"Good Work"

---------------

You made light strokes on the piece of parchment, though not a single illustration formed from your actions. You opted to smack your head for inspiration, but chose against going to such lengths considering it would do nothing more than worsen your current predicament.

Still grasping the pencil, your dominant hand was throbbing, small calluses had already made an appearance due to your continuous strain of drawing.

Art was a passion of yours, that much was certain, but the pressuring task of having to submit a freshly drawn composition every single day was a daunting task-- easier said than done.

With an agitated breath, your head descends onto your desk. "I hate Artist's Block..." You muttered to no one in general.

Suddenly, the door to the club-room slides open, and in came your boyfriend, Shinsuke. Knowing how he was with indisposition, especially when it came to you, you forced yourself to straighten up in hopes that he had yet to notice how tired you were.

But alas, he was your boyfriend for a reason.

"(y/n)..." The grey-haired volleyball captain started as you eye him anxiously. "You're sick." Came his conclusion after, and you huffed defiantly.

You shook your head in protest, "I promise you, I'm not. I'm just in need of a break, that's all." Adding a reassuring smile to your words as if that would soften him up.

"Then go home and rest." He uttered another automatic reply, holding out his hand. "C'mon, I'll walk you."

You frowned at Shinsuke before deciding to your last resort. "I'm fine, really. Please let me finish this, my club is important to me too." Your wide, doe (e/c) orbs stared up at him, jutting out your bottom lip as you tilted your head for maximum effect.

"(y/n)..."

"Please... Kitaaa." You dragged out his name, sending a faint trace of a blush onto your boyfriend's usually bland facial attributes.

Without another word, Shinsuke excused himself from the club-room, much to your surprise. At that, you grew confused-- maybe a little worried.

'Did he grow angry with you?'

Surely not, you knew how important volleyball was to him and he knew how important art was for you, it didn't make sense if he neglected the fact now. Besides, Shinsuke wasn't the type to let his emotions get to him. If anything, he would have flat-out told if he was mad.

Your gaze wandered over to the piece of paper below you, and ever-so reluctantly, you picked up your pencil once more.

"He'll appreciate it if I draw him." You nodded at the suggestion.

Your (s/c) hand, wielded the pencil naturally, having done this for all of your life. You went to the archives in your mind to familiarize and etch Kita Shinsuke onto your drawing.

Lapse

"(y/n)..." You felt a light nudge on your shoulder, prodding you awake. "I told you to go home..." Shinsuke sighed, staring at you as you picked your upper body from the desk you previously rested on.

Rubbing the drowsiness from your (e/c) eyes, you let out a yawn before your eyes settled on Shinsuke, who held a ghost of a smile on his lips at your cuteness.

You blushed, immediately tearing your gaze from his dark-brown irises.

"A-Are you mad Kita?" You stammered, hearing Shinsuke hum in confusion at your claim. "I-I mean, I know you're just looking out for me but I just wanted to finish this drawing for today." You reasoned, twiddling your thumbs.

Shinsuke chuckled silently, raising his hand to ruffle your (h/c) tufts of hair, and you instinctively purred in delight. "I'm not mad. Why would I be?" Shinsuke retorts, pulling his hand away.

"W-Well, you left without saying where you were going off to..." You trailed off, raising your head to give him a subtle glimpse.

"Is that not how surprises go?" He quickly answered, raising one of his thin eyebrows.

You tilted your head in wonder, "Surprise...?" You repeated as your boyfriend nods in confirmation before raising a plastic bag in front of your eyes.

"I jogged up to a convenience store nearby, I figured I could reward you with (favorite snack) for your hard work today." Shinsuke gave a small smile, taking out the items from the plastic bag.

Your heart almost melted, you really didn't deserve such a compassionate although blunt boyfriend like him, you always felt like you were out of your league in terms of having him.

You embraced your boyfriend tightly, falling to the ground almost had it not been for Shinsuke's supportive shins that had regained balance for the two of you. Shinsuke returned your hug, unbeknownst to you-- the male was smiling.

Gratefully, you took a bag of (favorite snack) from him as well as (favorite drink), almost crying out of happiness. "This is the best gift a pre-pubescent female could ask for!" You chirped, wreaking having through the snacks as Shinsuke watched you, feeling accomplished.

As you were distracted by the food he bought, Shinsuke mindlessly wandered over to the desk you sat on before. He was feeling a tad bit curious as to whatever you drew-- or rather, who.

"I'm keeping this." Shinsuke proclaims, deadpan and all. Without waiting for your answer, the gray-haired athlete jogs away with your drawing of him.

"What was tha-- HEY! YOU GET BACK HERE!" You cried out, chasing your boyfriend, more or less. "I'LL HAVE NOTHING TO SUBMIT! YOU DON'T WANT ME TO STAY LONGER THAN I ALREADY HAD, DO YOUUUU?!"
