Training's Over (Chapter 43)

Morning came too quickly for your liking as a bright beam of light slipped through the curtains and illuminated your face. Opening your eyes you turned away slightly only to face a brighter yellow that tickled your noise.
In a silent moment of shock, you slowly leaned upwards, propping yourself up with an elbow, and looked at the mess your drunkass self had left you with.

You were currently spooning Yang, who in turn was spooning Pyrrha, the three of you underneath a large cover in what was clearly none of your dorm rooms. Only one thought was on your mind at that moment as you tried to salvage your memories of the night.

(Y/N): 'Heh, nice.'

Eventually you pulled away from Yang and got out from underneath the covers, finding yourself in boxers but nothing more. You soon found your clothes, and the girl's too, strewn about the place almost telling a story as they were discarded all the way from door to bed.

After getting dressed you heard a stomach rumble, loudly, from the bed. Carefully going over you found Yang had at some point woken up, but was clearly more content with staying where she was, and were treated to the sight of her cuddling into the redhead while smiling at you.

Yang: "Heh, nice."

(Y/N): "I didn't say that out loud did I?"

Yang: "What, no? When did you-" Both of you fell quiet when Pyrrha shifted in her spot, not waking up however. "Why are you getting dressed?" She whispered, a tone of sadness trying to stay hidden.

(Y/N): "Force of habit I suppose..." You mumbled back. "Was that your stomach or sleeping beauty's?"

Yang: "Mine, but I imagine she'll be hungry as well. You not?"

(Y/N): "Somewhat... I'll go see what I can get us." You said standing up only for your wrist to be caught by Yang. "You okay?"

Yang: "Just... please come back." She pleaded almost like a child.

(Y/N): "Hey, listen... I asked if you wouldn't let go and you said yes. That means you're stuck with me, and not even death will stop me from reaching you." Yang sighed while shaking her head before giving you a small smile.

Yang: "You really do enjoy milking that one don't you."

(Y/N): "What, don't like it? I seem to remember you saying it was 'dead hilarious'. Anyway, I'll go get us all something now, won't be long." With a quick kiss on the forehead you left Yang to cuddle back into Pyrrha.

{Le Timeskip brought to you by 'The Immortal' written by Zairrif. It's really fucking good.}

(Y/N): "So, you haven't got chocolate, strawberry, chocochip, or even lemon. What the hell do you have?" You asked the cashier, infuriated by the lack of options.

Shopkeep: "Vanilla or Neapolitan. I said our new batch comes in later today."

(Y/N): "Oh for fu- right. Three vanillas then."

Shopkeep: "Excellent choice, in fact, that's the last of the vanilla... It's actually buy three get a fourth free so..."

(Y/N): "That's fine I only want the three-"

Shopkeep: "I'm gonna level with you." He said, leaning over the counter slightly. "I get a bonus if I shift all this Ice Cream before the new stuff comes in, so, you're taking this ice cream. I don't care what you do with it, give it to someone else for all I care."

(Y/N): "Alright fine. Give it here."

Shopkeep: "Absolute lifesaver mate!" He smiled as he handed you the four tubs of icecream. "Oh, would you believe it, that's all my ice cream! Have a good rest of your morning!" He cheered before retreating into the back of the store.

(Y/N): "You too, twat."

You scoffed before turning around and looking towards the booths. You could've sworn you'd seen someone there earlier, maybe they'd want your unneeded treat. Walking over to the tables you found you were right, there was one lone person.

(Y/N): "Hey mate, I got an extra Icecream I don-"

You and Neo both froze in shock and confusion as to the others presence. You were the first to react, marginally, as you slid the tubs onto the table only to have to take a step back as a blade swung near your throat.

Looking back up you saw her get out of the booth, umbrella weapon in hand, with a slight smirk. Eyes widening, you realised you didn't have your weapon on you and she seemed to know that too. She then engaged her aura as a pink crackle of energy surrounded her, before she took a few steps forward while you stepped back.

(Y/N): "Wait!" She gave you a dumbfound look before she waved her hand for you to speak. "Lock the door and close the blinds, I assume you don't want the police after us both."

Neo thought for a second, mentally weighing the options, before gesturing you to go ahead. You took a few steps away, your eyes not drifting from her weapon, until you reached the door engaging the lock as well as using the panel to set the windows to black.

Using this moment, you scanned the room, it was a decent size for an Ice Cream parlor, although anything looked that way when compared to Neo. The main counter was inline with the wall as to separate the front and the back while the booths were against, the now blackened, windowed wall and the furthest wall from you. Formulating a plan, you realised you'd have to disarm her quickly as you wouldn't have much room to avoid her in.

(Y/N): "There." You reached into your coat and whipped out your spork, brandishing it like a sword. "Now we can begin." She once again gave you a confused look but got into a fighting stance.

After a few seconds of a standoff, you went in for the first attack, rushing straight at her with not far to travel. The counter was far more elegant as she extended her umbrella, causing you to run into it as she forced you to go straight into the table she had just been sitting at with simple redirection. Flipping around to face her, you quickly leaned back onto the table as Neo swiped her weapon where you were just a second ago, just before you kicked her in the chest causing her to stumble back.

With one quick flip from her, you and Neo found yourselves now stood on opposite sides of the Ice Cream parlor, backs to the walls yet again. You, however, had jumped up onto the table trying to calculate what she would do next while Neo did much the same from the floor while taking slow and cautious steps forward.

You submitted to the mental battle first and threw your spork straight at the woman, while jumping for the next table. Neo was surprised by this but simply dodged to the left as she watched the 'weapon' sail past her, something she would quickly regret as she felt a boot collide with her head sending her sprawling into the main counter, her umbrella flying over it, before she fell to the floor. You had jumped across the tables and kicked her while she was distracted by your spork, landing on your hands and feet before you stood.

Before you could press your advantage, Neo recovered and span onto her hands and feet, knocking you over in the process, before leaping at you. Using your legs you made her fly past you rather than land on top of you, causing her to collide with a booth just behind you.

Pulling yourself upwards you ignored the painful throbbing of your head from hitting the floor, determined to win the rematch. Neo, recovering likewise, was pulling herself from the mess of furniture you had put her in, clearly angry.

(Y/N): "Call it quits?" You asked earnestly. You only got a dead stare in response. "Worth a shot." You sighed as you caught your breath.

The two of you ran at each other, yourself throwing the first punch which she masterfully avoided. Following up with an uppercut and then a leg sweep she avoided both with expertly time dodges, you were catching onto her plan. When she began to return your attacks with a few of her own you latched onto her arm with one hand, catching her off guard, before using the other to help you swing her into the wall.

As she was thrown at the wall she reached across herself and let slip a knife, chucked just in time for her to hit the wall and fall to the floor face down. That knife flew unhindered into your thigh, burying itself deeply into your leg.

(Y/N): "Gah, fuck." You exclaimed as you had to resist screwing your eyes shut, leaning onto the nearest table.

Neo pulled herself up and wiped her mouth before her eyes landed on your wound, a momentary pause occurring before she shook herself out of it. She then cracked her knuckles, gaining your attention, before she clicked her neck while getting into another new stance.

(Y/N): "God, you take the whole murdering thing seriously." You stated as you stood up straight, trying to annoy her. "What no comeback? Just tell me when to stop." That seemed to work.

She easily closed the gap before throwing a punch to your gut, one you were to slow too stop as she forced a grunt of pain from you. A sudden, searing, sensation in your thigh then caused you to crouch to her level as she ripped the knife from your body, quickly followed up by a knee to the stomach. Finally, she plunged the newly reacquired knife into your back, making your head shoot upwards in a roar of pain.

This last bit of abuse sent you over the edge as you wrapped your arms around her before running at the wall opposite you, pushing her full force into it. She let out a silent scream before she started repeatedly stabbing you in a panic, which you ignored in your adrenaline fuelled form.

Stepping back from the wall she was forced to let go off the knife and drop back to her feet, just in time for her face to meet your fist and the back of her head to meet the wall. Her face became contorted with pain as she screamed silently, her hands shooting up to cover it, even if there was no real damage.

She then noticed your arm pulling back, ready to throw another punch, and in that moment she looked up to your eyes. With a sudden decision, Neo dropped her aura, her eyes firmly locked on your own, as you threw one more punch.

A crunching sound rang out as bone shattered and splintered, your hand in extreme agony as it collided with the wall. Flashing Neo a grin you watched as she sunk to the floor as you took a stumbling step back.

(Y/N): "So... that makes us one for one..." You collapsed sideways onto the floor, you and Neo locking eyes as she stared in utter confusion. "I was just gonna ask if you wanted the Ice Cream I didn't..."

Succumbing to your wounds you blacked out.

Eventually, Neo brought herself to her feet taking a deep breath as she went behind the counter. Retrieving her umbrella she collapsed the blade and slowly walked to the door, only for her to look back towards (Y/N). Stopping she bit her lip as her eyes changed colour, showing a conflict of interest, as she weighed her options.

Silently sighing, she walked back to him while letting the umbrella slide down to the floor before kneeling down next to him. Carefully, she pulled free the knife from his back, a small river of blood spilling onto the floor creating a rich red puddle. Laying the knife down she pushed (Y/N), who by this point was stone cold, onto his back with some effort before using his shirt to wipe some of the blood off her hands.

Standing back up her eyes caught the sight of four tubs of ice cream on the table she had been sat at, with a little smirk she went over, a slight skip in her step, before she grabbed the Neapolitan tub. She then turned on her heels and strode back to the door, stepping over (Y/N) and bending down to get her umbrella, only stopping when she stood on a spork before kicking it back to (Y/N)'s feet. With one last look back she jokingly blew a kiss and left, using her semblance to disguise herself.

{Le Timeskip brought to you by Chibi Neo trying to eat ice cream with a spork.}

Pyrrha and Yang, both now dressed in some clothing, were just idly chatting when the door swung open to their room, making the former jump slightly.

(Y/N): "I'm back and I brought ice cream!" You said, striding into the room holding three tubs of vanilla ice cream.
Yang smiled but raised an eyebrow as she found herself staring at your bare chest. Pyrrha was also confused but quite happily took a tub and spoon from you.

Yang: "Weren't you wearing a shirt?" She asked while taking a second tub and spoon from you.

(Y/N): "Weren't you naked? I lost clothes you gained some, that's equivalent exchange." With the two giving him very strange looks he relented. "Small fight, little blood got on my shirt, didn't want to worry you."

Pyrrha: "That typically makes me worry more."

(Y/N): "Oh well, did you two get a message from Ruby as well?" You asked while stuffing your face with ice cream.

Yang: "A couple, mainly asking where we were and if we are ready for the training fight?"

Pyrrha: "What fight?" She asked confused.

(Y/N): "The one we all drunkenly agreed to." You answered after briefly looking through your messages.

Yang: "Well when is it?" She asked, not bothering to check for herself.

(Y/N): "Ten thirty and in one of the outdoor training areas."

Pyrrha: "It's Twenty to ten now!" She said with an alarmed look.

With a shared look of 'oh shit' the three began to scarf their ice cream before gathering all of their belongings. They were out and on an airship within 15 minutes, another 15 minutes later they had arrived at Beacon and raced to their dorms.
Stopping outside their dorm rooms they all looked at eachother and high-fived.

Yang: "We're so awesome!" Her stomach grumbled horribly, followed by the other two having the same feelings.

Pyrrha: "We're so gonna need something proper to eat..." She stated, holding her stomach. "Ice cream was nice but it doesn't go that far..."

(Y/N): "Lessons learned..." You groaned before nodding at Yang. "See you in fifteen."

Twenty-odd minutes later, much to Ruby's dismay, the 9 friends were stood, fully armed, ready to get the fight on. However one thing still gnawed at your mind, something small that everyone had almost overlooked.

(Y/N): "So, who exactly am I fighting?" A pause fell across you all and eyes slowly turned to Ruby, who had her mouth slightly agape in panic.

Ruby: "I... didn't actually think of that." She admitted reluctantly.

Weiss: "Well I do remember someone losing to us in a fight, so maybe you should join JNPR."

(Y/N): "That was a fluke! I could beat the four of you anytime, anywhere."

Blake: "Then why not right here and now?" She commented and you began to realise how easily you had been manipulated.

Yang: "Yea, why not a 4v4v1? That way everyone has a chance Mr. Confident."

(Y/N): "You know what? Fine. On the condition that I can pick one person not allowed to directly attack me."

Ruby: "Who do you pick?"

(Y/N): "Jaune." Everyone looked surprised, even the man himself, but you looked confident in your decision.

Ruby: "Alright, it's settled. No more wasting time. Take your positions!"

JNPR, RWBY and yourself retreated backwards in three different directions. As the two teams quickly talked tactics as you took in the surroundings.
Unfortunately for you it was a mostly open area with only some rocks to break up the areas, the actual treeline being beyond the arena lines. There wouldn't be much room for outmaneuvering or hiding, and you'd only be able to run so far in the event you were attacked.

Realising your surroundings wouldn't help you looked to your opponents. RWBY would think they know how you fight, having fought you in Glynda's room, which could cause them to slightly overvalue or undervalue you as a threat, most likely the latter. JNPR on the other hand, especially Jaune and Pyrrha, knew how you fought and trained and would be able to make fair assumptions on your positions in the battle. But neither knew the other very well, you could be able to use that to your advantage.

Getting Yang and Nora into a fight would be easy and make the two indisposed for a time. Ruby would need to be prevented from assisting her team, which would be tricky given her semblance, having Pyrrha focus on her would be helpful but difficult.

Jaune would be quickly overwhelmed, despite how far you had trained him, and you wouldn't want that to happen. Perhaps using him as protection while also protecting him would be effective?
Before you could put any more thought into your plan you heard Ruby shouting a countdown, signalling time up.

Ruby: "Three! Two! One! GO!"

As soon as the words left her mouth all of you took off running. Ruby burst into a stream of petals going straight at Jaune, much to your annoyance, while he stood back watching his team rush to engage. Weiss used her Glyphs to send Blake flying towards Ren, who just managed to dodge the rush attack with a roll to the side.

You then noticed that the two strongmen of the opposite teams were coming straight for you, both using their weapons to boost towards you in a similar manner. Yang was flying through the air, her shot gauntlets firing rapidly as she punched the air behind her, while Nora was sailing through the sky, ready to bring the hammer down.

Running directly at Yang you waited a couple of seconds until she wouldn't be able to react, you dropped down continuing to slide across the ground. Shooting the blonde a wink as you sailed under her, she soon realised her mistake as Nora brought her hammer straight down onto Yang's back, the two missing you entirely as you sprang back to your feet and began running for Jaune.

Jaune, meanwhile, was forced to roll to the side to avoid Ruby's scythe swinging down on him again. How she was swinging that thing with ease was beyond him as his muscles were burning just keeping up with her. The blonde did see an opening when the younger's scythe got lodged into the ground. Going in for a swipe with his blade, the redhead was forced to abandon her weapon as she backflipped away from the attack. Jaune looked at his position and started guarding the scythe like a relic, refusing to let Ruby get close.

Weiss, seeing her leader in trouble, set up a speed glyph aiming herself straight towards Jaune only for her rapier to glow black at the last second and shoot her straight towards Pyrrha. The redhead parried this powered up attack with her shield causing Weiss to land on her feet and turn to engage her new opponent. Setting up a number of glyphs surrounding Pyrrha, Weiss began to dart between them speeding up while striking towards the middle, only for her attacks to be redirected ever so slightly into missing.

This however left Pyrrha open for attack when you went running by, slashing at the redheads legs making her fall forward to her knees. You continued running towards Ruby and Jaune, meanwhile Weiss used this opportunity to strike Pyrrha in the chest, full power, sending her sprawling backwards, her weapons flying either direction to the side.

The fight between Ren and Blake was evenly matched so far, neither able to press any form of advantage. Ren was relentless with his attacks but Blake was easily able to avoid them with careful use of her semblance. This was draining her quite quickly however, and in a rushed decision she used ice dust to modify her shadow clone, Ren shattering it while she rolled to the side and brought Gambol Shroud up to fire. Ren was faster however and spin kicked the weapon out of her hands before firing into her point blank until she created another shadow clone and disappeared.

A flurry of explosions soon shook the battlefield as Nora and Yang engaged in a brutal fight. While currently evenly matched Yang was only getting stronger the more the hyperactive ginger hit her. Bringing her hammer down Nora tried to crush the blonde, only for her to bring her gauntlets up in a guard, before she smirked and pulled the trigger. She shot up into the air as Yang was forced to the floor by the pink explosion blown right into her weapons, breaking them right from her wrists. Although what goes up must come down and while Nora was falling back to the ground, Yang flashed her a smirk while pulling back her fist, now powered up heavily, ready to punch her the second she was close enough.

While the roar of an explosive battle behind you raged on, you focused your sights on Ruby who was getting ready to fly over Jaune with her semblance. Yelling out to the blonde, just as Ruby shot into the air in a blossoming bloom of petals, he quickly got the idea and you jumped onto his shield before he pushed up as you jumped again. You just managed to get in front of Ruby who reappeared with a look of horror as you fired several fire dust shots into her face, only to crash into you and send you both towards the ground. Flipping you around, you landed on Ruby, who's aura took the fall and your weight before shattering. She groaned before giving you a pouty annoyed look to which you smiled and winked before standing.

Weiss watched Ruby get taken down before charging up a glyph behind herself then rushing forward with added speed. She planned to take you out with one strike, unfortunately for her Jaune jumped in the way with his shield. Instead of continuing the rapier thrust she quickly jumped, not slowing down at all, and mirrored yourself. Jumping off Jaune's shield she shot herself back down with a glyph, stabbing her rapier right into the blondes chest who collapsed to the ground with a grunt. Before she could finish the job however you swung at her with your sword, forcing her to flip backwards and away.

Meanwhile, Blake and Ren were drawing their battle to a close. The former was almost out of aura from an overuse of her semblance and being constantly on the defensive. However, she had one final gambit. Using some fire dust Weiss had given her, she made one last shadow clone that exploded in Ren's face making him stumble back at which point Blake got ready to bring her sword down on him, only for it to not budge once she had raised it. Ren took the opportunity to shoot the defenceless faunus until her aura broke and she dropped to the floor with a cry of pain and frustration, at which point Pyrrha cut out her semblance.

Hearing the cry from her partner Yang launched her final attack into Nora who went flying out of the arena bounds, causing her to slam into a tree and flash a shattered pink as she slumped. A now powered up and angry Yang turned to face her opponents, seeing both her sister and partner out of the fight. Her hair glowing gold in a fiery fury she slowly began her march towards the remaining fighters. Seeing this, Weiss broke off from her fight with Jaune and (Y/N) to regroup, using her glyphs to easily fly across the battlefield.

Jaune: "JNPR regroup!" The blonde yelled, seeing the oncoming threat. "(Y/N) what should we do?" He asked looking to you as the others ran over to you both.

(Y/N): "I dunno, I'm not on your team." You said as Jaune's eyes widen seeing you had reloaded your gun, taking aim you nailed Ren in the head several times until he fell over, his aura shattered, before you ran away from the blonde.

Despite your disloyalty to JNPR, Weiss was quick to see your retreat and chase after you, leaving her teammate to deal with the others. You managed to pull yourself to a stop as she sailed by you, only to turn around and run at you again, using a glyph to keep you in place. She struck at your chest which you parried to your right, unable to follow up due to being stuck. She then struck upwards at you only for you to block her attack, easily overpowering her and she was forced to step back, just for you to break free from the glyph. You brought your blade down on Weiss to which she tried to block, only for you to hook your leg behind hers and pull, making her lose her footing. She did however manage to kick you over her making you roll forward as she jumped back to her feet. You spun around on your hand and feet, sword outstretched to the side as you stared off at each other.

Yang meanwhile was delivering a beatdown to Jaune while rivalling Pyrrha in combat. Jaune was sent stumbling back again as Yang punched his shield, making it ring on his wrist, just for Pyrrha to jump in the way of him and swing her sword at Yang forcing her to back away.

Yang: "Weiss, I could use a hand!" She said, watching Pyrrha slowly begin to encircle her while Jaune ran at her again.

Weiss grit her teeth only barely hearing her friend as she was currently sword locked with you, a fight that you were winning. With a moment's hesitation and a sideways glance, Weiss rolled out of the way of you, causing you to go stumbling forward, and sheathed her sword into the ground.

Two glyphs appeared on the ground, one under Yang, which was a bright yellow, and the other under Pyrrha, a matte black. Yang found she was sped up and was easily able to knock Jaune far away in one easy punch to the face, his body getting thrown away from her. Pyrrha however found all her movements slowed down, including the sword she was about to bring down on Yang, and with slowed reflexes she saw the blonde turn around and a blur hit her multiple times.

As soon as Yang threw her last punch time returned to normal for the two and Pyrrha was launched away from the blonde, her aura and armour barely protecting her when she hit the ground unconscious. With a smile she turned around to face Weiss with two big thumbs up only to see her cut down from behind by you, her aura crackling as she fell to the ground with a thud.

(Y/N): "Hmm... fuck." You sighed. "I was hoping you and Pyrrha would take each other out."

Yang: "If you're scared, we can call it quits?" She smirked while slowly approaching.

(Y/N): "Well, I'm about to beat you so there's no point."

Yang: "And how are you going to do that?"

(Y/N): "I'm going to make sure you're distracted."

Yang looked confused for a moment before she stumbled forward slightly, her aura breaking out in a shining yellow. Turning around she saw Jaune breathing heavily, holding his sword with two hands.

Jaune: "I... I did it?" He asked, surprised, while looking at the only other two standing.

(Y/N): "You stole my kill Jaune!" You joked while walking over to the two. "Good work, for a second I fought I'd have to fight her."

Yang: "So you were scared?" She smirked.

(Y/N): "Scared you'd hate me after I whooped your ass."

Yang: "Is that a promise?"

Jaune: "Guy's shouldn't we help the others?" He gestured around the arena.

(Y/N): "Oh, yea..."

{Le Timeskip brought to you by Luigi! It's a him!}

After gathering and ensuring all your friends were okay, You and Ruby offered to get food for the group. Well, more Ruby offered and you were dragged along to help, almost literally. Currently, you were on your way to your dorms to get anything you could for a 'feast'.

Ruby: "That was so much fun! But I barely did anything." She pouted, her excitement getting in the way slightly.

(Y/N): "That is your own fault. You should've stuck with your team, co-ordinated, attacked as one."

Ruby: "Oh, like you did?" She responded with a cheeky smirk.

(Y/N): "I would like to point out that I jumped off Jaune's shield, someone on the opposite team to me, and then took you out." You said wrapping an arm around her shoulder. "And I used Weiss to get some chip damage in on Pyrrha beforehand." You ruffled up Ruby's hair before pulling away, causing her to pull a face.

Ruby: "Ok, ok. So, what would you recommend we do instead?"

(Y/N): "I'm so glad you asked!" You gave her a smile. "Yang's your beatstick/heavy-hitter. Weiss is your supporter/mage. You are DPS/fast attacker. Blake is a distraction/combo breaker."

Ruby: "You can't apply video-game logic to my team!" She interrupted, slightly offended at the notion, but you just took it in stride.

(Y/N): "In an ideal game, you trick the enemy into putting plenty of low damaging attacks into Yang, powering her up, while Blake and yourself prevent any serious attacks or the enemies own team attacks. Weiss acts as the support for you all, keeping you all buffed with her glyphs or going in for attacks when needed. Eventually, Yang powers up enough to kick anyone's shit in and Weiss uses her glyph to speed her up to deliver said ass kickings. Easy peasy."

Ruby: "But that's only one strategy? And what if we can't work together like that?"

(Y/N): "Good catch. That's for you to figure out."

Ruby: "What, why?" She whined.

(Y/N): "They're your team Ruby, you've fought alongside them more and should know their strengths and weaknesses. Take that and figure out the best combos."

Ruby: "This isn't a game! It's not as if Blake is B+B followed by a Y..." She paused, a moment of clarity gracing her making her face go sour. "I hate you..."

(Y/N): "I love you too, Rubes."

Ruby: "So is that how your mentor taught you to fight? With videogames?" She inquired, raising an eyebrow to invoke doubt.

(Y/N): "Eh, no. Although, I didn't have an awesome team roster to back me up."

Ruby: "Oh yeah, I just unlocked Pyjama variant Weiss from a legendary crate!" She fake bragged while elbowing you. However, you just leaned closer to the girl and whispered into her ear.

(Y/N): "That's nice, I unlocked lingerie Yang from an exotic." You teased before rushing ahead to avoid consequences.

Ruby: "Y-you are joking right?! (Y/N)?!" She yelled before chasing after you, a small blush on her face. "(Y/N)!"
