04. Take Care

FOUR TAKE CARE

◥✥◤

Word of the fight between Fawn and Maddy had spread around the school like wildfire, along with the word that they were sleeping together. Rumors always seemed to seep into the core of the student body as they thrived off of it and for one, Fawn was satisfied. Sylvia would call her an attention whore, but Fawn owned the title with pride. She was best when she had a target on her back.

Speaking of targets, with the spread of rumors about Maddy, her loyal guard dog of a boyfriend, Nate Jacobs, seemed to have it out for Fawn. She couldn't even make it through her first day without a problem from her -- but that was too be expected.

"What the fuck is your problem?" Nate Jacobs slammed his hands down on the table Fawn and Sylvia were sitting at, their lunch trays untouched as they knew they could do better than the shitty school food. They were probably going to ditch their last class and go get McDonald's anyway like they did most of last year.

"You're gonna have to be more specific," Fawn said with a laugh as she took a sip from her water bottle, keeping eye contact with Nate almost as if she were challenging him. Nate's favorite thing was to push people and watch them flinch and Fawn never flinched. "If you're just gonna stand there and steam like an angry bull, then go bother someone else who gives a shit, Jacobs."

Sylvia chimed in with a casual, "Yeah, we were kind of in the middle of a conversation. So, scurry along."

"No one touches Maddy and gets away with it," Nate steamed and Fawn resisted the urge to laugh in his face. So tough and so strong, but he still sounded like a fucking idiot. If she wanted to get punched in the face today, she would have let out a chuckle. However, she knew Nate wasn't against hitting girls. There wasn't much he wouldn't do.

"Oh, I did more than just touch her," the tan girl scoffed, turning to Sylvia as the two let a fit of giggles escape their lips. Fawn was vaguely aware of the eyes of other students in the cafeteria on them and the thought made her smile. After all, this type of situation really was where she thrived. "Listen, I don't think it's any of your business what your girlfriend did while you guys were... what was it? On a break? Now that you're surely back together since you both have attachment issues, I'll be happy to keep my hands off. Anyway, thanks for the chat, but I've gotta use the can."

Fawn stood up with an easy smile as she dusted off her skirt, hopefully ridding it of the decades-old gunk that probably covered these cafeteria seats. Sylvia went to follow her, but as the two began to walk away she felt a tight grip on her upper arm that kept her still. In a knee-jerk reaction, she grabbed Nate's wrist and dug her nails into the skin. The objective was to draw blood, but breaking skin would be good enough.

"Don't fucking touch me," Fawn snarled as she whipped around and pried Nate's hand off of her.

"Don't fucking touch my girlfriend," Nate seethed in response as he wrenched his wrist out of her grip with ease. She saw scratches in her wake and a wave of peace washed over her knowing that Nate wasn't nearly as invincible as he wanted people to believe he was. "If you aren't careful, I think I could... call up some of my buddies at Notre Dame."

As soon as she heard this, Sylvia grabbed Fawn's hand and squeezed, obviously trying to ground her in case of an emergency. However, Fawn stood as tall as she could. She had always been taller than most, but against Nate's 6'5" she, unfortunately, paled in comparison. The platforms she was wearing but her a little closer to his level, but it was barely enough to be able to look him in the eyes without looking up. Fawn let go of Sylvia and took a step closer. Everyone was looking at them now, but Fawn hardly cared.

"Do it, I doubt they'd even pick up the phone for little Nate Jacobs," she chuckled, her voice as stable and cutting as she could muster. "In fact, I'd like to see you try. You won't though, will you? Maybe you should stop breaking up with your girlfriend and then you won't have to worry about other people fucking her. Ever tried that, maybe?"

"Don't talk about her like that," the boy's eyes were dark, his voice wavering with anger. It was laughable, but she knew he could absolutely kick her ass if he wanted to. That being said, toeing the line was her specialty. "You need to start watching your mouth, Dominguez."

"Oh, do I?" Fawn teased, sarcasm dripping from her voice as she spoke, both her hands firmly on her hips. "I think I keep a pretty close eye on it if I do say so myself. Go fuck your girlfriend for me, okay? Take care."

She walked away and this time he let her so she grabbed Sylvia by the hand and pulled her out of the cafeteria with her, both of them stopping for a minute once they got to the hall. Fawn felt like she couldn't breathe, but there was no way she was going to let herself falter until they were in a more private place. She dragged Sylvia to the same bathroom they were in this morning. Letting go of her friend, she let both hands grip the edge of the sink as she stared down her reflection in the mirror.

"Don't let him get to you," Sylvia broke the tense silence as she watched over her friend with a concerned expression. Her hand hovered over Fawn and the girl nodded before the blonde gently began to rub Fawn's back in an attempt to calm her down. "God, he's such an asshole."

"Oh, God can't help him," Fawn chuckled as she let a smile fall loosely onto her lips. "Jesus Christ, what is his problem?"

Sylvia scoffed, "You, apparently. Their relationship is otherworldly to me, he's more like a bodyguard than a boyfriend, it's awful. Blegh, just the thought of it feels suffocating."

"She's obsessed with him and he's obsessed with her, what more could they ask for?" Fawn asked with a dark chuckle as she let her hands let go of the sink and instead hover underneath the faucet so some cool water would fall over them. She rubbed her cheeks, careful not to smear her eye makeup, and let herself cool down. "Ugh, I hate men. I hate men like him."

"He's no man," Sylvia said with a rough laugh, picking at her nails as she watched Fawn carefully regain her composure. It wasn't obvious, but Fawn could see the worry in her eyes. "You're okay, though, right?"

Fawn nodded, "Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. He can't fuck me up as much as he thinks he can."

"You're not gonna let him like get away with treating you like this, are you?"

The girl shook her head, determination shining in her voice as she said, "Oh, I'm gonna fucking kill him."
