Sacking on Asgard

----- November 12th, 2013 - Asgard -----

A few Asgardian physicians attempt to study Jane and the Aether within her. She lies on a table as what looks like dust in the shape of her body is pulled out of her.

Jane pokes at it, "What's that?"

"Be still," one of them tells her as they smack her hand down.

Thor watches with one of the nurses as they examine Jane. Y/N is about as ensnared in the machine as Jane is.

"This is not of Earth, what is it?," Thor asks the nurse.

"We do not know, but she will not survive the amount of energy surging within her."

The nurse turns and walks away as Thor looks at Jane with worry. Thor walks up next to Y/N as he attempts to also poke at the machine, only to have his hand smacked away as well.

"That's a quantum field generator, isn't it?," Jane asks.

The physician studying her just tells her, "It's a Soul Forge."

"Does a Soul Forge transfer molecular energy from one place to another?," Y/N asks her.

The physician looks away from the Soul Forge and at both Y/N and Jane, "...Yes."

The two of them whisper, "Quantum field generator."

They high five each other as Thor smiles at them.

"My words are mere noises to you that you ignore them completely?"

Odin has entered the room. The physicians quickly back away from the Soul Forge. A frown forms on Y/N's face.

"She's ill," Thor explains as Odin walks closer.

"She is mortal. Illness is their defining trait."

"I brought her here because we can help her."

Odin continues walking but stops once he rounds the other side of the Soul Forge, "She does not belong here in Asgard anymore than a goat belongs at a banquet table."

Jane sits up and looks at Thor, "Did he just...?," She snaps to Odin, "Who do you think you are?"

"I'm Odin. King of Asgard. Protector of the Nine Realms."

"Oh. Well, I'm-"

Odin cuts her off, "I know very well who you are, Jane Foster."

Jane turns to look at Thor, "You told your Dad about me?"

"Something is within her, father, something I have not seen before," Thor tells him.

"Her world has its healers, they're called doctors, let them deal with it."

Y/N snorts at that, "I doubt the Doctors of Earth can handle something like that."

Odin's eyes dart toward Y/N as he now leans against the Soul Forge with a smirk on his face. They all sit in silence for a couple seconds until Odin turns back to Thor.

"Bringing the girl here was one thing. But him? I explicitly told you not to," He tells Thor before saying to the Guards, "Guards, take them back to Midgard."

"I really wouldn't do that if I were you," Y/N says, without actually caring if they listened.

Despite the warning, two guards approach Jane and go to grab her, but the Aether from within her sets off again throwing the two guards aside.

Thor leans down and tenderly touches Jane, "Jane, are you alright?"

Jane nods her head.

Odin quickly comes up to the other side of her and inspects the energy force running through Jane's body, "That's impossible."

"The infection, it's defending her," The Physician off to the side says.

"No, it's defending itself," says Thor.

"Come with me," Odin tells them.

Odin proceeds to lead Thor, Jane, and a reluctant Y/N through the castle of Asgard and to a Library.

"There are relics that predate the universe itself. What lies within her appears to be one of them. The Nine Realms are not eternal. They had a dawn as they will have a dusk," Odin pulls out an ancient book, "But before that dawn the dark forces, the Dark Elves, reigned absolute and unchallenged."

Thor reads a part of a page, "'Born of eternal night, the Dark Elves comes to steal away your light.' I know these stories. Mother told them to us as children."

Odin continues, "Their leader, Malekith made a weapon out of that darkness, it was called the Aether. While the other relics often appeared as stones, the Aether is fluid and ever changing. It changes matter into dark matter and seeks out host bodies, drawing strength from their life force. Malekith sought to use the Aether's power to return the universe to one of darkness. But after eternities of blood shed, my father Bor, finally triumphed, ushering in the peace that lasted thousands of years."

"What happened?," Jane asks.

"He killed them all."

"Are you certain? The Aether was said to have been destroyed with them and yet here it is," Thor theorizes.

"The Dark Elves are dead," Odin insists.

"How much you wanna bet that sentence is gonna come back to bite you in the ass," Y/N mumbles in boredom.

Jane asks the important question, "Does your book happen to mention how to get it out of me?"

"No, it does not," admits Odin.

"Then why are we looking at it? You know what, never mind. Don't answer that. I've got better places to be," Y/N says as he walks away from the group and out the door.

__________

Heimdall stands in the Bifrost, gazing amongst the stars. He stands watching the convergence.

"So I take it this is where you spend most of your time?"

Heimdall turns to see Y/N walking up next to him.

"For the last 4,100 or so years, Yes," Heimdall says.

"4,100? If Odin is like 5,500, how long until you start to look old?"

Heimdall lets out a smile and tells him, "I've still got about 400 years left."

The two stand there in silence for a few minutes. Both looking into the stars.

Heimdall's eyes were orange as always.

"Tell me what you see," Heimdall says as he breaks the silence.

Y/N stares out ahead, "Everything. Is that what you see?"

"Always."

As they stand there, Heimdall turns to look at him just as his eyes turn orange as well, "..It's beautiful."

Heimdall smiles in agreeance and turns back to the stars, "It is as beautiful as it is dangerous. Like the grey warriors from the Beyond that your father says his father used to speak of."

Y/N's eyes dart at Heimdall for a moment when he says that. He decides to change the subject to something current.

"You must of heard about Jane having the Aether within her then? And the other relics?," Y/N asks Heimdall.

Heimdall turns to him before responding, "Is that why you're here?"

Y/N just takes a deep breath, not answering the question. A frown forms on his face.

Heimdall places a hand on Y/N's shoulder, "You're hiding something. You don't have to."

"...I may not have to, but what if I need to?"

"What do you mean?"

Y/N glances at him then shakes his head, "Doesn't matter.. Do you know where Loki is?"

"Loki is currently in the dungeons," Heimdall tells him.

Y/N smirks at that, "Ahh of course. The dungeons. I forgot that Asgard is simultaneously technologically advanced but also stuck in the medieval era."

Heimdall smiles at his jab at Asgard.

The two of them stand there in more silence, just gazing at the stars and all Nine Realms. Both more comfortable and close to one another with each other then compared to with other people on Asgard.

Eventually, Y/N turns to leave, but just as he exits Heimdall yells out to him.

"Welcome Home, Baldur."

__________

Y/N continues walking and nearly bumps into someone.

"Oh my. I apologize for that," the woman says.

"It's fine."

He goes to continue on his way, but the woman stops him, "Wait, You're Baldur, aren't you?"

Y/N looks at the woman strangely, "..Yes?.. Why?"

"When I learned of you, I didn't exactly agree with your fathers decision. But the way I see it, If he hadn't, you wouldn't be the same person."

"Odin is not my father," Y/N says frowning.

The woman smiles, "You sound a lot like Loki."

"Who are you anyway?"

"Queen Frigga. Mother to Loki and Thor," she tells him.

Y/N looks at her uninterested, "Okay then, Frigga. Now if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere I need to be."

He walks past her and continues toward the Dungeons. He ends up walking down a hall and as he gets to the end, he hears talking.

Before Y/N turns the corner, he stops and peaks around it first.

Loki and Queen Frigga were in a cell talking. Somehow she managed to get here before him?

He only hears the end of the conversation, where Frigga says, "You're always so perceptive about everyone but yourself."

She takes a step towards him and extends her hands. Loki goes to touch her hand but his hand goes through hers. Loki looks at Frigga with sadness as she disappears.

Y/N rounds the corner and stands in front of the cell as Loki still stands there, unaware of his presence.

"Nice place you got here," Y/N finally says.

Loki's head quickly snaps toward Y/N. They stare at each other for a bit, with Y/N being the only one with a smile on his face. Loki, on the other hand, looks as if he's slightly shocked but at the same time as if he expected to see him.

Until eventually, the two of them start laughing.

A smirk grows on Loki's face, "We have got to stop meeting like this."

"What? You mean with you in a cell?"

Loki steps closer to the side of the cell that Y/N is standing at, "When did you arrive? Surely the people would be celebrating their gods return."

"I got here a few hours ago. Only Heimdall and the others know. The people have no idea I'm here," Y/N tells him as he leans against the column next to the cell, "... Do the people here actually think of me of all people as their god?"

"The people of Asgard practically worship Odin. Yet the one they pray to is you."

Y/N thinks for a moment before a smirk grows on his face, "Have you ever prayed to me?"

But Loki just ignores the question and changes the subject, "Why are you here?"

"On Asgard? I wanted to see my brothers again.."

"You can't trick a trickster. I meant, why are you here? As in in front of me?"

"I wanted to talk... about last year."

Instantly, Loki assumes he knows what he means and tells him, "It wasn't a trick.. I truly wanted you to join me."

A smile momentarily flashes on Y/N's face, but he just shakes his head, "Not that but nice to know. It's about the scepter.."

"What about it?," Loki asks, confused.

"I need to know what it is.. What powers it?"

"Does it really matter a year later?"

Y/N quickly tells him, "It would matter a thousand years later."

Loki looks at him weirdly. They stand momentarily silent.

"Why?," Loki asks.

".... Because it showed me something.. On the roof after everything, I barely touch it and I see it."

Loki thinks to himself, "And what did you see?"

"Everything.."

"As in?"

"I saw the birth of the Universe and more. There.. There were time skips though. Once it got to the 1930s it jumped to 1946. Then 2011 to 2018 then straight to 2050.. Kept going after that."

Loki just blinks then asks, "..How long?"

"Thor and the others found me on the roof after a few minutes," Y/N says.

"No, How long for you?," Loki urges as he stares into his brothers red eyes.

Y/N takes a few glances around the room before telling him, "..I don't know. Lost track after 14.."

Loki's eyes widen, "14 billion years?"

"No, Septillion.. It kept going till the end."

Loki lets out a chuckle, "You lived through the birth and death of the universe in the span of a few minutes?"

Y/N laughs as well, "And through all that I surprisingly only saw myself a total of two times. The first was just standing on a different planet."

Y/N looks down at the floor as Loki asks, "And the other?"

".. I was stepping out from what looked like a tear in space. I was covered in blood and carrying a head of a man... but the thing is, my skin was grey like the head."

__________

Hours later, Jane and Thor walk along Asgard. Jane was wearing an Asgardian dress.

"When you came for me, you knew I was in trouble."

"Well Heimdall had lost sight of you, you were no longer on Earth," Thor explains.

"Well, how's that possible?," She asks as they come to a stop along a railing.

"I believe you were and you weren't. The Nine Realms travel within Yggdrasil, orbiting Midgard in much the way your planet orbits the sun," Thor leans against the railing and grabs Janes hand while pressing the other against her other hand, "Every five thousand years the worlds align perfectly, we call this the Convergence. During this time the boarders between worlds become blurred. It's possible you found one of these points. We are lucky that it remained open," He moves his hand horizontally against hers, "Once the worlds pass out of alignment, the connection is lost..."

They lean closer and kiss, interlocking their hands.

As they pull away, Jane tells him, "I like the way you explain things."

"I don't. At all," they hear from the right.

They turn to see Y/N standing there, looking completely horrified. He stood out due to the human clothes he was wearing.

"You should ask the important questions too. Like what's gonna happen to her?," Y/N asks.

"I'll find a way to save her," says Thor.

"Your father said there was-," Jane tries to speak.

Thor cuts her off, telling her, "My father doesn't know everything."

"Don't let him hear you say that," Queen Frigga says as she too joins the conversation.

Frigga walks up next to Y/N, the two of them in front of Jane and Thor.

"Jane Foster, please meet Frigga, the Queen of Asgard, my mother," Thor introduces them before remembering and gesturing over to Y/N as well, "And for a proper introduction. This is Baldur or as you know him Y/N, my brother."

Jane, looking embarrassed, quickly removes her hand from Thor's, "..Hi."

But before the conversation moves any further, a loud commotion is heard from the dungeons.

"The prisons," Frigga says.

"Loki..," Thor assumes.

"Go, I will look after her," Frigga tells him.

Thor runs up a set of stairs, jumps off the balcony and takes off with his hammer.

Y/N looks at Frigga and Jane then off towards where Thor went. He lets out a sigh before running up the same set of stairs and kicking off the railing of the balcony.

And the moment he takes off, he punches his fist forward. His suit materializes around him from the ring glowing a purplish blue as it does.

The ring with the 'S' emblem.

__________

Odin and a bunch of guards walk down a hall. They make their way towards the dungeons.

"Send a squadron to the weapons vault, defend it at all costs. Seal the dungeon," Odin orders.

"Odin," Frigga calls as she leads Jane inside the castle.

"Frigga..," He turns to the Asgardian guards, "Go!," Then back to Frigga and Jane, "It's a skirmish, nothing to fear."

"You've never been a very good liar," Frigga tells him.

"Take her to you chambers, I'll come for you when it's safe."

"You take care," she urges her husband.

"Despite all I have survived, my queen still worries over me."

"It's only because I worry over you that you have survived."

And at that Odin goes off, While Frigga leads Jane away. She takes a sword from one of the guards.

She whispers to Jane as they walk, "Listen to me now, I need you to do everything I ask and no questions."

"Yes, ma'am."

__________

As Heimdall is stood in his usual guarding post, he suddenly hears something.

He turns and runs out onto the Bifrost Bridge, he jumps onto one of Malekith's ships cloaked in invisibility, making it visible. He slides down it and stabs a blade into an engine.

As it crashes, Heimdall quickly jumps off. He lands on the bridge as he rolls and stands.

The ship crashes on top of the bridge as well.

Heimdall breathes heavily as he turns to see a giant ship behind him releasing smaller ships to onto Asgard.

He makes a dash back into the Bifrost and slams his sword down into the center, Which activates a shield to protect the palace. But as fast as it went up, it also quickly goes back down.

Someone had managed to deactivate it. Allowing a ship to crash into the palace.

__________

After the ship has crashed into the palace and in front of the throne, the Dark Elves emerge and start attacking the Asgardian soldiers, killing them all.

Some get one-shot by a laser rifle. But others weren't as lucky. For others, The Dark Elves throw a grenade and when it explodes, It crushes the Asgardians into nothingness.

Malekith steps out from the ship during the skirmish. He walks down the hall and grabs a grenade from the belts of a Dark Elf he walks past. Without hesitating, he throw it at the Throne and completely destroys it.

He continues on his way and walks through a door to look for Frigga and Jane.

Minutes later, Odin arrives to find all the soldiers killed. All but one Dark Elf.

The Dark Elf goes to attack but Odin aims Gungnir at him and blast a beam of energy at him.

As Odin looks amongst the fallen, he whispers to himself, "Frigga."

But unfortunately for him, Malekith finds the tower where Frigga is hiding Jane and enters the room.

As he makes his way toward them, Jane scurries into the corner.

Frigga on the other hand makes her way toward him, holding the sword from earlier, "Stand down, creature. You may still survive this."

"I have survived worse, woman."

"Who are you?," she asks.

"I am Malekith, and I would have what it is mine."

As he walks closer to Frigga, she strikes him in the face with her sword. He takes out his blade and starts fighting with Frigga, she puts up a good fight but Algrim comes to his aid and restrains her by the neck.

Malekith stalks towards Jane, "You have taken something, child. Give it back."

Malekith stands in front of Jane and as he goes to grab her, she disappears causing him to realizes that she's a hologram.

He turns to Frigga, "Witch! Where is the Aether?"

Despite being held by the throat, she spits out, "I'll never tell you."

"..I believe you."

Suddenly Algrim stabs Frigga in the back, and at the same time Thor rushes in.

"NO!!," he shouts as he shoots a lightning bolt at Malekith's face, severely scarring it.

Thor jumps and throws his hammer as Malekith and Algrim make their way to the balcony. Mjolnir hits them as they jump but they land onto their ship and out of sight before Thor can catch them.

After Malekith and Algrim escape Odin arrives to find Frigga dead. Y/N flies in from behind Thor.

Thor slowly walk toward his mother as Odin holds her body in his arms and Thor and Y/N look on. Thor looks over to see Jane standing in the doorframe.

That night a funeral is held for Frigga.

All the Asgardians mourn her as her body is pushed out to the sea on a boat. They all carry balls of light as a single flaming arrow is shot at the boat, setting it and the late Frigga to flames.

The boat sails all the way to the edge of Asgard and Odin slams Gungnir to the ground. And the boat continues sailing in the air for a few more seconds.

But then what remains of Frigga dissipates and floats upward as the boat drops downward.

At the Bifrost Bridge, Heimdall also looks on as the people push the light they carry up into the skies.

At the same time in the dungeons, A guard walks up to Loki as he read and tells him the news. Loki just nods before the guard walks away.

Loki puts the book down, stands, and slowly walks to the center of his cell. He just stands for a few seconds.

But then instantly, his fists clench and his shoulders tense up as everything in the room is pushed against the walls.

And the lights flicker.

----- November 13th, 2013 - Asgard -----

The next day, Fandral and Odin inspect the damage to the palace where Malekith had crashed his ship. While unbeknownst to them, Y/N silently examines the ship itself behind them.

"We are still unable to restore the palace shields. Our artillery cannot detect them, even Heimdall cannot see them. My King, we are all but defenseless," Fandral explains.

Before Odin responds, Thor approaches them from behind, "She's your prisoner now?," he turns to Fandral and the guards, "Leave us."

They all start walking off and leave Thor with Odin.

"I do not wish to fight with you."

They make their way towards the ship, eventually noticing Y/N, when Thor tells his father, "Nor I with you, but I intend to pursue Malekith."

"We possess the Aether. Malekith will come to us."

"Yes, and he will destroy us."

"You overestimate the power of these creatures," Odin dismissively tells Thor.

"No, I value our peoples lives. I'll take Jane to the Dark World and draw the enemy away from Asgard. When Malekith pulls the Aether from Jane it will be exposed and vulnerable, and I will destroy it and him."

Odin turns to face him, his back toward the ship, "And if you fail, you risk this weapon falling into the hands of our enemies."

"The risk is far greater if we do nothing. His ship could be over our heads right now and we'd never even know it."

"If and when he comes, his men will fall by ten thousand Asgardian blades."

"And how many of our men shall fall on theirs?"

"As many as are needed!," Odin shouts, causing Y/N to glance in their direction, "We will fight! Until the last Asgardian breath, Till the last drop of Asgardian blood."

"...Then how are you different from Malekith?"

Odin dryly chuckles at that, "The difference, my son, is that I will win."

Without giving a response, Thor turns and walks off, Leaving Odin standing there.

He hears a huff from behind him. He turns to see Y/N standing there, not looking at him but still at the ship. Odin turns to leave but Y/N speaks as he does so.

"How can you be the All-Father when you aren't even a good father?"
