Attack on Nick Fury

----- January 9th, 2014 - Washington D.C -----

Fury drives down the street in a black SUV.

As he drives though an intersection, the on board AI announces, "Activating communications encryption protocol."

"Open secure line 0405," he tells it.

"Confirmed."

A holographic display appears in the corner of the windshield. It was the image of Maria Hill along with her full name just under it.

"This is Hill," she answers.

"I need you here in D.C. Deep.. shadow conditions."

"...Give me four hours."

"You have three. Over," he tells her.

The call comes to an end as he pulls up to a stoplight. A police car stops on his right. He looks over at them before doing a double take, noticing them staring directly at him.

Now I could think of a few reasons why a couple.. white.. police officers may stare at a... black... man in a car.

"Want to see my lease?," Fury sarcastically asks them.

It seems Fury had the same thought process.

The Officers blare their siren as they drive away. Maybe that was the reason. So Fury starts to drive off...

But he was wrong.

Barely a few feet foward, and a car had rammed into him. He was rammed against a few poles alongside the road. Quickly the Cops from earlier and two more Police Cruisers run into the other side of him.

Essentially locking him in that one place.

"Fracture detected. Recommend anesthetic injection. D.C Metro Police dispatch shows no units in this area," The AI starts spouting out.

Fury grabs the anesthetic from the glovebox. He jabs it in his arm as SWAT vans and more Patrols surround the outside.

"Get me out of here!," He tells the AI.

They start firing and unloading rounds from their M4 Carbines into the drivers side of the SUV. It's a good thing Fury's car is armored.

Luckily, he was paranoid and untrusting enough to do that.

That is to say, pretty much.. it's lucky that cat scratched him.

"Propulsion systems offline."

"Then reboot, damn it!," he yells.

A Holographic display pop ups on the Windshield. It shows the Car and the percentage of the armors integrity.

80%

They stop firing.

Fury looks over to see why.

Four SWAT hop out of the van with a battering ram. The place it in front of the drivers window as Fury stares at it. He had blood dripping from his nose.

"Warning. Window integrity compromised."

"You think?" Fury ask sarcastically before pulling himself over to the passengers seat, "How long till propulsion?"

"Calculating."

The Battering Ram digs it's legs into the concrete below before priming back. It then forcefully swings into the window. The car tilt to the side a bit but ultimately drops back down.

A cascading crack in the shape of a web is now in the center of the window.

"Window integrity 31%. Deploying countermeasures."

"Hold that order!," Fury tells it.

The Ram pulls back again, then hits the window once more. The window now bent inward at the point of impact.

"Window integrity 19%. Offensive measures advised."

"Wait!," he shouts.

The SWAT team moves closer with their guns aimed center at the almost shattered window. The Ram pulls back one last time.

But it doesn't get the chance to to go.

"Window integrity 1%."

"Now!," Fury yells.

The center of the car opens up, and a machine gun pops up in front of him.

So anyway, Fury started blasting.

The window shattered as shots broke through it. First the SWAT lined up in front of him. Then the cops behind their cars.

There was even a grenade launcher attached, so he shot one at the SWAT van. When it explodes, it takes the two cars right next to it with it. One car flips into the air and lands on the hood of another.

"Propulsion systems now online."

Fury continues to fire, "Full acceleration! Now!"

The car starts backing up, then rams through the remaining Officers. They speed off leaving the Cops in the dust.

"Initiate vertical takeoff!," Fury says.

"Flight systems damaged."

Fury hops back over to the wheel, "Then activate guidance cameras! Give me the wheel!"

As he speed and weaves through cars, a couple officers show up on his tail. They follow closely behind him.

"Get me Agent Hill!"

Unfortunately, the AI informs, "Communications array damaged."

"Well, what's not damaged?"

The AI waits a moment before telling him, "Air conditioning is fully operational."

The Police behind him close in closer behind him.

"Traffic ahead," says the AI.

"Give me an alternate route!"

The AI quickly does a scan, "Traffic alert on Roosevelt Bridge. All vehicles stopped. 17th Avenue clear in three blocks, directly ahead."

Fury rams into a truck, knocking it off the road. He then hits into two more cars as he drives past them. They swerve and stop, creating a roadblock for the Police behind him.

But they just ram through them without care.

One car manages to speed up next to him. They pull out a SMG and start firing in through the damaged window.

Fury leans back as the bullets fly through in front of him. He speeds up a bit before swerving and bashing into the cop hanging out the Cruiser. Said cop was now leaning into his SUV.

The cop fires as Fury grabs and pushes the gun with one hand. The other car pulls up on his other side.

Now both Cruisers were pressing into each side of the SUV.

"Warning. Approaching intersection."

Fury hits the brake, causing the Two Cop cars to crash into a behemoth of a truck.

...More like get crashed into.

Fury swerves and turns the corner, "Get me off the grid!"

"Calculating route to secure location."

Fury looks ahead and through the bullet holes plaguing his windshield.

A man was in the road. Slowly walking toward him, gun in hand. Fury's eyes widen as the man lifts and aims.

He shoots.

A disk like object shoots out and drops down. It attaches itself to the underside of Fury's SUV.

The disk explodes causing Fury to flip over while barreling straight at the man. When it gets close enough, he sidesteps it. The car slides along the road for quite a few more feet.

The man slowly walks towards him.

Fury groans as he looks out the window to see him make his way. Fury goes to pull out an object from the glovebox when he hears a boom.

He looks back out the window to see clothe just in front of him. But the wind lifts the clothe cape up to reveal a pair a feet between the car and the man in black.

It was Y/N.

The man in black stops when he sees him. They stare at each other for a moment.

A grin forms on Y/N's face before he hops up and takes a seat on top of the flipped SUV. He takes off his sunglasses and places them on his neckline.

"Nice goggles, but I'm afraid I can't let you continue," Y/N says to the man.

The man just stares.

Eventually he lifts his gun again and fires a disk at Y/N.

Y/N just catches it in his hand.

It explodes, enveloping the area in more smoke. The man continues walking as the smoke dissipates.

He stops when he hears coughing. The smoke soon becomes thin enough to see through.

He sees Y/N still sitting there.

Y/N hops off the car and walks toward him, "Nice one, but I think I can do better."

Before he realized it, Y/N had front kicked him back and through a building.

Y/N then turns back to the car to see Fury crawling out.

"You had a party without me?," Y/N jokingly asks.

Y/N walks closer to him with a fake frown as his face. He puts his sunglasses back on.

Fury forces out a chuckle, "Maybe don't disappear for two years and you'll be invited to the next one.. You gonna fly me out of here?"

Y/N shakes his head near violently, "Hell no, Even if I moved at the speed of a car, you wouldn't be able to handle all the sharp turns and such."

And so the two of them just make their way down the street. Fury limping along next to Y/N as his cape flowed in the wind.

Fury caught him up on some things, though most he was surprisingly already aware of.

__________

Hours had passed, as Steve pulls up to his apartment.

He makes his way up the stairs as the his neighbor, who he knows as Kate, comes out her apartment with a laundry bin. She was on the phone.

"So sweet. That is so nice. I got to go, though. Okay. Bye," she hangs up before turning to Steve, "My aunt, she's kind of an insomniac.. Yeah..."

Steve just smiles at her, before noticing the laundry she was carrying.

"Hey, if you want... If you want, you're welcome to use my machine. Might be cheaper than the one in the basement," he tells her.

She smiles at him and jokingly asks, "Oh Yeah? What's it cost?"

"..A cup of coffee?"

"...Thank you, but I-I already have a load in downstairs, and you really don't want my scrubs in your machine.. I just finished a rotation in the infectious disease ward, so..."

Steve jokingly puts his hands up, "Well, I'll keep my distance."

"Hopefully, not too far," She turns to leave before quickly turning back, "Oh, And I think you left your stereo on."

"Oh.. Right.. Thank you," Steve mumbles as she walks away.

He waits for her to go down the stairs as he thinks to himself. He definitely didn't leave his stereo on.

He sharply turns back to his door. When he presses an ear against it, he can hear the stereo blasting loudly.

It was playing 'It's Been A Long Long Time - Harry James and Helen Forrest'.

Steve leaves the building and sneaks around to a window. He slowly pries it open and steps inside to the kitchen. Steve quickly grabs his shield that was leaning against the wall.

He then slowly makes his way to the living room.

As he comes up to the corner, he peaks over.

The first thing he notices is Fury sitting in a reclining chair in the corner. Steve finally takes the view of the entire room, somehow finally noticing Y/N there.

He was in the center of the room. His eyes were closed, glasses not tinted. He was spinning and moving his arms to the music.

"I don't remember giving you a key," he says to Fury.

"You really think I'd need one?," Fury groans as he leans forward in the chair, "..My wife kicked me out.. I'm lucky Y/N found me after I.. got kicked out.."

They look over to Y/N, who wasn't paying attention. He was in his own world. His fingers were faintly glowing a light green as they swayed.

"Didn't know you were married," Steve says.

"A lot of things you don't know about me."

"I know, Nick. That's the problem," Steve turns on the light, causing Y/N to stop and finally notice them.

Steve sees the blood on Fury. Fury just holds a hand out to signal him to be quiet before turning the light back off. He then quickly types something onto his phone

Fury turns the phone to Steve.

'Ears Everywhere'

Steve glances over to Y/N. He was just looking at him as if he already knew. Now that Steve looks at him, he notices how tired Y/N looks.

Steve then looks around the apartment, as if just realizing the place is bugged.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash," Fury tells him.

Fury types something on his phone once more, before showing it to Steve.

'SHEILD Compromised'

"Who else knows about your wife?"

"Just... My friends," He tells him before showing him something else written on his phone and standing.

'The Three Of Us.'

"Is that what we are?"

"That's up to you."

Before anyone else adds more, a shot is fired through the window.

It hits Fury and he drops to the ground. Steve and Y/N quickly drag Fury into the kitchen.

Steve goes to run after the attacker but Fury grabs his arm.

Fury hands him the USB and manages to spit out, "Don't.. trust... anyone."

Behind them, the door is kicked down. Steve looks over the corner to see the woman from earlier.

"Captain Rogers?.. Captain, I'm Agent 13 of SHIELD Special Service," she says out loud.

"Kate?," Steve asks, confused.

"I'm assigned to protect you."

"On whose order?!"

She turns the corner to see Fury on the ground in front of Y/N as he checks on him, "...His."

She pulls out a radio, "Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMTs."

"Do we have a 20 on the shooter?," a voice asks.

Steve looks out the window to see the man in black on a rooftop, "Tell him I'm in pursuit. Y/N, you coming?"

Y/N looks over at him, "No.. No, you got it."

He looks down at Fury, surprisingly calm. One of his ears twitches as if he hears something.

Meanwhile, Steve runs and jumps through his window to the window of the other building. He rolls as he lands and continues in full sprint.

As he chases after the man, he looks upward to see him through a window on the ceiling. He busts down a door. When he turns a corner, he does so by kicking off the wall to maintain momentum.

He definitely learned that from Y/N.

Steve busts through a glass wall then vaults over a desk. He turns another corner, this time bouncing off his shield.

He's barreling down a hallway towards a window. Just outside he sees the man drop from above onto the next building. Steve charges and jumps out that window as well.

Steve rolls and when he comes back up, he hurls his shield at the man.

The man reaches the edge of the building.

But before jumping, he sharply turns and catches the shield.

His arm was metallic with a star just below the shoulder.

The man winds up and throws the shield back. Steve catches it but is sent scraping along the floor a couple feet.

When Steve looks back up, the man was gone.

__________

Steve was an observation room at the Hospital. Y/N was off... somewhere in the building.

A few seconds go by when Natasha bursts in through the door. They stand, looking into the operating room where Fury was, for a few moments.

"Is he gonna make it?," she asks Steve.

"..I don't know," he admits.

"Tell me about the shooter."

"He's fast.. Strong.. Had a metal arm."

Maria Hill approaches next to them.

"Ballistics?"

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable," Hill tells them.

"..Soviet-made."

Fury's heartbeat starts spiking, as Y/N stealthily and quietly makes his way into the room. He slowly walks over to the window and stands just in between Natasha and Steve.

He pulls something out of his pocket.

It was a juicebox.

So as the doctors pull out the defibrillator, Y/N stands there trying to get the straw into the hole.

"Don't do this to me, Nick," Natasha says, still unaware of Y/N.

"Stand back! Three, two, one! Clear," The doctor sends a shock to Fury's heart, "Pulse?!"

"No pulse."

"Okay, 200, please! Stand back! Three, two, one. Clear! Get me epinephrine!"

"Pulse?!"

"Negative."

Unfortunately, He starts flatlining. Steve leaves the room as Hill and Natasha stood there holding back tears.

Eventually the two of them hear a slurping noise.

They look over to see Y/N, drinking from his juicebox. Natasha was shocked he was there. Soon Y/N looks over at them as he slowly stops drinking.

He just smiles and waves.

__________

Steve was standing against a wall with Y/N just next to him. Natasha was looking down at Fury on a gurney.

Hill walks in the room and eventually says, "..I need to take him."

"Natasha," Steve calls after he moves toward her.

She ignores him, and just leaves the room. Steve follows after her. Y/N looks at Fury then to Hill, who nods, before following after them.

"Natasha!," Steve calls as Y/N catches up.

Natasha sharply turns, "...Why was Fury in your apartment?"

"I don't know," Steve tells her.

Natasha looks at Y/N expecting an answer.

Y/N shrugs, "I don't know. I showed up at the same time as Steve. Haven't seen him in two years and all."

Rumlow approached them from behind, "Cap, Superman, they want the two of you back at S.H.I.E.L.D."

"Yeah, give us a second," Steve says.

"They want you now."

"He said give us a sec," Y/N says as he glares at Rumlow, his eyes glowing red momentarily.

Rumlow quickly backs away as the two of them turn back to Natasha.

"You're both terrible liars," Natasha tells them, finishing their conversation.

She then walks away.

Y/N's ear twitches as he looks up toward the ceiling for a moment. When he looks back down, he notices Steve putting the USB in a vending machine.

When Steve was finished the two of them made their way toward Rumlow. He then starts walking beside them as they exit the Building.

"S.T.R.I.K.E., move it out."
