Chapter 13 The happiest day of our afterlives

Being escorted to the back by Elder Gutknecht, (Y/n) had a short amount of time to realize that what his mother said was correct.

Emily was the one.

Alive or deceased, it did not matter to young (Y/n), for he knew that after everything her and he have gone through together; she was put back up into the land of the living for a reason.

To be his bride.

Elder Gutknecht: "Well this is the room, do get acquainted for the time being. The ceremony starts soon, it appears everyone has gathered finally."

(Y/n): "You're right on that, my family and hers are both here."

Elder Gutknecht: "Then I shall not keep you waiting to see your lovely bride."

Before Elder Gutknecht could depart to start the proceedings, a bit of reluctance still remained inside (Y/n). Acting quickly but calmly, he stopped the Elder for a brief moment to ask a simple yet deep question.

(Y/n): "Elder... you've done so much already and I cannot express how grateful I am for you helping make this all possible but... her and I are both young. We're practically still children. She never has been married, and neither have I... the nerves are overwhelming, and don't get me wrong, I know this is the perfect choice but it's just I'm not prepared for how married life is.... especially when you're dead and..."

Elder Gutknecht: "You need not to worry about a single thing (Y/n)."

He stopped (Y/n)'s cautious rant to affirm him that doubts and troubled thoughts about the future are not needed.

Elder Gutknecht: "I've been here for a long time, longer than mostly everyone here. My age is not to be fooled. I've seen folks come and go. Finally reaching peace and others being granted amnesty for their past mistakes head up to the Heavens. I too have longed to head up there, yet I do not know why for so long I haven't been brought up. Like you currently, my doubts overflooded my mind, even losing hope that I would ever reach peace."

Setting his fragile and skeletal hand upon (Y/n)'s shoulder, this made (Y/n) feel more comfortable and at ease, hearing such a veteran of the undead confide in him that he too has moments of concern and worry.

Elder Gutknecht: "But my time here, all my years here, I have found my own peace. Helping young folk like you and dear Emily bring me happiness like never before. I learned long ago to not let my worries overtake me any longer. Which is why I stopped assuming and searching for what could possibly be the way to achieve peace at last. We all have our own paradises, some find it to be Heaven, others can have it being reunited with those they held dear... mine is lending a hand in anyway I can in helping those paradises come true."

(Y/n): "Elder Gutknecht..."

Elder Gutknecht: "Say no more, it is impolite to keep a lady waiting, especially on that of her wedding day."

With that all said, (Y/n) kneeled down and embraced Elder Gutknecht for his wise and kind advice that was much needed. Accepting the sudden but understandable hug, Elder Gutknecht patted (Y/n) on his back and went on his way to prepare the happiest days of both (Y/n) and Emily's lives.

Turning back to face the door that lead into the room Emily occupied, (Y/n) stared down at the door knob. A feeling of nerves overcame him once more, but not any longer about the marriage, but rather of suddenly entering the room to see Emily in her now equipped wedding dress.

Despite acquiring the wedding dress himself for Emily, he was a bit hesitant about opening the door.

As young (Y/n) hasn't seen Emily in her wedding attire and she too hasn't seen (Y/n) in his. It would come as a surprise and a joy to see each other in what will be their defining moment.

With his hand hovering over the door, it begun to shake a bit, unsure if he should knock or call out that he was preparing to enter.

Though, young undead Emily had other plans.

Emily: "Dear? Are you going to come in?"

Her voice gently rang through the door, which made (Y/n)'s eyes open wide in both relief and embarrassment.

(Y/n): "A-at once."

Finally opening the door fully, both (Y/n) and Emily were met with what would truly make anyone's still beating heart melt. Even though their hearts no longer beat, the feeling still remains.

There, Emily stood with her newly donned wedding dress. A beautiful subtly sparkling white dress that complimented her pale blue skin. Her forearms were hidden with slender fabric gloves that hid most of her skeletal features that covered her arms. Along with that, she wore a transparent veil that had no tears or holes as her previous one did. Her hair was combed and straightened as best to it's ability, no longer ragged or messy like before. To top it all off, her beautiful blue glowing wedding ring rested wonderfully on her finger.

Her eyes glittered as (Y/n) adored and in awe, observed the wedding dress Emily perfectly wore.

Though Emily's eyes glittered because of her reaction to seeing (Y/n) in his wedding suit.

As her eyes softly darted up and down to appreciate and ogle every bit of (Y/n)'s attire, she felt weak in her knees.

There, (Y/n) stood with his newly donned wedding suit. A beautiful dark suit, which was matched perfectly with a navy blue vest underneath the suit's jacket. Along with a light blue bowtie, and a blue rose that was pinned on the suit's collar, it was a beautiful suit that fitted and looked flawless on (Y/n).

Because of how star struck both (Y/n) and Emily were on seeing each other in their new attire they are to be married in, a silent moment was shared. Until finally Emily spoke up.

Emily: "You look... so perfect."

(Y/n): "I was about to say that exact same thing to you..."

Emily: "And that rose on your suit! It fits you so well! My handsome groom."

(Y/n): "I picked it to match your ring."

Emily: "Oh (Y/n), you thought of everything. You picked such a perfect dress for me."

(Y/n): "It is stunning on you Emily."

Twirling around in a circle, Emily felt at home in this new dress she wore.

Emily: "To think I'm to be wed in this dress, let alone be wed at all. It's all so..."

(Y/n): "Wonderful?"

Emily: "Of course, I feel wonderful... but I heard you and Elder Gutknecht's conversation outside my door."

(Y/n): "You did?"

Emily: "Oh don't be ashamed, for in all honesty (Y/n)... I was feeling exactly like you. Especially with what I've gone through in the past, I was scared and worried about what the future holds for both of us. Then hearing you and him talk, it... it made me realize that this is my future.... you are my future (Y/n)...."

(Y/n): "Emily... I.... I love you."

Stepping forward, young (Y/n) took ahold of Emily's hands, now soft because of the white gloves she wore. He entwined his fingers with hers, leaning his forehead down and against Emily's. It was a welcomed notion and one Emily treasured.

Emily: "I love you too (Y/n)."

Together, in this beautiful moment, Emily and (Y/n) shared no words, just an intimate action to showcase how they felt in this very moment.

Letting go after a few moments, (Y/n) smiled down at Emily and spoke.

(Y/n): "This day, I have been looking forward to, and the best thing about it is, together, along with our families, we will all be together in Heaven once we both say 'I do'."

Emily: "I hope so... from when I heard Elder Gutknecht talk about him not finding peace for as long as he has been here... it worries me if we don't go up to..."

(Y/n): "Emily, no more doubts. For our families, Elder Gutknecht's, and our own sakes... no more doubts or worries. We will find peace together, no matter the place, once we are truly wedded. I can promise you."

His words spoke volumes to young Emily. It was a shared fear they both had, but with how many have told him that this is truly their moment to find peace, he dared not doubt the future of himself and his future soon to be wife. Emily too, now hearing it from (Y/n) himself, no longer feared the possibility of not going to Heaven once she is wed. For Elder Gutknecht said it best himself.

Everyone has their own paradise.

Emily: "You're right, now come,  I'm sure we've kept a lot of people waiting to see this wedding happen."

(Y/n): "I'm sure of that."

Emily: "Then let us get underway right away! For soon! I shall be Mrs. Emily (L/n)!"

Leaning forward, Emily tippy toed to plant a small kiss upon (Y/n)'s cheek. Not wanting to kiss his lips yet until she hears the "you may now kiss the bride". Despite already sharing a passionate kiss with (Y/n) before when he was alive.

Taking his hand, Emily smiled a smile full of bliss and content. She was ready to finally marry.

Returning the smile, (Y/n) escorted her and himself out of the room, out to where everyone was waiting to finally bare witness the marriage of two souls, full of love and hope come together to share their afterlives together, and to finally be at peace.

Elder Gutknecht awaited down the hall, seeing both (Y/n) and Emily come together holding hands. A subtle smile formed on his skull, never tiring of seeing two young adults join together in matrimony.

Before continuing further, Elder Gutknecht explained how this all went down, since that this was both Emily and (Y/n)'s first wedding. They wanted everything perfect and Elder Gutknecht helped them understand the process.

(Y/n) was sent first, walking down the walkway to where the church podium resided. During his slow walk, he took it all in. The church was outstandingly decorated to celebrate this joyous day. (Y/n) turned his head softly to take a look at all of those who came as he walked. Seeing Emily's parents along with his parents in a pew on the right side, he witnesses his mother holding her hands close together, with his father's arm wrapped around her. Both, with the most proud smiles they've ever shown in their lives. (Y/n) smiled back and closed his eyes for a brief moment to have his entire journey flash before his eyes that lead up to this moment.

(Play for a better feeling)

A young man, heartbroken and lost in his way.

Had his life changed that same day.

A corpse named Emily, tended his accident with care.

He made the right choice, by staying there.

Quickly the two became close which he never expected at all.

Together they watched as the winter leaves would fall.

Days went on and a disaster arose to soon stop his heart.

Though Emily remained, helping him by being a huge part.

In this, his soon cut short life.

He made young Emily his wife.

Not even death separated the two from each other.

He got to finally reunite with his father and mother.

Along with all who he held dear.

The wedding he wanted, was near.

Standing at the front, his smile never vanished. His eyes glowed as he soon got to watch Emily walk down the walkway. Her dress flowing behind her, leaving flowers with every step. Her veil covered her face, but it was clear enough for (Y/n) to enjoy her beauty every step she took. Her smile was radiant and unmatchable in beauty. This was to be his bride, and he was to be her groom.

Finally reaching the podium, Emily stood in front of (Y/n). Something that has been done many times before, but with these current circumstances, it felt much more special.

Lifting the veil, he wanted to kiss Emily right away, but knew that he needed to be patient. Emily desperately wanted to cry, but couldn't because of her being undead. A feeling shared by many in the church.

Elder Gutknecht proceeded over the wedding, thanking everyone for joining today to witness the union of (Y/n) and Emily.

As time went on, the wedding was near it's completion and soon would come the "I dos".

Firstly, it was time for both (Y/n) and Emily to share their vows. So, holding their hands together, Emily's blue ring glowing like never before, (Y/n) started.

(Y/n): "My precious Emily... my life ended too soon, but I have never felt so alive than I do with you. I can vow to you that this marriage will be the greatest thing to ever happen to me. I will never have you go to sleep unhappy, never have you stay upset, and never have you feel sad without me by your side. The future is bright for us, and I can assure you, that Heaven is a beautiful place we will share together. Though, to me, it's just a place, for you Emily... are my Heaven."

The audience that spectated awed at the kindness that (Y/n) spoke. His mother clapping wildly and his father giving him a wink from the distance.

Emily squeezed (Y/n)'s hand, overwhelmed with excitement and joy that she was marrying such a gentleman and a person who she loved so much.

Emily was next.

Emily: "My heart no longer beats, but being here with you, holding onto your hands, I can feel it coming back to life. I vow to you, my dear husband that together, our love will be unyielding, unable to break or crumble. Your smile alone grants me happiness, and I hope that being with you will keep that smile going. No matter where we end up, being with you is all that I want, and all that I need. You are my everything (Y/n), and I never want you to forget that. What's best about being dead is that time no longer applies to us. Which means I vow that forever and ever, I will love you for all time."

Like (Y/n)'s vows, the audience claps and even whistles a bit at how romantic both vows were. Emily's parents clapped and stood up to clap. Their little girl had finally found her one true love.

Inside, (Y/n) was trying his best to not jump at Emily and embrace her in a passionate hug, though he wouldn't have to wait long.

Elder Gutknecht: "The vows have been spoken, now, is there anyone here, that objects that these two should not be wed... speak now or forever hold your peace."

Silence befell the entire church. Everyone present had no objections at all. This made Emily and (Y/n) sigh in relief.

Elder Gutknecht: "Then.... by the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and bride. (Y/n), you may kiss your bride."

Quickly acting, (Y/n) pressed his lips deeply against Emily's, who was anticipating this and wrapped her arms around his neck as they shared this moment forever. This kiss sealed their marriage, a monumental moment they've oh so longed for.

The entire church stood and clapped, cheering as the newly wed couple were now Mr. and Mrs.

After a bit, (Y/n) let go of the kiss to turn and face everyone that was in attendance, seeing his mother and father smile and clap their hands together, they too shared in a kiss just like he and Emily did. Emily waved over to her parents and they gave her thumbs up from afar.

Along the many members that cheered on Emily and (Y/n) on their successful wedding, was Jessica and Donna, who both clapped and giddied with excitement, hoping that they too will find suitable partners to one day marry.

Elder Gutknecht smiled, always enjoying a happy ending with two people happily in love with one another. He put his hands together and felt a familiar sensation chill through his bones. Something was afoot and he knew exactly what it was.

Suddenly, the church doors opened with a misty yet alluring bright blue light made it's presence known.

Everyone in the church stood and turned to witness this divine beauty. Elder Gutknecht smiled and nodded slowly.

Elder Gutknecht: "It is time my children."

Both (Y/n)'s and Emily's parents soon were starting to become surrounded by small glowing blue butterflies. The light that made it's way from the door, soon engulfed them softly in it's glow. The butterflies increased in numbers, soon having them all disappear within the armada of butterflies. Every single one made their way out the church doors, not once leaving the blue light.

They have been ascended into Heaven.

Joyed at what they just witness, (Y/n) soon saw himself being surrounded by butterflies. Looking over at his new wife, he saw the same thing happening with Emily.

They were on their way, to Heaven.

But what made it better, was that they were to go together.

Elder Gutknecht: "Enjoy your new afterlife young (Y/n) and dear Emily. I will never forget you both."

It was truly sad watching Elder Gutknecht stay behind, but as they waved goodbye, they knew they both would never forget him. For none of this would have been possible without his help.

As the butterflies overtook them both, before they were finally coated and transported into Heaven, together, (Y/n) and Emily shared one last kiss before soon being evaporated into butterflies.

Everyone in the church watched in amazement as another beautifully wed couple finally found peace and happiness together, and got access to Heaven as a result.

The butterflies that engulfed Emily and (Y/n) made their way along the blue glow, and out of the church, and into the sky. No longer were they apart of the Land of the Dead, but now, apart of Heaven. Their new home, that they will spend eternity in together.

(Play for a better feeling)

Opening their eyes, Emily and (Y/n) found each other in their embrace still. Yet their appearances were different. (Y/n) looked like he first did when he met Emily, his skin no longer blue but back to what it was when he was alive and healthy. Emily, her skin a fair shade of peach, her eyes and hair restored to it's former natural dark color. All her decay vanished and her skin was flawless.

(Y/n): "We made it."

Emily: "Together."

Holding on to one another, they realized that they were now in Heaven, and it's beauty was gorgeous to behold.

Clouds surrounded them both, and soon, they were approached by an Angel itself, wearing a stunning white suit along with a gold cross on his jacket, with breathtaking angelic wings that rested on his back.

Angel: "Welcome, both of you. I welcome you to Heaven, your families have already arrived and are waiting for you beyond these gates."

(Y/n): "We actually made it..."

Emily: "We did.... I love you so much."

(Y/n): "And I love you."

They both partook in another kiss, this time, (Y/n) finally getting to feel her soft human like lips for the first time. A feeling he will never get tired of.

Angel: "I shall be your guide, for I am apart of an Agency in Heaven. I will show you all it has to offer. Come, for your future here, has only just begun."

~The End~
