Chapter 18 - Social, Unsocial

I wanted to upload a little earlier but my internet cut out. Nothing major though. The story is moving along. It maybe slow at the moment but it is moving! I hope you guys are interested in it enough to continue reading it!

-Picture of Theo (I just realized how much Charlie Matthews looks like Tyler Hoechlin in this picture)

Keegan's POV

The place we ended up going to was the beach, near the area Theo took me before. This one was a little off to the side, covered in shade. We all took seats on the rocks in the sand. I watched as they talked and messed around. I didn't join in or say much. I didn't really feel comfortable enough around them to let my guard down. Not to the point where I am with Theo anyway.

I played with my now empty can as Theo, Kevin and his friends chatted. Normally Theo doesn't hang around people like us at school so it was probably a little odd for him, though he seemed to be enjoying himself. They talked about various topics ranging from pets to sports.

"I have a parrot back home, and all she does is mock me." Kevin said, making everyone chuckle. "She calls me a whiny b***h every time I come through the door." He continued, with our laughter growing.

"Well it seems she knows all too well." The guy shot.

"Hey! when am I ever whiny?" Kevin asked, getting worked up.

"Every morning when you're in bed you act like some self entitled princess." The guy continued to tease, rolling his eyes. Oh, so I guess they must be roommates then?

"Ah whatever." Kevin denied, turning his head away from the guy.

"I have a dog. She's large, and all she does is hog the couch. Anytime I sit near her she gives me a sad look, like she wants me to leave." Theo returned to the original topic. She sounds really fun to be around. I chuckled just thinking about it. Hopefully I get to meet her someday.

"I never really liked pets to be honest." The guy admitted. "All they do is eat, poop, and sleep."

"Don't we all." The girl replied nonchalantly, making us chuckle.

"I never got your names by the way." Theo said, looking to the two. I followed suit, curious myself.

"I'm Bethany." The girl introduced, pointing to herself.

"Name's Owen." The guy followed.

"Well I suppose I should introduce myself then. I'm Theo." He said.

"Pfft, everyone knows who you are." Bethany rolled her eyes.

"I suppose that's true." Theo responded, sounding a little cocky.

"Who's the other guy." Bethany asked, nudging her head my way.

"Keegan." I answer, wearing a weak smile.

"Sounds-" Before Bethany finished I interrupted her. "Dorky? I know" I sighed.

"I was going to say hot, but whatever floats your boat." She shrugged. I felt myself go red from head to toe. Was she serious, or could she just be pulling my leg.

"How's the swimming season going by the way?" Owen asked.

"My team is doing fine. Of course we have room for improvement though, especially myself." Theo answered. "I've mostly been focusing on football though. That's definitely one of my stronger points."

Suddenly we heard an unfamiliar voice call out of nowhere. "That's where you guys were. C'mon we have to go. Marley will be leaving any minute!"

"Shoot, I forgot we were supposed to be going somewhere." Bethany muttered.

"Alright, we'll be right up." Shouted Owen.

"Sorry guys, we have to get going. One of the instructors is heading into town and agreed to take us with her, since we needed some supplies." Kevin explained.

"Later." Theo waved.

"Bye." I uttered in an odd tone. They all waved and returned to the park to head into town. I still haven't seen it myself. Maybe the town tour would've been a good idea after all. I still don't regret my decision though.

"What's up? You've been awfully quiet." Theo asked, now with his full gaze on me.

"Its nothing. I guess I'm just not comfortable enough to speak my mind around them." I explain. A smile spread across his and he let out a breath. I wonder why he responded that way. I pouted thinking about it.

Theo and I hung around the beach a little longer, soaking up the much needed silence. Theo shut his eyes and leaned back against a rock with me following suit. The sound of the distant ocean waves and the birds really set the atmosphere. I unwound my stiff little body.

Just as I was about doze off Theo spoke. "Wanna head back?" He asked, standing from his spot.

"Sure." I replied, simply. He extended a hand and helped me up, which I found very charming. A smile grew at my lips. I walked beside him as we headed for the cabin. I had a lot on my mind and wanted to talk about it, but I didn't want to annoy Theo, so I kept myself in check.

"I wish I got to see the town." I mutter. Theo looked down, a little curious.

"I took a walk there yesterday, Its really nice." He informed.

"Wait, we aren't allowed to do that are we?" I inquired, staring at Theo.

"Don't think so." He shrugged.

"We got a rebel in here." I tease, making Theo chortle with a large grin.

We continued walking for awhile until Theo spoke. "Race you back!" He announced. I looked at him like he was crazy. "I'm going to win." He boasted smugly.

"Like heck you will." I replied, raising my voice. Before he could react I darted off, getting a head start. I looked back at him with a devious grin. It took him sometime to react but soon enough he was hot on my tail. He was catching up at a rapid pace but the cabin was in view so I did my best to stay ahead. I went into overdrive as I sprinted for the door, but just as I was about reach the cabin I felt a pair of arms wrap around me. Theo had caught up with me, almost tackling me to the ground. I was locked in his grasp. Somehow I felt like I was melting. He had completely caged me with his body and I felt myself turning into Jello right on the spot. I was breathing heavily due to the long run, but Theo's grasp made my breaths that much heavier. He seemed totally fine. I expected nothing less from Mr Sports though, as Bethany referred to him. We sat embraced like that longer than normal. It made me question his intentions, but I was totally fine with this. Being this close to him always feels amazing. Almost as if we merge into one, I dunno, that's just how I see it at least.

We eventually made it back to the cabin, with both of us settling for a tie. The first thing I did was open a book. I lost myself in the text for hours. I think Theo was on his phone during that time. That guy sure loved it, but I guess I can't say anything since I'm the same with books, if not worse. I started getting a bit sleepy and decided a nap would be right up my ally, so I shut my book and laid my head against my cover, since my pillow was left on Theo's bed.

As I began drifting off to sleep I heard Theo's voice. "You taking a nap?" He asked. I nodded, confirming that I was indeed trying to sleep.

"Oh... do you wanna sleep over here?" He asked, patting his bed like he often does. My stomach began feeling light and tingly. Is he serious?

"I-Is that really okay?" I questioned nervously.

"Sure. I don't mind." He said, shrugging and returning his eyes to his phone. I made my way over to his bed and placed myself next to him. I pulled my pillow up to me and placed my head on it. I curled up into a ball and held onto Theo's cover. My gosh, this was far more relaxing than my bed. Theo's unique smell engulfing my nose, the gentle breeze blowing in from the parted windows, the soft sounds of Theo's finger taping against his phone. Everything put me in a state of tranquility. I felt comfortable, content, and most of all, safe. I fell asleep a lot faster this time around.
