XII. Love Still Won't Die

Eliza made it to Gotham and went to the area where Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman had finished fighting Doomsday. "Guys you did it. You saved the world." Batwoman said smiling but Batman and Wonder Woman looked at her with a sad smile. "What's wrong?" She asked. "I'm sorry Batwoman, but he is dead." Wonder Woman told Batwoman as she put a hand on her shoulder. Batwoman looked at her confused, Wonder Woman led her to a big rock and as they turned there he was.

Superman, Clark Kent, her boyfriend laying on the rocks. Lifeless. Batwoman let her knees connect with the cement as she collapsed. She was kneeled down, tears immediately escaping her eyes as she held Clark. Batwoman tilted her head up into the air and let out a loud scream, all of her agony, pain and sadness released into the atmosphere. Memories of her and Clark came into her mind as she screamed. A huge empty hole was now in her heart.

Once Batwoman finally stop screaming she ripped off her cowl and threw it on the ground. She cried onto Clark's chest, her tears were being absorbed by the fabric of his suit. "No you can't do this. You can't just leave me like that. The world needs you. We all do." Eliza said to Clark's lifeless body while she stroked his cheek with her hand. "Please wake up my love. Wake up." Eliza said running her hand through Clark's beautiful curly back hair.

"E-Eliza." Clark breathed out. "Clark oh my gosh, it's okay baby I'm here." Eliza said. "This is my world. You are my world. I- I love you." Clark said putting his hand on Eliza's cheek. "You are my world and I love you too. Don't leave." Eliza said as tears streamed down her face. Clark smiled one last time at Eliza. "It's okay beautiful. It's okay." Clark said as his eyes closed, his hand dropped onto the cement and his breathing stopped.

Eliza let more and more tears escape her eyes. The love of her life was dead. Eliza kept her head on Clark's chest and cried as she held him. Minutes must have passed because Eliza felt someone sit next to her. It was her dad and he also had taken off his cowl. "Dad he's gone. He's gone forever." Eliza said crying and Bruce held onto her. "I know pumpkin I know. I'm so sorry." Bruce said as he hugged his daughter.

"It's my fault it's all my fault." Eliza said. "No it's not Eliza it's not your fault." Dad said. "It should have been me." Eliza said and she continued to cry. "No! No! Don't you dare say that! We are going to get through this together, me and you." Bruce said kissing his daughter. He held onto her as she cried, calming her down by running his hand through her hair and rubbing her back just like he did when she was little. The world fell silent around them.

Days passed after the tragic event in Gotham and Bruce and Eliza were in Smallville, Kansas attending Clark's funeral. Bruce opened the door of the car for his daughter. Eliza stepped out wearing a black dress and her hair was in a ponytail. You could still notice the sadness in her face, she had not smiled in days after Clark's passing. Eliza and Bruce approached a beautiful two story house. Bruce knocked on the door and and older woman answered the door.

She was wearing black along with Eliza and Bruce. "You must be Eliza." She said smiling softly and opening her arms. "It's nice to finally meet you Mrs. Kent, I wish we could have met well... not in this typical situation." Eliza said hugging the woman. "The timing is unfortunate but please, call me Martha." Martha said smiling lightly.

"Your son was an incredible man. You raised him well." Eliza replied. "Thank you. He also told me so much about you, he would never stop talking about you. He fell head over heels for you. You were his world." Martha said and a small smile formed on Eliza's face. "He was my world too." Eliza replied as she sniffed. Martha then led Eliza to Clark's room. Posters were on the walls and a model of the solar system hanged above Clark's old bed.

Eliza laid on his bed for what seemed for hours until she heard the door open and Bruce walked in. "Hey." Bruce said. "Hey." Eliza replied back softly. "It's time. Are you ready?" Bruce asked. "A little." Eliza said. She looked at Clark's bedroom one last time before linking her arm with her father's, they both walked downstairs and outside. Everyone walked and the sound of bagpipes filled the air until they arrived at the place where Clark was going to be laid to rest.

Eliza watched as they lowered Clark's casket. Everyone began to leave and once they did her and her father were the only ones there. Eliza picked up a rose, remembering that those were the flowers that were on the table at the restaurant where Eliza and Clark had their first date. "Goodbye my love. I will never forget you, I love you." Eliza said as she let go of the rose and it fell perfectly on top of Clark's casket. A tear slipped out of Eliza's eye.

She went back and hugged her father, the both of them looking at the hole in the ground. Bruce knew he had failed Clark in life, he wasn't prepared to also fail him in death too. Eliza had lost her first love, the man that swept her off of her feet. Clark was different he didn't like Eliza because of her money he liked her because of who she was. Eliza knew that even if she wanted she would never find another guy like him. She had lost him and he wasn't coming back.
