22] Bait

Book 3} Chapter 22
Bait

Six days until the escape

"So let's go over the plan. After lunch, once we get our free time. I'll distract Mom. Norman, Y/n, and Emma will climb the wall and inspect the vicinity. Don and Gilda, stay outside where you can see the South window on the second floor of the house. I'll signal just in case I fail to distract Mom. You'll then need to let Emma, Y/n, and Norman know to cancel the inspection. I'm sure Mom is suspicious. I don't think she found out anything, but I don't want top be too optimistic about it. Also, there's a possibility that she won't fall for my distraction," Ray said.

"If that happens, are we giving up on the inspection?" Don asked.

"Yeah. Depending on the situation, for the time being. Listen. It's over when Mom thinks of us as uncontrollable. Mom's objective is to ship us out when we're mature. Especially the four with perfect scores," Ray said sternly.

"She took care with our growth and would never want to ship us out prematurely. If she can control us, she would rather do that, and she knows she can. That's who caretaker Isabella is," Ray told us as he continued.

He set down his bucket and poured water in it.

"Even if she suspects something or doubts us, don't make a fuss. Just make her think we can still be controlled. Luckily, there's no regular shipment next month. We have six days until the plan. But at most, we have two and a half months until January, when I reach maturity and will be shipped out," he said.

He moved positions and headed to continue washing the clothes as he poured the water in a larger bucket.

"So if something happens, we'll immediately cancel the inspection," he told us.
"Everything needs to be done in secret. We need to pretend to be controllable. Got it?" he asked.

Gilda and Don nodded.

I was about to follow Ray when, "Ray, Y/n, Can I talk to you?" Norman asked. I tilted my head in his direction and nodded.

"What?!" Ray asked.
"Sister Krone found out we can break the tracking devices?" I asked, my eyes widening.

"There were benefits from the talk. But we also screwed up. So I want to move up the escape. When can you break the tracking devices?" Norman asked Ray.

Ray was quick to move as he moved a drawer and grabbed something from under it. A box.
"Mom gave this to me while you were visiting Sister Krone," he told us. I moved over to him and looked at it.
"For selling you guys out," he added. He handed me what was inside the box. I looked at it.

"An instant camera?" I asked as the other two surrounded me to look at it.
"I've been waiting for that. I have all the necessary pieces. I can break the tracking devices anytime now," he said. My expression brightened.

"Depending on if we can inspect the vicinity, let's move up the escape date," Ray agreed.
"It's a nuisance that she figured out something we wanted to hide," Ray added,
"We can never give her evidence," Norman said.

"So before she obtains it, we should finish our inspection and escape as soon as possible," Emma said. I held onto the camera tightly.
"Yeah. But don't change how we deal with Mom," Ray agreed.
"I know," Emma replied.

"Let's deal with Sister separately."

"I used to hide all of the rewards here," Ray told us, showing us the space underneath the nightstand.
"I never even knew that was there..." I muttered.

"Right now it's Alicia's space for her nightstand. She shouldn't be able to find it easily," Ray added.

Time Skip

"I'll give her a different bait," she told us. We then left the room with confusion, "Bait?" I muttered.
"What exactly did Ray do?" Emma asked.
"I don't know," Norman replied truthfully.

I looked back down. Guess we just have to wait and find out.
