Passion

Inside this strange place, everything had seemed so much like a dream for Feng Jiu.

For a number of years, she had selflessly loved Dong Hua, till the point that she had accomplished a state of becoming 'severely annoying' and obstinately insisting to tag along with him in Taichen Palace. Unwittingly, due to her naivety at such a young age, she had caused him to be injured by the monster in the Evil-Locking Pagoda. All those years that she was painstakingly in love with him, she had merely wished for one chance to be with him. Her prayers had been answered when that one chance had been presented to her during his mortal trial, where she had spent ten short mortal years with him, only for it to end badly with him dying of heartbreak due to one careless move by her and Si Ming. Sadly, Si Ming had revealed at the end that the trial had been his way of returning her love since they would never be fated.

At least, Dong Hua had spoken his mind. If he had not erased his own name from the Rock, probably, they would be reaping an eternal life of bliss right now. Or maybe, had she been with a god of such an age, that would not be an 'eternal' life after all. She had studied in the academy about the process of feathering of the Father God, the father of her aunt's master, the High God Mo Yuan, and the god Zu Ti. Then there was the demon ancestor Shao Wan, who had been said to be in a state of eternal sleep. She had feared that day would come, and she would be pained by his departure.

But the matter at hand was how they had somehow ended in some strange place, with no means of returning home, because their magic simply didn't work. They had been trapped. Dong Hua was the most powerful god in the universe, and yet, he had fallen prey to some dark magic that had transported them individually to this peculiar land.

If they were trapped in a dream, how could they wake up and return to their world? The Four Seas and Eight Deserts, the Sky Kingdom, and the Realms needed Dong Hua. Qing Qiu needed her to be their able queen.

"What should we do, Di Jun?"

He shrugged with a cold smile. "I don't know."

For the first time when she was with him, Dong Hua was actually starting to show emotions, stemming from the tiniest tinge of hope in his eyes. She fathomed clearly that in the past, he was sparing her from the unnecessary pain of heartbreak by not admitting his feelings for her, but as time went by in this strange place, he would eventually reveal his true colours. It was just a matter of time.

They wandered aimlessly about the place for days, until they finally arrived at a lake where they had a long drink of water. There had been no signs of mortal or immortal life, and she feared that it was going to be a long journey for the two of them. Albeit her panicky and innocent tendencies, Feng Jiu had to constantly remind herself that she had to think positively, and not give up on any chances for their escape. She was about to be a queen now, and she could not continue being immature like she used to be in the past. The battle of Ruoshi had changed her tremendously.

Perhaps they were in some maze, and there had to be a way out, they just needed to find it, she told herself. After conducting some searching, she found herself surprisingly lethargic. Upon leaving the lake, they came to settle down at a large meadow with exotic flowers of distinct varieties and colours. Still not knowing why she was tired after just some browsing around, Feng Jiu decided to cave in to her playful self and take a break from their search by losing herself in the natural beauty of the flora and fauna before her eyes.

Dong Hua observed her frolicking happily among the flowers, realizing he had never had the chance to see her so joyful before. All of a sudden, she stopped abruptly and broke down, while tears streamed down her face, greatly puzzling him. He reached into his pocket to look for his handkerchief to offer her, and all of a sudden, his fingers came across something soft. It was a handful of peach blossoms. He didn't recall having that in his pocket earlier.

As Feng Jiu loved flowers, he immediately offered Feng Jiu one of the blossoms, which led to her ceasing her crying for a moment and gazing at him with her round and wondrous eyes. Immediately, without a change in composure, he merely held her close to him. Albeit they couldn't use their magic in this world, he had to do all he could to protect her and keep her safe.

"Feng Jiu, nothing will happen to us."

She remembered him say to her, the very exact words, when they were at the battle of Ruoshi and she had been grievously injured. They had ended safe then, and she miraculously survived. Again, she took his words for it.

I love you, Dong Hua, she thought, and tried her best to smile for him. He stood watching her from the small distance between them, and she saw him smile as well. Then she reached out, and took his hand shyly.

"Di Jun, you've never played like this before?"

He shook his head momentarily, and she dragged him into the meadow to play among the flowers. He had lived a very grave and serious life, with such a noble duty to the universe, that he had lost count of time. Yet, this time, he felt that he was incredibly at ease with this little fox who was at his side for what seemed like thousands of years. Hundreds of thousands of years of cultivation were nothing, compared to spending such joyous moments with the little fox.

He was bored of his life and had been exhausted from having to help Hao De and clear up all the mess he had created and often left behind for others. If not for Ye Hua's sacrifice, he would have probably made a much better and decent ruler.

For now, he just wanted to spend together with this little fox, all the entire time they were trapped in this mousetrap. She had even nicknamed it the Green Plains. No words could describe how glad he was right now, and he had hidden his feelings so well from her in the past.

That wasn't necessary now. He didn't know why, but he found that he couldn't hold back his feelings and hide them as easily as he used to, in the past. Perhaps, he was getting old.

He caught her swiftly in his arms as she fell while they were playing, or rather, she was playing and dragging him around the grassy regions, and this time, it was him who initiated the kiss. It had been so tortuous for him to keep all his feelings buried inside his heart for so long, and now, each of his emotions he had meticulously kept hidden so well, was starting to erupt from his chest.

There had to be something wrong with this place. Firstly, Feng Jiu had been suddenly crying out of no reason, and secondly, his long-hidden emotions were gradually starting to reveal themselves. He had kissed her, and for the second time since being in the Green Plains. His icicles were starting to melt, and he was beginning to feel the warmth of a blossoming romance between them. Although he had already started to have feelings for her in the past, he was able to manage them then. Now, it was growing within his heart, and the emptiness in his heart was being replaced with more desire and enthusiasm, something he had not thought himself to be capable of, particularly after he had been alone all these years, and after making that tough and mindless decision back then.

If this continued, he might lose all his self-control.

Everything fell silent as they rolled together on the soft grass in a passionate kiss. They heard nothing but their own breathing, as everything appeared to come to a standstill.

Only she mattered, now.
