Chapter 13: Illness

(Thank you to @JaydenR_ for editing the chapters!)

It was late at night and you were sitting in the living room watching tv when you heard the doorbell ring. You sigh and get up to answer it. On the other side were two cops, one male, the other female.

"Is this the l/n residence?" The male asked.

"Yes, is there something I can help you both with?"

"Indeed. I'm officer Brian, and this is my partner, officer Molly."

"We have some news we regret to inform you about." Molly said

You raise a row. "Is everything alright?"

"There was a horrible car crash over on (whatever highway you're near.) and unfortunately your mothers was in that crash." Brain stated.

You gave them a confused look, "I think I misheard you. My mother, she's already gone."

"Your mother is m/n l/n correct?" Molly asked

"Yes, but you must have the wrong person." Her eyes switched between the two of them as she started to break down.

"I'm sorry miss but your mother was found dead on scene." He reached into his pocket and pull out a small bracelet "this was found in the rubble,"

"No! No it can't happen again. She's gone!"

"We're sorry." They both said in unison. You could feel your heart racing as you began to hyperventilate a bit.

You blinked. The setting changed to a funeral home. You noticed you were now in a black shirt and paints and several nabors, colleagues, friends of your mother were sitting all in black. They were facing you, each with a blank expression. You turned around to see a casket and inside laid something you never wished to see again. Your mother.

You woke up in a fright. Tears rolling down your eyes, you were hyperventilating a bit. The dream felt so real, it was like relieving your mothers death all over again. "It was a dream, only a dream." You reminded yourself.

Once calm you laid your head back down and tried to go back to sleep. You tossed and turned for what felt like hours, but was really only minutes. Unable to go back to sleep, you decided to grab something.

You creeped out of your room, making sure not to make any noises. You tiptoed down stairs to your mothers office. You didn't know why Hades hadn't gotten rid of it, but part of you was glad he hadn't. You walked over to a small bookcase in there and grabbed a blue book. You took it to the living room and sat down in the open chair.

It was full of pictures ranging from when you were as small as one year old to just a few months before your mother passed. It comforted you, looking back at the memories you all shared at one point in time. Some had funny moments of them trying to feed you when you were small. Others were serious such as photos of you sick in the hospital. There were even ones of your family at Disney, which really made you smile.

After flipping through several pages you let out a loud yawn. You tried to stay awake but your body wasn't having it. You felt your eyes grow heavy as they slowly closed.

When you woke up again, you had a splitting headache. You looked super tired, your nose was stuffy, you even were a bit chilly. You hoped you just slept bad as you stood up from the chair. You noticed your throat was really dry, maybe you need some water. So you made your way into the kitchen where Kronk, the Evil Queen, and Queen Narissa were. Kronk was cooking wail grimhilde and Narissa was trying to make coffee.

"Y/n, are you alright?" Narissa asked as you came in.

You gave a weak nod as you grabbed a glass and opened the fridge to fill it with water. You scarfed it down before refilling it. You did this a few times before your thought was no longer dry. You shut the fridge and placed your cup in the sink. When you turned to go upstairs, grimhilda was standing behind you.

She placed her hand up to your forehead "you definitely have a fever. Maybe we should get mad to look at you."

"I'm fine." Your voice was raspy and congested. You backed up and turned to exit the kitchen. "I've got to get ready for school."

"You do know it's alright to miss school when you're sick. And by the state you're in, you should." Narissa.

"I'm fine, trust me." You were a little wobbly as you turned. 'I just slept wrong that all' you keep telling yourself as you claim the staircase.

Once in your room you quickly got ready for the day. Well quick as in really slow cause your body was sweating perfectly. Not to mention you were now sneezing and coughing due to how congested your nose and throat were. But you were used to being sick. After all, with your medical history you were likely to catch someone at some point in the year.

Normally you would stay home when you did catch something. But you had already missed enough days of school. Not to mention you had rehearsal tonight. Also you had no idea how they would treat you when you were sick. Last thing you wanted was to be babied 24/7.

Once dressed you went downstairs and grabbed your backpack. You then went back to the kitchen looking worse then the first time and grabbed your daily protein drink.

"You good y/n?" Kronk asked as he finished making her lunchbox.

"I'm fi- fi- fi *achoo* fine" you sniffed.

"I really don't think you should go in. I know a beautiful looking girl when I see one. And right now you look like a pile of garbage." Grimhilda responded.

Your eyes lower, almost closing them. "Thanks *cough* grim" you sounded even worse. "But I'll live." You the. Wobbled a little as you tried to leave only to use the counter as support.

"That's it." Narissa said as she crossed the room, stopping in front of you. "Bed. Now!" She pointed to the staircase.

"No, I need to get to school. I've missed too much." You say trying to get by her but she doesn't let you pass.
"I said bed!"

"And I said s..s..*achoo* school" you said before having a coughing fit into your arm.

Grimhilda shakes her head before screaming "Gaston!"

Two seconds later he came running up behind Narissa. "What?" He then noticed you and his eyes lit up "what happened to her?

"Take y/n up to her room. I'm gonna get mad to take a look at her." Grimhilda said as she came up behind you. Narissa moved to the side and you tried to make a weak run for it. But Gaston picked you up and lifted you over his shoulder.

"Put me down." You coughed.

"Sorry kid, but you do sound sick." He said as he began to climb the stairs. Once in your room he closed the door and laid you down on your bed.

You bounce back and get to your feet. "Let me go to school."

"We get it y/n, you're a fighter. But you don't need to show us this way." He said pushing you back down onto the bed.

"I just slept wrong is all, or it's a cold." You said getting back to your feet and heading to the door. You open it revealing The Mad Dr carrying a bag and The evil queen. From his face he looked a bit concerned.

"See she is clearly unwell." The evil queen stated.

You weakly narrowed your eyes on both of them. "Mad, tell them I can *achoo* go to school."

Mad looked you up and down. "From what it looks like, you're in no shape to leave this room."

You back up into the room a bit "I'm fine, it's just a *cough* stupid cold."

"Will see." He said before stepping further in. He then looked over at Gaston "Gaston, could you wait outside?"

"Sure thing." He said leaving the room.

Grimhilda steps in and closes the room.

Mad then looked at you "take your bag off and have a sit on your bed."

You rolled your eyes and reluctantly slump your bag onto the ground before sitting. He sat his bag of tools next to you.
"Tell me what's wrong?" He asked, rummaging through his bag.

"Nothing, just a headache and stuffy nose with a sore throat and cough. I'm fine though, I prolly just have a cold or sleeped strangely."

"Not from what you're describing, kid." He took out a stethoscope. He placed it on your chest "breath in." You did. "Breath out." You did. He did this a few more times, moving it across your chest.

"Your lungs are a bit congested." He said, taking it off and putting it off to the side.

He then reached in his bag and took out a thermometer. He placed it in your mouth and waited for it to beep. He beeped rapidly showing the severity of the cold. He read the thermometer out loud "100, she definitely has a fever." He the put the thermometer away.

"I told you." Grimhilda stated.

You roll your eyes again. For villains they sure did care, but why?

Mad put his hand near your neck and jawline (If that's what it's called). You winced a bit as he poked around but mostly you stayed still. "slightly swollen, but that should just be from the drainage."

He then reached into his bag again and pulled out a penlight. "Just stay like that. I'm just going to take a peek inside your nose." You stayed seated as he knelt below to get a better look.you looked over at grimhilde and gave her a "when im well, you're dead" look.

Mad then stood up and looked down at you "Open wide." He asked and you complied. It hurt a bit and your tonsils were a little bit swollen but that was probably from the congestion.

"From what it looks like, it seems to just be a really bad cold."

"Ok, so can't one of you use magic on me or something, now that we know what it is?" You ask in a raspy tone, looking at grimhilde.

"We aren't using magic." She responds.

You cross your arm and frown.

"I'll go get some medication for you. For now you are to stay in bed till I say otherwise." Mad said as he picked up his bag.

"You can't keep me here." You protest, getting up.

"Let me put it this way then. There's around 30 of us and only one of you. So if you leave this room, you won't get very far. Especially in your condition."

"But i-"

"Bed y/n, now!" Grimhilda warned.

"No, if you're gonna keep me here it's not in bed." You started reaching to grab your backpack. But mad stopped you by grabbing it first.

"You need bed rest y/n." He said "so lay down and do just that."

You look between the two of them before reaching for your bag in mads hands. "Give me it."

"I see will be doing this the hard way." He dropped his bag on your bed, and your bag to the floor. He then gripped his hands onto your shoulders. "Send Gaston in, and go get Mal."

She nodded and opened the door signaling for Gaston to go in as she left. He came in and tilted his head at you. "Help me restrain her onto the bed."

Your eyes lit up as you looked at Mad "restrain me?!"

"You had your chance and I'm afraid I don't give seconds." He then pushed up back onto your bed. Before you knew it, Gaston was holding your shoulders down while Mad hand your legs trap under his arms. Unfortunately you didn't have the energy to struggle much so it was easy on their part.

Maleficent and Grimhilda arrive only a few seconds later. Each was surprised at their actions.

"Mad what are you doing?" Maleficent asked in a rather calm tone.

"Mal thinks you can put a sleeping spell on the grill. Just for an hour or two. I need her on bed rest and she's not taking it."

Though she didn't like the idea, Maleficent did so voluntarily. She came over to where you laid. You watched as she began to mutter words under her breath as her septor began to glow. A beam of light then hits you making you tingle inside.you eyes grew heavy as you body relaxed.

"Rest child" she whispered as you fell asleep.

When you woke up again, Hades was sitting in the spare chair in your room. You slowly sat up in bed as Hades looked over at you.

"Hay kid, how are you feeling?"

"Better." You noticed your voice wasn't as raspy but your throat was still sour. You also whernt as tired either. "How long was I out?"

"Four hours."

Your eyes widen a bit as you look at him "four hours."

He nodded "but you needed it. And it seems like it helped."

You shrugged "helped me feel better, yes. Help me catch up, no."

"What do you mean?"

"Well it's not like I can get any work done here. And now I've got another absence on my record. Not to mention I've got rehearsal that I'm gonna miss for the third week in a row."

"Rehearsal?" He asked.

"Ya we're doing a musical called Percy Jackson and the lightning thief."

"Oh ya, Poseidon's son, got to love him."

"You raise a brow, you know him?"

"Not as much as jerkulies but he came by the underworld once or twice. Why?"

"Just curious. Well we're doing that musical and I'm playing Mrs Dodds but I've missed a few rehearsals and the show goes up at the end of march."

"Playing a fury, how's that gonna work out?"

"Not sure yet, but hopefully I'll find out next week."

A knock at the door then presented itself.

"Come in." Hades responded.

The door opened and mad walked in. In his hands were a Medicine bottle and spoon.

"Nice to see you up." He said with a smile. "Are you feeling any better after that mandatory nap?"

"You could say that. What's that?" You ask him, pointing to the bottle.

"This is the medication I'm prescribing you." He said pouring it into a spoon "now you're either taking this willingly or forcefully."

You reluctantly open your mouth and take the medication. You make an awful face because it tasted like sanitizer. You didn't want to swallow it, but it was too much to hide the evidence.

"Swallow." He said. It took a few tries but your body eventually swallowed it. You stuck your tongue out before coughing a bit as it burned your throat.

"Good, I'll be back around dinner to check in and give you some more. Food should be up-" and as if he were a god, gothel had come up with a tray of food and a book.

"Now." He said and excused himself from the room.

Gothel let him out before entering."I figured you wanted a break, you've been here for almost three hours."
"I'm fine, this kid is not that bad."

Gothel gave him a look "well you should at least eat something. I'll stay with her till you're done."

"You sure?" He asked, getting up from the chair.

"I'm sure, besides I had something I wanted to ask her."

"You good if I do that kid?"

"Yep, go eat." You said with a smile as you watched him leave.

"So how are you feeling?" Gothel asked as she placed the tray on your lap. On it was a bowl of soup and a glass of water.

"Alright, but what's with the book?" You ask, recognizing it as the same one you were reading in class. You had taken it out last night to finish up some homework and forgot to put it back in your bag.

"Frollo asked if you would read some of the book so you don't fall behind."

"Of course he did, doesn't care that I'm recovering."

"If I recall you were the one who wanted to go to school when they were sick."

You roll your eyes "whatever, how much does he want me to read?"

"Not much 20 pages now and he will go over the rest when he gets back." She took a seat in the empty chair. "I figured I read it while you ate."

"Go ahead." You said not to be pleased with the idea.

She opened the book to the page you left off on and began to read while you ate.

You took it easy eating since you weren't that hungry, and you still had sanitizer taste in your mouth. But after. A few bites you realized how badly your stomach hurt. You only got through half the bow by the time you felt something was wrong. You leaned over clutching your stomach.

Gothel noticed, stopping and looking up at you. "You alright?"

Next thing you knew you were rushing to your bathroom and standing over the toilet. You had puked up everything.

"I'll go get mad" Gothel called from your bedroom.

You sighed, this was going to be a long recovery. Next time you're going to see a real doctor from your world.
