Chapter 4- Time to Face The Music

Marilyn spent the rest of the evening telling every detail of her life so far to Eric whilst being sat on his lap. Anyone who entered the club couldn't take their eyes off them, Marilyn guessed that Eric never had anyone sit on the throne with him before. But she loved it being up there on the stage Eric's muscular arms wrapped around her almost like he was staking claim on her. Before she knew it the sun was rising and she would have to go home to the awkward situation that would be Sookie, Bill and Sam, Eric had told her at some point last night that Bill had being given his punishment which was to create a new vampire and that he probably won't be around Sookie as much because training a new vampire was hell. That comforted Marilyn in a way, at least her sister would get some space away from Bill and his intoxicating love. Eric offered to give her a ride home before the sun rose, but Marilyn turned him down, she liked walking and needed time to think about what she would tell Sookie, she had been up to all last night. Marilyn concluded quite early on that she couldn't tell Sookie she had been sat on Eric's lap all night Sookie would be furious and honestly Marilyn didn't want to hear her sister lecture her on who she should and shouldn't hang out with. Marilyn said her goodbyes to both Eric and Pam who promised that they would have a girl's night soon and slowly made her way home.

Marilyn enjoyed the walk home it gave her time to think about the recent events like Grans death it was then she realised she hadn't properly mourned for her grandmother she had been so wrapped up in Sookie's love life and all of the murders that there hadn't been time to cry or just deal with the fact that she would not be able to talk to Gran ever again. Gran was one of the few people in Marilyn's childhood who didn't think she was crazy. Whenever Marilyn woke up to the screams of the dead Gran would run in and scare them away. She always told Marilyn that no monsters would ever harm her along as she was here. And now that Gran was gone Marilyn worried that her monsters would finally get her and that no one else would help her. It was clear that her siblings were too caught up in their own lives to even spend quality time with her, but it had always been that way. As the youngest Stackhouse Marilyn always felt left out it's nice to see that still hasn't changed.

The old family home came into view as Marilyn left the town cemetery behind, it didn't look as if anyone was awake which could work in Marilyn's favour because she still hadn't thought of an excuse to tell her sister yet. She walked up the old porch steps that desperately needed to be repainted and opened the door which instantly gave away her arrive with the creaking of the hinges. Marilyn stood in the doorway waiting for her sister to come charging down the stairs shouting and screaming about where she's been and how worried she was, but no one came down the stairs, no one was shouting and screaming about how worried they'd been. Sadness filled Marilyn's features about the lack of concern shown by her sister. She made her way into the place that was once her childhood home and climbed the stairs ready to snuggle under her bed covers. The steps creaked liked they had for the past ten years, Gran always said she was going to fix it Marilyn guessed she never got the chance. Just as she reached her old bedroom the place, she had spent her teen years until she decided to leave this all behind and turned towards Sookie's room. Marilyn walked to the pristine white door and knocked. No reply, she knocked again for good measure before opening to the door to Sookie's spotless bedroom. The bed was made as if it hadn't been slept in and there was no sign of Sookie anywhere. Where was her sister? She could have sworn that when she left last night Sookie was here in fact Marilyn knew Sookie was here when she left. So, where did she go?

Marilyn searched the rest of the house just to be certain that Sookie definitely wasn't here and then decided that she would check 'Merlottes'. She exited the house only to come face to face with her own sister.

"Marilyn Stackhouse Where have you been?!" She shouted so loudly Marilyn thought her ear drums were about to burst. Marilyn just stood there silent not sure how to respond, she could tell the truth. But she could see how that was going to, so she did what she did best and lied.

"Out." Was her response, not a great lie but it would buy Marilyn enough time to come up with a good alibi for where she was last night.

"Out?! You were gone all night, I thought you had been murdered. I waited up all night for you to come home and you never did. So, I ran straight over to Tara's to see if you had gone over to her house, and she said she hadn't seen you all night." Sookie stopped for breath, but Marilyn knew the lecture was far from over. "So, I'm gonna need more than 'out'." Sookie used air quotes to punctuate her point and then just stood there with her arms across her chest waiting for Marilyn's answer. And to be honest she didn't have one, she couldn't tell Sookie about Eric but who else could she say she was with. Maybe Lafayette, he might cover for her she knew Sam couldn't. Because he was with Sookie when she left the house last night and Tara wasn't an option because Sookie had already gone to see her. So that left one person who she hoped would cover for her.

"I spent the evening with Lafayette. I went over to his house and fell asleep there. That's where I was." Marilyn said with as much confidence as possible hoping it was believable enough for her sister.

"So, if was to call Lafyette and ask him if you went over to his house last night, he would confirm what you just told." Sookie said whilst making her way over to the home phone that was placed on the kitchen counter.

"Yes, he would because I'm not lying." She was lying through her teeth and prayed that Lafayette would agree to Marilyn's story. Thank God her sister couldn't read her mind or anyone's through the phone. Otherwise, she would have been screwed by now.

Sookie dialled Lafayette's number into the telephone and waited for him to pick, the seconds that passed between each ring felt like a lifetime. Then she heard Lafyette's complains through the phone, her sister quickly explained why she was calling so early and asked if Marilyn was with him last night. There was a pause in the conversation, Marilyn could guess why. Lafayette was obviously considering his answer and whilst he stayed silent for a little too long, Marilyn's mind was racing with every possible excuse she could use on her sister. The sound of the phone being put back, snapped Marilyn out of her thoughts and her eyes landed straight to her sister's face. Sookie has never been good at hiding her emotions and so Marilyn could read her features easily and by the looks of it Lafayette covered for her. "Thank You" she murmured quietly to herself as if he could hear it.

"Don't stay out late again without telling where you're going first. We have a serial killer on the loose and I don't want to lose you. Okay?" Sookie said whilst placing her arms around Marilyn and held her for the first time since Gran had died. It was nice to be hugged and cared for, Marilyn had almost forgotten what it felt like.

"I promise. No more leaving without saying where I'm going." She said into her sister's shoulder. Marilyn knew she was lying again, and she wondered how many more lies she was going to tell her sister because Marilyn planned on seeing Eric again. She planned on seeing him as much as possible because last night was the first night that she had felt alive. Eric said he was going to help her control her powers, he was going to teach her control and Marilyn couldn't wait. But her sister could never know, that wasn't Eric's rule that was hers.

Sookie pulled out of their embrace and Marilyn led her over to the couch. Marilyn positioned herself so she was facing Sookie.

"Now, you're going to tell me all about your little make out session with Sam." She said all seriousness.

"It was nothing. Sam and I had spent the day together investigating the murders and I didn't think Bill was coming back. I still don't think he is." Sookie's heart break was written all over her face and it made Marilyn feel guilty. She did this and she knew where Bill was but couldn't tell her sister that because then she would have to say where she got the information from which would unravel the whole web of lies Marilyn had already trapped herself in.

"I'm sure he'll come back Sook. I saw the way he looked at you, he killed a vampire for you- "

"For YOU. Not me." She added

"Let's be honest if he wasn't dating you, he wouldn't have even thought about killing that vampire. Yes, he did it to save me, but he also did it because he knows how much I mean to you. And he can't stand the idea of you in anymore pain." Marilyn explained hoping Sookie understood how much she meant to Bill. Because even though Marilyn wasn't his biggest fan, he made her sister happy and that was enough for now.

"How do you know that?" Sookie questioned doubt still riddling her features.

"How do you think?" Marilyn replied knowing that her sister would get what she was hinting at.

"You read his mind?"

"Yeah" Marilyn said as if it wasn't some sort of invasion of privacy because it was. Sookie just sighed and then smiled the brightest smile I had ever seen from her.

"So, he'll come back?"

Marilyn took her sisters hands in hers and stared loving into her sisters ocean blue eyes and said with the most reassuring face ever "Of course he'll come back Sookie. He loves you and wouldn't just get up and leave. Trust me." Sookie pulled Marilyn into another hug, and she could feel tears soaking her top, but Marilyn didn't care. She loved her sister and was going to comfort her everyday if she had to until Bill could get back. It was at that moment Marilyn wondered how Bill was getting on with his new progeny.

                                    Somewhere in woods

"Jessica please listen to me; I'm trying to explain what being a vampire means and I can't do that if you keep walking off. Now sit." Bill begged the red-haired girl. She did what she was told and sat on a fallen tree branch. "Thank you." Relief filled Bill's features until his new progeny started talking again.

"So, can I eat someone?" Jessica asked sincerely

"No, we do not eat people. We drink synthetic blood called tru blood." Bill handed the young vampire a bottle labelled 'tru blood', the contents made the glass bottle look blood red. Jessica took one sip of the liquid and spat it out onto the forest ground.

"That tastes like dirt! Why would I drink that?" She questioned disgust filling her features.

"Because it is wrong to kill people Jessica. And you'll get use to the taste." Bill said hoping to reassure her. But Jessica was already rambling on about a completely different subject.

"Can I curse now?" Jessica asked.

"Yes, you can curse but I do not advise it."

"And who are you, my daddy?" Sarcasm filling Jessica's tone of voice.

"Please Jessica will you just listen to me." Bill was begging again hoping that she would listen to him. But Jessica was already up and running around screaming every curse word she knew, and all Bill could think was that this was going to a long night. And then it hit him, he knew exactly what to do with Jessica or should he say who to give Jessica to. The argument was already forming in his head, he would give Jessica to Eric. And then Bill could get back Sookie, who he missed dearly. He wished he could tell Sookie what was happening and why he left. He hoped she wasn't to angry at him for leaving suddenly.

This was his chance to give Jessica to someone more equipped to handle her and get back to Sookie.

"Jessica!" Bill shouted as loudly as he could.

"What?" She said spinning around on her heel to face him.

"We need to go and see someone. Let's go. Now!" He said whilst walking in front of her already knowing which way it was to Fangtasia.

"Who?" She questioned with her arms crossed over her chest.

"You'll find out soon enough. Now follow me."

"Well, that's not very clear but anyone's better than you. Lead the way"

Whilst walking to Fangtasia Bill hoped Eric wouldn't refuse him. In fact he was going to make sure he wouldn't.
