions as Ray pulled me back to him.

I just wanted to trust someone...
She was so kind. . . She couldn't be an enemy.
