CHAPTER SIX.
movie night

LOLA TIP-TOED INTO HER HOUSE THE NEXT MORNING, HOPING ANDRE WOULDN'T WAKE UP AND QUESTION HER. She knew he'd think she was crazy for staying with Nathan twenty-four-seven. Once she grew an attachment for someone, it was hard to let them out of her sight easily. And the boy could only count on his friends these days due to him not getting along with his parents very well, so she sort of felt like she had to.

As she goes to walk out of the living room, a light is suddenly turned on, causing her to squeeze her eyes tightly shut and stop in her steps. Moving her body in his direction, she sees Andre perched up comfortably on their love seat, the man had obviously fallen asleep there which caused guilt to swim to the surface.

"As much as I wanna scold you right now for not coming by to see me so I could check on you, I'm glad you and the boys are alright." Andre didn't have any anger in his voice, just tiredness.

Lola lightly smiled, plopping down on the couch and throwing her dirty clothes onto the floor. "Thanks. Seeing Nathan crash and almost die, I couldn't leave his side. So, sorry for worrying you, but I was too scared to come home until he was released."

"I know. And I get it, sis, I don't hold it against you for caring so much. It's one of your best traits, I just wish it was you calling me to say you're okay instead of your friend that likes to snap at me all the time."

Lola laughed, dimples on display as she visualized Brooke standing with her hands on her hips, bossing her brother around. "Okay, I'll start checking in more. I promise."

"Good. I have a day off, you wanna do something?" Andre seemed hopeful, which caused her heart to break.

"I was actually going to check up on Nathan before we headed over to Tric for a movie night later." She watched as his face fell at her words. "But, you could just meet us there?"

He nodded. "Yeah. I'll do that. But, you'll have the car, so how am I gonna get there?"

"Oh, right. I'll pick you up."

Lola opens Nathan's door to his apartment, not even caring to knock as she walks in to see him on one foot, hopping inside the kitchen, a phone at his ear. With wide eyes, she throws her bag onto his couch and goes to grab his body as he almost toppled over onto the ground. His body was a lot heavier than she was expecting, but with all her strength, she slowly lifted him, trying not to hit his hurt leg.

She sat him on his kitchen chair, "Do you have a death wish or something? You need to be more careful, Nate." She noticed his body tense. "What's wrong, are you hurt?"

"No, no." He shook his head, his hazel eyes meeting her brown ones. "It's just, you've never called me that before." Only in my dream, he almost said out loud.

Lola laughed, "I'm sorry, do you not like it, cause I can totaโ€”"

He interrupted her by grabbing her hand, "I love it." A smile broke out on his face at the sigh that fell from her lips.

Someone suddenly opens the door, the two quickly looking up to see who it was. Dan fucking Scott. "Oh, what do we have here?" He mused, watching the two break away. "Already moving on from Haley, son? I'm so proud of you! She's definitely better looking."

Lola went to call the man out for putting another woman down, but Nathan grabbed her thigh from under the table where his father couldn't see, trying to tell her he's got it. "What do you want, dad?"

Dan looked over at Lola like he didn't want her apart of their conversation, but he dropped it, not wanting to hate him even more. "I came to see if you wanted to move home. Just until you're back on your feet."

"Forget it, alright? I don't want your help, I just want to move on with my life."

"In that case, I can help." Dan handed him an orange paper that contained what everyone could guess.

Nathan grabs it, scanning the words, Lola biting her lip as she waited his reaction. "What is this, divorce papers?"

"Annulment." The older man corrected him. "Any judge who sees how young you are will say you weren't in your right mind when you married. If you don't sign those papers, why drag Haley down with you? As long as you're married to her, she's also responsible for your debt.

The boy gave him a look, "You don't give a rats ass about Haley. This," He clutched the papers. "Is what you want."

This time, Lola was the one to put her hand on his thigh, rubbing up and down to soothe him, hoping to calm his anger that was starting to rise.

"She made her choice and it wasn't you. Why hang on?"

Nathan slammed the paper into the man's chest, "Get out." His father went to protest, but the boy stood his ground. "Leave. I hit you once, dad, and I don't have a problem doing it again."

Lola crossed her legs, the sudden rise of his voice causing her to feel different things. She definitely shouldn't be feeling this way towards her friend.

Dan clenched his jaw, setting the papers back on the counter. "Just in case."

Once he was gone, Lola looked towards Nathan to see him glancing down at the paper, deep in thought. "If getting a divorce is something that you want, then you should do it for yourself. Not for Dan. That man just tried to guilt you into falling for his shit and I'm glad you saw through him."

"I'm not sure what I want." He admitted, glancing over towards her.

She smiled lightly, "That's completely fine, you have time to figure it out." Glancing at the clock she suddenly gasps. "Speaking of time, I'm late for my shopping spree with Brooke and Peyton. You gonna be alright by yourself?"

"Yeah. Lucas is coming over anyways."

Nodding, she gets up from the chair and kisses his head. "Okay, me and Andre will come pick you up in a few hours. Don't miss me too much, yeah?"

He laughed, "Shut up." But, he already missed her once she walked out the door.

"Oh my gosh, guys, I'm so sorry I'm late." Lola rushed into the store, shoes rubbing against the floor as she made her way towards them. "I went to check up on Nathan and ran into the devil himself, a.k.a, Dan Scott."

Brooke hummed as she grabbed a bright colored tank-top, "Seems like you've been spending a lot of time together with Nathan lately."

Lola looked over towards Peyton, who raised her hands in the air as if she didn't know why the brunette was randomly questioning her. Peyton gripped her best friend's arm, "I thought we were talking about you and Lucas, Brooke. Don't try to deflect the attention off you."

Thank god for Peyton Sawyer.

"Damn it. I thought it'd work." Brooke grumbled, facing the two instead of the shirt. "We are just friends. That's it."

"Okay, all I'm saying is on the off chance that... you wanted more... I think it would be great."

Lola nodded, "I agree."

"Really?" She looked between the two before her sights stayed on Peyton's. "You're not afraid the three of us will get sucked back down into the Bermuda Triangle of drama?"

Brooke told Lola all about the situation that happened last year between the three. How he was with her when he decided to cheat with Peyton. It was something Lola told herself that if it happened again, she'd bitch slap Peyton into the next state over.

The blonde rolled her eyes, "No, not this time. One thing I learned from all this Jake craziness is you've gotta grab every second you have with the people you love."

Brooke smiled brightly, bringing her two friends into a group hug. "I love you guys!" She must've taken Peyton's words to heart and decided to start early.

"We love you too!" Lola laughed, Peyton joining in as they pulled away. "Now, let's actually shop. And as a treat to you two being my friends, I'll buy you each a shirt."

Brooke gasped, quickly rushing away from them, causing the other girls to burst into tears at how much they had laughed.

The atmosphere surrounding the inside of Tric was amazing once Lola and the two boys had walked in. A bunch of people sat in their seats, others walking around and getting drinks. Rock music blasted through some speakers as Andre made his way to take an empty seat before someone else did. Lola looked up at the boy to see his awe expression.

"Is it everything you thought it was going to be?" She asked him.

"I didn't think this many people would show up." He admitted, his eyes sparkling in happiness.

She laughed quietly, "Of course, we all care for you, Nate. There's no where else we'd rather be."

The music suddenly cuts out and Peyton takes the stage, capturing everyone's attention. "Hey, everybody, you guys ready for some movies?" Cheers and claps break the silence. "Good. Well, then grab some snacks, stretch out, and we're gonna kick things off with a couple cartoons."

Nathan took a seat near the bar where Lucas was, his crutches supporting him, along with Lola as she stands at his side. Mouth presses play on the projector, a man inside a car popping up.

"The number one killer of young people, is traffic accidents." The scene changes to a wreckage on a road. "And that's got to be one of the biggest and grossest wastes of human life."

Gasps were heard around the place, not expecting something like this to be shown. Especially since this fundraiser was for Nathan and he literally just got back from an accident.

"Nate, I'm so sorry, man. This isn't what we planned." Lucas tried this best to make the boy feel better.

Nathan laughed and shook his head, "Are you kidding me? This is awesome! Turn it up!" He shouted, the other teenagers following after him.

Lola and Lucas shared an incredible looks together, surprised he'd want to see something as brutal as this.

An hour later, a different movie is on display as Lola walks around, trying to see where Nathan ran off. She finds the boy leaning on his tall crutches, a sad look stewed upon his face as he stares at the different couples talking or making out.

"Not having a good time?" She spoke up from beside him, causing the boy to jump in shock at her voice. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you."

He kept his sights in front of him, "Not really. I kinda read a letter my mom wrote me from rehab. And being surrounded by all this people having a great day just makes me want to be somewhere else."

"Well, then why don't we get out of here? I can drive you home and I'll help you clean up since it was a shit show earlier, not offense."

He chuckled, "None taken. And yes, let's go home."

Home. That word pulled at her heartstrings even though it shouldn't. Clearing her throat, she texts Andre to let him know she'd be back later to get him and she leads the way outside, Nathan following after her.
