Chapter Twenty Seven: Harley Quinn's POV

Harley Quinn’s POV

I watched Puddin’ and Jester run down the hallway to high security before I turned to the rest of the gang. I formed a bubble with my gum, letting it pop loudly.

“Alrighty folks! You know the drill! Mr. J needs time to get our little Jester ready for the big show so it’s time to stall Batman!” I ordered, I was so excited for the big day.

I turned abruptly on the heel of my boot and started skipping away promptly.

“Hey big green question mark!” I yelled at the Riddler, who surprisingly looked dumbfounded.

“Jeeze! Did you forget the plan already? You and Ivy are coming with me!” I elaborated.

They both started following me as we ran down the corridor that led to the East Wing. The hallways were mostly empty, no more orderlies in big white coats to try and stab me with needles…Jeeze I hated those creeps.

All thanks to Mr. J’s plan, we had Arkham all to ourselves. It took a long time to replace all the guards with members of the Joker gang but it was worth the wait; a murder here, a murder there and before I knew it Arkham was ours.

Puddin’s plan was brilliant. I recalled the countless hours we spent in the cafeteria of the asylum where he would tell me all about how he would finally bring down the Batman; I would just stare in his dreamy green eyes and think about how lucky I was to have a guy like him.

The plan didn’t always involve Jester, heck how could it? We didn’t know Robby had a girlfriend until we had already sprung ourselves from Arkham. But once the plan was all put together, it really showed my Puddin’s brilliance, ya know?

As Riddler, Ivy and I walked past the locked cell doors, some with still holding inmates, I recalled the night we escaped from Arkham eight months ago.

*Flashback*

I laid on the bed in my cell; it was hard and lumpy but it was still comfy to me. The white sheets were crisp and were surprisingly clean for a nut house, they smelled like lavender. I reminded myself to say thank you to which ever inmate was on laundry duty.

The hall lights had been shut out hours ago, making my cell completely dark. I had been trying to sleep for hours but I just couldn’t; I had the feeling something exciting was going to happen. I rolled over on my side and tried to let dreams carry me away.

After a few short seconds, I realized that it was useless. I slid my hand under my pillow and pulled out the picture of my Puddin’.

“Oh Mr. J., If only you were here” I whispered to it.

It was an old Polaroid picture, easy to smuggle in and hide from orderlies. I had taken the picture in our special hideout in between crimes. Puddin’ was just so dreamy while he was sleeping, I had to take a picture. Of course he nearly strangled me after, but it was worth it because it reminded me of him when I was alone in my cell.

I kissed the picture, put it beside me on the pillow and closed my eyes again. Then I got a real weird feelin, like some creep was in my room. I balled my hands in fists under the sheets and opened my eyes.

Everything felt the same, except for the fact that there was the sound of breathing and I felt the hot breath blow on my face as a pair of bright green eyes became visible, just inches away from my face.

“Hello Sweetie Pie” my one and only’s voice whispered.

I jumped out of my bed and nearly knocked him over. It was so dark, I couldn’t tell what was what. I felt for his face and gave him a big smooch.

His fingers interlocked with mine. I finally pulled my mouth off of his to let him explain.

“C’mon baby, it’s time to get outta here!” He said.

From there, Joker had it all planned out. I followed him down every hallway, past every guard and onto the boat that would take us off the rock.

Once we got back to one of our old hideouts, I flicked on the TV and found the news channel. It was my favorite part of a successful Arkham escape.

“Renowned Gotham Criminals, Harley Quinn and the Joker have reportedly escaped Arkham Asylum. No news on either of their whereabouts has been reported but the Batman is reportedly on the case. Until the two are apprehended, Gotham City News suggests all citizens steer clear of anyone dressed like a clown for the time being” the news reporter said.

I smiled, it was so nice to feel important.

*End of Flashback*

“This door” I said to Ivy and Riddler who were still silent.

I kicked it open and there it was. The machine that would make everyone in Gotham see the world like I did.

“After you” I said as I held the door open for my dear friend Red and Eddie Nigma.

“Nice work, Harls” Ivy said as she flashed a smile.

Riddler approached the machine and smiled.

“It’s perfect”

“Okay great, now put the codes in to arm it. Then I need you to bring it to Mr. J in Maximum Security…and don’t get caught by Batman. Do you think you can do that?” I asked as I popped another bubble in my gum.

“Where are you going? You’re not seriously leaving me alone with him! You’re lucky I put aside my distaste for men to work with them but now you’re leaving me…I can’t say I won’t kill him while you’re gone” Ivy said, she could be so irritable when it came to boys.

“Listen Red, Mr. J gave me a special assignment! I gotta get to the security room and make sure Batsy can’t override the system to foil the party!” I exclaimed.

“Alright, Alright…but you’re lucky I like you enough to do this” she replied and I embraced her with a hug.

I could always count on Poison Ivy. I looked at Riddler, he just sat in front of the machine’s computer typing furiously on the computer and muttering to himself…what a whackadoodle.

I ran out the door and down the hallways to the security room. As I was running, I smiled, thinking about all the good things that were happening in my life. Me and Mr. J couldn’t be better, Batsy and the Bat Brat were about to meet their doom, I had great friends like Ivy and Selina and now I even had Jester.

I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive at first about having her around and what not. I mean she practically looked just like me and what if she fell for Mr. J just like I did? What if she tried to take him from me? But after I got to know her, everything changed.

It was kinda nice to have someone to relate to. She was like a younger sister or the daughter I didn’t have; not to mention she was so cool with all her kick butt moves and the way she smacked Batman around.

After my lungs were screaming for air, I reached the security room.

With a stolen guard’s key, I was granted access inside. Once inside, I disabled all communications on the island; making it impossible for B-man to call for back-up from the coppahs.  Then I put the emergency system on, basically shutting the entire island down and making it impossible for anyone to get on or off the island.

The show was ready to begin.
