Kenma Kozume

"Never Again"

Reincarnation/Soulmate AU

When you meet your soulmate, your past life flashes before your eyes.

"Nii-Chan..." You spoke softly, tugging at your older brother, Tanaka's sleeve as the bald-headed wing spiker refused any means to look at you. Because he knew you were giving him the irresistible puppy-eyes.

Currently, you were trying to persuade Tanaka to let you go with him to Tokyo, to one of his volleyball training camps. Although, much to your despair, the male objected to the question once you had proposed it.

Though you were a supposed outsider to the boy's volleyball team of Karasuno High, you grew attached to the club and its players, especially your fellow first-years. Introducing you to his team was fine for Tanaka, but he doubted he wanted you to know anyone beyond his team. He was really protective of you and, as all brothers with a goddess-complex should, treasures you like you were a being above humanity itself.

God knows what could happen to you when you meet Yamamoto. Nishinoya harassing you with his permission was a nuisance in and of itself.

"Nii-Chan, please." You whined, dragging out your pleas.

"(y/n)-Chan, I said no--"

"I'll take you (n/n)!!" Saeko announces as she enters the room.

Your eyes lit up in delight, "Really Nee-San?" She nods at your question, turning to a sulking Tanaka with a frown. "Oh c'mon Ryu! We'll both be there to look after (n/n), besides, the girl barely leaves the house, she's like a hermit or something." Your older sister scolds as you pout at her words.

"Hey, I'm still here ya' know!"

Lapse

It was absolutely fun driving with Saeko, along with Hinata and Kageyama, though the raven-haired setter merely slept majority of the trip to Tokyo. In the end, Tanaka had gone ahead with the rest of the team whilst you and Saeko were entrusted to take the duo with you to Tokyo. Not that you two mind having extra baggage, in all honesty, it was them who were disturbed at how clamorously your older sister was driving.

Eventually, you made it and the four of you bolted straight to the gymnasium.

"Oh good, they're still at it!" Saeko sighed out in relief as she held the double-doors open for the you three. "We totally made it, not bad at all, if I do say so myself."

"Nee-San-- Eh? (y/n)-Chan's here too!" You heard Nishinoya's voice, considering he practically screamed at your arrival whilst Tanaka just sighed out at the commotion the libero was creating.

You were, pretty much, overwhelmed at the sight of all the sweaty, well-built pre-pubescents occupying the entirety of the various courts. But what took the cake for you, was upon meeting a pair of golden eyes resembling that of a feline almost.

Then and there, your contact made time itself stop flowing, as memories of your past life came flooding back into your memory like a rabid faucet would an empty bucket.

The first fragment, was of a (h/c)-haired commoner, born into a family of forest-dwellers, away from civilization, though there were occasional visits to the Kingdom of Karasuno, seeing as your older sister, Saeko, worked to and fro to grant you and your older brother, Tanaka, a comfortable life at least.

On one curious expedition through the woods, you had stumbled across the Kingdom of Nekoma, and in a series of coincidental events, had gotten associated with the Crowned Prince himself, Kenma Kozume and of course his flirtatious guardian, Kuroo.

Right off the bat, you and Kenma had clicked and became inseparable to an extent wherein even Kuroo himself envied.

Soulmates were a foreign entity back in the days. Sorcery was often believed to be behind the sudden tug towards a person regardless if they were familiar with one another or not.

As much as the black-haired knight mean no harm behind in sharing the Princes' endeavors with you, the village grew rampant within the next few days after the beans were spilled about your existence.

Many of them believed you to have bewitched the Prince, in order to obtain the jewels and luxuries through wedding with their precious Highness. Their envy turned into hatred and soon it broke into an all-out uprising against you.

They threatened King Nekomata, offering to wreak havoc and madness throughout the entire Kingdom when he refused to have you repent for your forced allegations. Leaving the King with no other favorable solution but to allow your execution, yet Prince Kenma was to be left in the dark about this.

Though Kuroo, having felt guilty at that point, decided to go beyond the law and tell Kenma regardless of the inevitable consequences.

However, when they had reached your home to rescue you, the damage had already been done. Saeko and Tanaka almost landed emotion-driven assaults on Kenma had it not for Kuroo's words.

'Prince Kenma shall protect (y/n) at all costs, now, please tell us where she was taken to.'

'...The cliffs. Please save her!' Saeko begged as Tanaka silently sobbed at his loss.

With haste, the two males acted, riding their horses, neglecting the existence of harsh pathways to get to the execution site.

Unfortunately, they didn't make it in time.

All that met Kenma's stunned gaze, was the trace of your descending figure, as an arrow pierced through your heart.

Everything went black, and a loud splash came after your fall.

The next time you regained consciousness, you believed to be an opportunity given to you by the gods, so you can profess your final wishes to your beloved.

'(y/n)...' A voice, resounding from a distance, rings in your ear. '(y/n)! Don't leave me-- I'm sorry... Please.' Your vision was blurry, you could barely make out the person in front of you, your whole body felt unbearably numb but you could feel the presence of arms wrapped around the area of your back as well as your shoulders.

'No.. No no no no! Don't you close your eyes, don't you d... dare...' His voice cracked at the end of his sentence. Light sniffles came from him and you felt tears dropping onto the apples of your cheeks. Gradually, you notice your sense of feeling had returned.

Your hand raised up on its own, to caress the soft cheeks of who you had presumed was your soulmate, by now. 'K-Kozume...' Your voice was hoarse and evidently in a state of pain. Your lungs were burning and a heavy weight settled on top of your chest, still, you had persevered 'til your very last breath to rid yourself of your emotional burdens.

'I... I love you, Kozume. I love you so much.'

'(y/n)!! '

'Don't cry, Kozume... It isn't like.. you'

'(y/n)!!!'

Lapse

You didn't really acknowledge each other much at first. Truth be told, you actually didn't know how to approach the pudding-haired gamer, like you did in the past. Boy oh boy, was the feeling mutual, as Kenma, your soulmate, believed what happened to you in your previous lives with one another was his fault.

That night, you couldn't sleep. Tanaka was in a heavy state of depression upon discovering that you had found your soulmate so you doubt he'd want to talk to your right now and Saeko was out drinking with the coaches, so you took it upon yourself to sought after a peace of mind.

Here you were, basking in the ethereal topography of the dark-blue horizon, contrasts of white-- the stars adorned its canvas, making it ever-so mesmerizing to stare at that you failed to notice the set of footsteps coming your way.

"Hey..." A monotonous voice spoke up, catching both your gaze and attention. You were surprised to unravel that it was Kenma.

Involuntarily, you blushed as the male mustered enough courage to sit beside you. All that followed, was insufferable silence.

And so you spoke.

"I see you're as awkward as ever, Your Highness." Kenma stiffened up at your words, causing you to giggle lightly. "Look... It seems as though we got off on the wrong fo--" You were flabbergasted to feel his arms wrapping tightly around you.

"I-I'm sorry..."

Instantaneously, you melted into the male's embrace, almost as if your body had been yearning for his touch. So this was the sorcery you were accused of. "Kenma..." You mumbled into his chest, feeling the rapid pace of his heartbeats. "Weird, huh? It feels like I've known you for years..."

"More than years, decades-- centuries even." Kenma corrects, breathing in the scent of your hair. The aroma of pine and lavender, although it's the first he's ever known about such fusion of scents, his sense of smell claims to have missed it.

"I'm--" Noticing that he was going to apologize again, you placed a finger to his lips. "Hey... I rather we not dwell in the past, whatever happened, had already gone past us. I'm here now right?" His grip around your waist tightened, and Kenma bit his lips, still uncertain if he was allowed to sweep his trespasses under the carpet so easily.

With a sigh, Kenma opted to listen to you despite wanting to grace an innumerable amount of sorry's upon you and in its stead, he merely said.

"Never again."
