Chapter 10 Forgiveness and a proposal

Stepping outside the tailor shop, (Y/n) holding a large bag in his right hand, which contained the wedding dress he secretly purchased for Emily. Turning to his right, he didn't see Emily where he told her to wait.

(Y/n): "Emily?"

Calling out softly, (Y/n) looked down the street and the sidewalk, wondering where she went off to. A moment of concern clouded his mind, for he had a feeling perhaps she was discovered and only feared the worse as to what they did to her if she was indeed found out. Searching across the street, squinting his eyes to get a better view of the people that walked along the sidewalk opposite his current location, (Y/n) could not find any sign of Emily.

The snow was falling, and the streets and sidewalks became more and more coated in the white blanket. Walking proved more difficult, but it seemed as though the snow's increase in abundance had an advantage. Where Emily was originally, were her footsteps, at least (Y/n) hoped it was hers. So inspecting the footsteps that were left in the snow, (Y/n) followed them which lead him around a corner of the tailor shop. The small footprints were guiding him to the town park, but what surprised and worried (Y/n) a bit was that alongside what he believed to be Emily's footprints were another pair of footprints.

Finally as he drew closer, he heard young undead Emily's gentle voice, unable to comprehend what was being spoken, but the more the stepped closer, he heard another familiar voice.

Turning his head around the large hedge which lead to the center of the park, there he saw Emily resting on a bench, along with Catherine, (Y/n)'s ex.

Emily: "I can only imagine the fear that is going through you. I do hope that it goes by quickly, and that it doesn't hurt too much."

Catherine: "I'm so scared, I didn't want it to end this way at all...."

Emily: "I know... I know...."

(Y/n): "You...."

(Y/n) made his presence known, stepping out from around the hedge, stepping towards the bench where Emily and Catherine sat. Emily thankfully was still wearing her hood whilst talking with Catherine. Catherine knew the voice that called out, and saw that it was indeed (Y/n), an expression of profound anger on his face. Catherine expected this and completely understood the sour look on his face, and was ready to take whatever was thrown her way.

Emily: "(Y/n)! Sorry I wandered off, I was just helping this girl. You know she has tuberculosis like you? I was just letting her know it will be all okay."

(Y/n): "I know who she is Emily, she's... she is Catherine."

Emily: "I know her name is Catherine, she told me. You two know each other?"

(Y/n): "Emily... this is THE Catherine, the one who cheated on me and gave me this tuberculosis!"

A shocked look took over Emily's face, her undead eyes widening and her mouth opening up slightly in disbelief. She had been consoling and talking to the cause of young (Y/n)'s demise. Catherine kept her head down, ashamed to look up at (Y/n), letting out a few coughs as she held her head down in pity. Emily saw her somber state, seeing Catherine clearly disgusted with herself for bringing this plague not only into her own life but also (Y/n)'s. Letting out a small whimper and seeing a tear drop fall from her eyes, Catherine finally looked up, staring (Y/n) in his eyes. Their sickly nearly red eyes meeting, Catherine's filled with regret and sorrow where as (Y/n)'s was full of utter contempt.

Emily: "N-now wait... let's just take a moment to..."

(Y/n): "I was hoping I wouldn't run into you once more... you just love making me suffer don't you?"

Catherine: "(Y/n)... look, I... I...."

(Y/n): "You killed me!"

His voice rang out, leaving an echo that vibrated throughout the whole park. Emily jumped a little at the sudden exclaim made by (Y/n). Catherine let another tear slip out, trickling down her cheek, which Emily noticed.

Emily: "(Y/n)... look, she is sorry, can't you see it? Please... control yourself."

Catherine: "I... I'm so sorry (Y/n)...."

(Y/n): "You ruined my life... time and time again.."

Catherine: "I know I did so much to you... but I never wanted to do this.... I didn't know I had it! I swear! I... I must have gotten it from William...."

Emily: "It's okay Catherine... you didn't mean it..."

(Y/n): "My relationship.... my job... and now my life...."

Emily: "(Y/n) please! Don't be vindictive... she didn't mean any of this to happen."

Catherine: "Not only did I ruin my life (Y/n), I ruined yours and so many others... and now I'm paying the price."

Her weeping arrived in full force, for young Catherine used her sleeve to mask her tears and dry her face up. Emily was in a panic and stressful state, having to see a rivalry ignite right before her very eyes. She remembered vaguely how (Y/n) described Catherine to her, but she didn't think that this feeling towards her was this extreme. She felt sorry for both of them, having to deal with such unfortunate circumstances, but it was obvious how dreadful and sorry Catherine felt about all of this. Emily wrapped her arm around Catherine, letting her know it's okay to let it all out.

(Y/n) sighed heavily, for truly he still had a feeling of hatred towards Catherine, for all she had caused him. Though in his process, he remembered how the tailor shop owner, despite having all this run of luck in his life, didn't stop thinking of the positives in life. Oddly, the thought of realization popped into (Y/n)'s mind. He thought to himself that if the events of the past didn't occur, that he never would have met Emily. Seeing his life clearly now, in deep love with someone who was a far better suitor for him, despite only knowing her for days made him come to terms on accepting Catherine's plea of apology.

(Y/n): "Catherine..."

Looking back up, her tears flooding her eyes, Catherine lingers on his words, wondering how he will react next.

(Y/n): "I'm sorry too..."

Catherine: "F-for what? You did nothing wrong... it was all me...."

(Y/n): "Those are some blurred lines right there but... if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have met a special someone.... and sure, I'm not long for this world just like you, but someone else taught me to not let a fate sealed corrupt you. Besides, I'm sorry for raising my voice at you."

Emily smiled at (Y/n), for it must have surely been difficult overcoming and setting aside his reasonable anger towards Catherine.

(Y/n): "I may not have long, but I hope to finish some things with her soon."

Turning his head slightly to Emily, it was clear he was talking about her. Catherine was a little curious as to who this new found special someone was, but she knew at least not to pry.

Catherine: "I can't believe you're so forgiving, even after all I've done to you.... I cannot dare understand it but... thank you.... both of you...."

Emily: "Our time on this Earth is short, we must not part it with regrets or grudges."

(Y/n): "She's right. It's an unfortunate world but, a beautiful one too. I'm happy I get to see beauty before I leave it, and after."

Emily smiled up at (Y/n), knowing that he was talking about her. Catherine stood up, dusting off the snow that landed on her as she was resting on the bench with Emily.

Catherine: "Again... I'm so so sorry for all I've caused... if I could, I would go back and never let this happen again (Y/n)..."

(Y/n): "Me too."

And with that, young Catherine nodded, thanking Emily for keeping her company and providing her with some comfort until her fate, and (Y/n) for not letting her die without apologizing and him holding a vindictive grudge until death. Walking away from the two, Catherine disappeared within the snowy fog, never to be seen again.

Emily sat up from the bench, stepping over to (Y/n), resting her head on his shoulder, wrapping herself around his arm.

Emily: "I'm proud of you, that must not have been easy."

(Y/n): "Honestly, it wasn't. She is the reason I am dying, but you're the reason I feel so alive."

Emily: "Oh (Y/n)."

Planting a small kiss on his lips, they share a moment of passion with each other, before Emily reopens her eyes to see down in (Y/n)'s hand a large bag.

Emily: "What's in there? Your coat?"

(Y/n): "Haha, did you not see me wearing my new coat already?"

Emily: "Must have been distracted by your beautiful eyes."

(Y/n): "Flattery will get you everywhere Emily. But no, it's... actually a gift.... for you."

Emily: "For me? What could you have gotten for me?"

(Y/n): "Close your eyes, and I'll show you."

Emily: "My eyes? I love surprises!"

(Y/n): "Then I hope you'll like this one, now close them good!"

Emily: "Okay okay!"

(Y/n): "Keep them shut until I say open."

Emily: "Mhm!"

Setting the bag down, (Y/n) slipped inside and carefully pulled out the beautiful white wedding dress, sparkling from the snowy atmosphere. The dress was long, brand new and elegant, fitting for a beautiful maiden, such as young Emily.

Taking a deep breath, (Y/n) was ready to unveil it to Emily, excited to see her reaction.

(Y/n): "When I say go, open your eyes. Ready... set... go!"

Emily quickly reopened her eyes, so quickly that her eyes popped out of her head, and rolled onto her lap. (Y/n) jumped a little at this sight, for it's the first time it ever happened.

Emily: "Oops! I'm sorry, I shouldn't open them so abruptly, hehe. Could you help me?"

(Y/n): "S-sure."

Using one hand to pick up Emily's fallen eyeballs, while the other holds the wedding dress up, (Y/n) carefully inserted her eyeballs back into her sockets. It was quite a sight and made (Y/n) a little uneasy, but in a way, he found this little incident cute.

(Y/n): "There we go. All better?"

Emily blinked her eyes a few times, seeing if they were indeed back in place correctly, in which she nodded her head, giggling a bit at what just transpired.

Emily: "Mhm! I can always count on you to put me back together, like you did with my heart."

She then saw it, the wedding dress that was displayed in front of her. It was gorgeous, long and slim, just like her figure. It had been so long since she had seen a fresh new one. As (Y/n) held it up, the lighting that shined on it made it all the more beautiful. She reached forward and felt it's softness with both her hands, her ring on her skeletal hand shimmering it's blue glow. It felt exquisite, gentle, right.

(Y/n): "I got this... for you Emily."

Speechless, Emily had no idea how to react verbally and emotionally. A blank expression overtook her face, her eyes open wide and her mouth open in amazement. She wanted to cry, but couldn't because she was dead. Instead, she finally snapped back to reality and smiled, a beautiful smile.

Though before she could say anything in response, (Y/n) set the wedding dress back into the bag, and knelt down on one knee.

(Y/n): "Emily... I... ever since I met you, something about you just wanted me to stay with you. It must have been a click or a connection, but I cannot and will not allow myself to leave this world not your husband. So Miss Emily... will you marry me?"

Emily: "A-are you serious?"

(Y/n): "Very, when you rose from the dirt, a walking corpse, I ran and never wanted to look back. I told you that I don't regret hitting that tree, and so far you've been the best thing in my short life. I would have gotten you a ring instead but you're already wearing it."

Emily stared down at her wedding ring that belonged to (Y/n), who told her to keep it. The blue shine shimmering brighter than ever. A glow she never tired of witnessing.

Emily: "(Y/n).... you.... this is.... the best day of my life.... err afterlife. Spending it with you all day, going to multiple places and now this... I cannot ask for a better way to close the day. Yes, I shall and will happily be your bride. Your corpse bride."

(Y/n): "I love you Emily..."

Emily: "I love you more..."

A feeling of overwhelming joy invaded (Y/n)'s mind, heart and entire body. He felt so gleeful and full of life, so much so that it felt like he didn't have tuberculosis any longer. He felt so alive, and so did Emily, despite being dead. Together, the newly engaged couple embraced in a hug, celebrating their engagement in the snowy park. Feelings of true love filled the air, filled their hearts, filled their lives, and it was beautiful.

There in the park, not having any regard for what others would walk into, their feelings of intense passion, both romantic and amorous took over both Emily and (Y/n).

Emily: "Um.... (Y/n).... I was wondering, in both of my lives... I-I've never...."

(Y/n): "Don't even have to finish my love. A consummation of our engagement would fix that."

Emily: "Then come here."

Gripping her hoodie, (Y/n) lowered it down, revealing Emily's face, smiling at her beauty, and mesmerized by her elegance.

Locking their lips together, setting the wedding dress aside, they loved each other's company in so many senses of the word. The snow was falling softly and quietly as they spent the remainder of their date together, showing each other exactly how much they deeply care for one another. Their future was bright, and no matter his fate, (Y/n) wanted to spend both his living days and afterlife with no one else but Emily. As for Emily, her life already taken away seemed to find it's life source once more in (Y/n).

A marriage was to be, of a mortal and a corpse, their love immense for each other.
