CHAPTER THREE.
wedding bells & drunken fails

Β  Β  Β  Β  AS LOLA FINISHED UP THE PANCAKES SHE WAS CURRENTLY MAKING, SHE REALIZED THAT TODAY WAS A WEEKEND AND SHE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GIVE BROOKE HER CAR BACK. A weird thing for her to randomly think about when making breakfast, but her mind was all over the place. Like, the fact that she had Nathan Scott laying in her bed, sleeping in from last night's events. The man is literally married and he's just comfortably taking a snooze in her room. Life is definitely weird as hell.

Putting last touches on the pancakes, Lola grabs the tray, making her way towards her room. It's Saturday, which meant Andre was only going to be at work for a few hours, so she'd have to get Nathan out of the house before he comes back. Her boots rub against the doorframe, kicking it open, as she walks in to see the boy laying on his stomach, his muscular back on display.

Clearing her throat of the dirty thoughts that tried to sneak through her mind, Lola puts the tray beside the bed, on the nightstand. Her small hands grasp Nathan's upper arm and shakes him back and forth, trying to get him to wake. "Nathan, it's time to get up."

He groaned, turning over and opening his eyes, blinking rapidly as he tried to take in the bright light. Blue meets brown and he almost yells, forgetting that he had fallen asleep at the new girl's house. Raising up quickly, he grabs at his hair, "Uh, morning."

Lola laughed, "Good morning, sleepyhead. Here, I made you some breakfast." She takes the tray from the stand and hands it to him, settling it on his lap that was still under the covers.

"You didn't have to do that." Nathan mumbled, hands clutching at the fork, taking small bites from the food. "Di β€” did you sleep on the bed with me too?"

She shook her head, "No, I made a pallet on the floor. How'd you sleep?"

"Pretty good considering the shitty night I had..." Nathan trailed off, suddenly remembering everything he said to the girl and the fact that he had cried in front of her. His cheeks burn a bright red, "I'm sorry about last night. You know, the whole being a dick thing and saying those terrible things to you."

Lola hummed, actually enjoying sober Nathan. "It's fine. I know you're going through a lot and drinking is the only way you know how to cope. But, now that we had an intimate conversation, I'd hope this makes us friends."

Nathan looked over at her and slowly nodded, "Sure. I'm not too sure I have many of them these days, so I'm down."

"Good. I need some more too." Lola bent down and grabbed his shirt, handing it to him. "Are you going to Keith's wedding today?"

Everyone around town was invited to Keith Scott's wedding and Lola definitely wasn't missing it. Getting to dress up all pretty and attending a service where two people in love get married is something she didn't get to do everyday.

He pulled a face, "Ugh, that's today? No, I'm not going."

She took a seat in front of him on the bed, "Why not? Isn't he your uncle?"

"Yeah he is, but love is a joke. It won't last, marriages never do." He grumbled, finishing his food and putting it off to the side, throwing his shirt.

"Nathan, love isn't a joke. It's what keeps us going everyday. And marriages do last, it depends on the person you decide to spend the rest of your life with. You and Haley are still together, right?"

He shrugged, "We are, technically, but she left me. Doesn't that mean she doesn't wanna be with me anymore?"

Lola thought he looked like a kicked puppy as he avoided her eyes. It was kinda cute. "No, it doesn't. She's trying to live her life, she can't always be caught up with you. Do you really expect her to sit back and watch as you excelle with basketball and not do the one thing she wants to do too? That's not how it works in a relationship, there's two of you and you need to learn how to work together."

"Woah, you sure do know a lot about relationships." Nathan got up from the bed, actually taking time out of his day to fix the comforter.

She stood up as well and laughed, "Would it come as a surprise to you if I said I've actually never been in one before?"

"Really?" He turned towards her, laughing at the face she made. "Why not?"

He didn't mention the one thing he was going to say, which was that she's beautiful, how could she possibly not have found someone?

"Just really didn't have the time with the stuff I was going through." She mumbled, but just loud enough for him to hear. Clearing her throat, she decides to change the subject. "Do you want me to take you home?"

"Uh, yeah," He noticed the quick change in subject. "That'd be great, thanks."

Lola nodded and grabbed Brooke's keys, walking out of the house as Nathan followed. Getting into the car, she straps the seatbelt around herself and forces Nathan to do the same, not caring if he complained.

It didn't take long to make it to his house, about four minutes, and she parked the car outside the apartment building. "I'll see you later, yeah?"

He paused at the open door and looked in her direction. If he says no, he'll feel like shit, because she's been really nice to him. "Yeah, see you later. And uh, thanks for today, it meant a lot." He definitely won't forget.

"You're welcome. If you ever need anything, just call me. I put my number in your phone this morning." With that, she watched him walk away before pulling out of the parking lot and driving back home.

Flopping down on her couch, Lola sighs in content before looking over at her brother who must've shown up after she dropped Nathan off. "You wouldn't mind being my plus one at Keith Scott's wedding so you? I know you've been working your ass off, but I wanted you to meet my friends. And you they have free food and booze, that's a bonus."

"I guess," Andre paused the television, glancing over at her. "When is it?"

"In a few hours. We'll be taking separate cars though, cause I gotta give my friend's back to her that she let me borrow last night." Lola had texted Brooke a little bit ago and she just replied with exchanging at the wedding. Apparently, she's going with Lucas.

The black haired girl secretly wanted them together. She'd heard about the famous stories of Brucas from the different students and it honestly made her swoon.

"Alright. Let's just find a movie to watch for now and relax." He propped his feet up on the coffee table. "How was the party last night?"

"Definitely eventful, but I made a new friend." She lightly smiled, thinking about Nathan and wondering what he was currently doing.

"That's amazing, I'm proud of you." Andre smiled. "Sounds like it was a good idea to move here."

She looked away from him, "I think so, too."

After getting their showers, the two siblings currently stood in the hallway, looking at their outfits in the mirror. Lola finished up the last little bits left of her makeup, before looking at herself through the reflection. She felt really pretty.

"Wow, you like just like mom, Paloma." Andrew whispered.

Tears gathered in her eyes at the sudden nickname her mother used to refer to her as fell from his lips. "Thank you. You look just like dad. It's kind of hard to see you in a tux without thinking of their wedding night."

"I know." He grabbed her hand and squeezed, reassuring the girl. "It's gonna keep being hard as each day passes, but we're in this together. And eventually, it'll get better."

She smiled, eyes sparkling at his sweet words. "I love you, Hermano."

"I love you too," He wipes the tears that fells from her eyes. "Now, let's get out of here before you ruin your makeup completely."

Lola laughed, nodding as she grabbed her bag and the car keys, heading straight for the door with him trailing behind her. It felt weird getting into Brooke's car again, especially since the last time she was in here, Nathan had been with her and without him, it was kind of lonely.

Thankfully, this was a small ass town, so it didn't take them too long to arrive at the church, other cars pulling up at the same time as them, some already there.

Lola stepped out of the car and pulled her dress down a little since it had rose up while she drove. Andre parked behind her and she walked over to him and grabbed his arm as he got out of the grey car, wrapping her arm around his. They walk into the chapel and run straight into Brooke and who she could only assume was the brunette's other friend, Peyton.

"Holy crap, you look like a freaking Goddess, Lola!" Brooke exclaimed, pulling the girl into a hug as she took in her outfit. "I wish I looked as hot as you do."

"Oh please, you're a Goddess yourself, Brooke." Lola laughed, pulling away as she met her brother's eyes. "Brooke, this is my brother, Andre."

Andre shook her hand, "It's great to finally put a face to the name. Nice to meet you."

"You too." Brooke then noticed pager blonde friend standing awkwardly with Jake at her side. "Oh! Peyton this is my new friend I was telling you about. Lola, this is Peyton."

Peyton nodded from where she stood clinging to Jake. "Hi, I love your shoes."

"Thanks! I love your hair, it's beautiful." Lola responded, smiling lightly at the girl.

Their cute moment was cut off by shouting. Giving each other looks of confusion, they follow the voice outside where everyone else was standing to see Nathan shouting things towards his parents, stumbling while trying to get the point across.

"What the hell?" Lola mumbled. He was doing fine this morning, what could've possibly set the boy off this much for him to try and ruin his own uncle's wedding.

Lucas finally stepped between the father and son due just as it was about to get violent. "Hey, hey! Don't do this to Keith, alright, not here."

Something snapped in Lola, so she rushed towards the two boy's, ignoring her brother's shouts as she grabs ahold of Nathan's right side, Lucas clutching at his left as they moved him away from the prying eyes.

Lucas nodded at her in thanks before his attention fell back onto his brother as they continued walking, "What's going on, man?"

"She said she was with Chris on national tv." He spat out, huffing as he tried to catch his breath from all of the yelling just a few seconds ago. "It's really over, huh?"

"Only if you say it is." Lucas replied.

Nathan let out a sigh as he tried not to let his head accidentally bump into Lola's as she took his next words in. "I'm hurting, Luke. Wait, I think I'm gonna puke." He pulled away and almost fell on the ground as he let the contents out of his body and onto the once green colored grass.

Lucas looks at Lola, "I'm gonna go call Brooke's new taxi service, you gonna be alright with him while I'm gone?"

She just nodded, not looking at him as he walked away and instead, helping Nathan to stand up so they could find a cleaner spot to sit down at. She used all of her muscle and dragged him to the curb.

Nathan groaned as his butt landed on the hard surface. He flinches as her hands make their way to his face, "What're you doing?"

"Wiping the puke from your lips, you idiot." She rolled her eyes, ignoring his words as she used the makeup wipe that was grabbed from her bag. She suddenly zoned out, keeping her gaze steadily at his cute and smaller lips. Looking up to meet his bright blue eyes, she noticed he had already been staring at her. "What? Is there something on my face?"

He shook his head, "No. I just didn't realize how beautiful you looked in that dress."

She scoffed, "Now is not the time to be drunk talking, Nathan."

"I'm being serious. I wanted to tell you earlier, but I was too scared you'd hit me or something." He smiled once her laugh reached his ears. "I'm sorry for ruining the wedding, could you tell Keith for me?"

"You didn't ruin it, it hasn't even started yet. But, yeah, I'll tell him." She pulled away, shoving his nasty wipe into his suit pocket. Lucas walking back towards them caused her to help the boy beside her stand up. "I would go with you and make sure you make it home safe, but I'm gonna stick with Luke and be there for him. If I learn you start drinking again, I'll hit you with my mother's chancla."

He raised his hands up in defense, "Okay, okay. I promise I won't drink anymore. I'll just go home and fall asleep."

"They'll be pulling around the side of the church in a minute. Thank god Brooke was smart enough to have them on hand incase anyone needed it." Lucas sighed, rubbing his hand on the side of his face in frustration.

Nathan noticed his expression, "I'm sorry."

"I know, Nate, I know." Lucas smiled in reassurance, although it didn't reach his eyes. The DUI taxi car pulls up and Luke grabs his brother from Lola's tiny arms, shoving the boy in the car.

"I'm gonna text you later and check in, okay?" Lola bent down to see him through the window, watching as he just nods. She stands back up straight, her and Lucas watching as the car takes off down the road and out of their vision.

Lucas grabs her hand and pulls her away, making her attention fall on him as they walk back towards the church. "I thought you weren't going to speak to him ever again?"

"Yeah, but I felt bad after he looked like a kicked puppy last night, talking about his feelings and how much he was hurting." Lola squeezed the boy's hand. "I'm sorry about him coming here and trying to ruin everything, I should've just stayed with him and kept an eye on him, but I didn'tβ€”"

"Hey, hey," Lucas interrupted her rambling, his hands reaching down to cup her cheeks to get her to fully look up at him. "It's not your fault, alright. You didn't know he was gonna come here drunk. Don't blame yourself for trying to be a good friend."

She nodded, "You're right. Thanks, Luke." She pulled him into a hug, taking in his scent.

The blonde squeezed her once before he pulled away, "Let's get back to the wedding. It'll start soon."

"Oh, shoot. I forgot you're the best man!" Lola laughed as they walked into the church together and down the long isle.

"Yep. Never thought I would be, but it's kinda nice." He noticed Brooke and Peyton, along with her brother sitting down. "There's your brother and the others. I'll see you later, Loo."

She just smiled, making her way towards her brother, taking the spare seat in between him and Brooke.

"Since when did you chase after drunken boys?" Andre whispered, not wanting to catch the attention of the other people surrounding them.

Lola sighed, "He's my new friend I was telling you about. And you know I always take care of friends."

He just hummed, watching as the bridesmaids walked down the isle in their bright blue dresses that ran down to their ankles. Flowers laid in their hands as they plastered on smiles.

The annual Here Comes The Bride starts playing throughout the building, everyone standing up as they turned towards the entrance, waiting for the bride, Jules, to make her presence known.

Lola smiled at the thought, but it falls from her face when the song continues playing and no one comes out. Glancing to her left, she shared a confused look with her brother, who shrugged, before turning her head back to its original spot. Where the hell was she?

After about two minutes of nothing, someone in a tux rushes through the doors. "I'm sorry, but she left."

The crowd gasps in shock, having never experienced something like this in their lives. Keith steals Lucas' car keys and rushes out of the building, Karen following after him as fast as she could in her heels. Lucas quickly follows suit, ignoring the looks he got as he did.

Nathan Scott was right all along. Love really was nothing but a joke. But, maybe it had been the thing that set Jules off, afraid of losing her loved ones over a mistake she had made.

Love is heartbreaking and devastating, an evil son of a bitch that just stayed with you, even in your suffering.
