An Act of Kindness

Suraj was a 10 year old naughty little boy. He liked doing new things every day. One day his mother called him and assigned a task, "Suraj can you come to me for a while"? Suraj went in search of his mother and finally came out of his house and found her in their garden. He said, "Oh Mom, you are here! I went searching for you everywhere. What are you doing here?" Mother said, "I'm planting a Rose sapling here. I want you to take care of this plant from now on. You should water it every day." Suraj was very excited with the new job he has been assigned to. He said, "Definitely Mom, I shall take care of it like my little sister."

Suraj used to get up 10 minutes early every day and went to his little plant to water. He used to talk to the plant whatever he felt like in the morning and evening and shared a very cozy relationship with it. This went on for about 6 weeks. Suraj's mother was closely observing his association with the plant.

One day, Suraj was very tired in school as there were continuous classes from morning and sports competition in the hot sunny afternoon. He also had lot of homework that day as well as an essay writing activity on their favorite topic. Students were supposed to read their essay to everyone aloud in the class the subsequent day. Suraj was totally exhausted that day and had no interest in talking to anybody. Mother noticed that he didn't even go to his rose plant to talk. Suraj somehow finished all his homework but by the time he came to essay writing, he had little interest in that activity. He wrote something for the sake of completing the activity but knew very well that he had not given his best shot.

The tiredness continued even next morning and Suraj was not in good spirit. He just got up and went to take bath. When he came back, his mother asked him if he went to meet his little rose plant and watered it. Suraj said he doesn't have time for all that and shut his room door in anger. That day didn't go well in school either. When he read out his essay, teacher was not satisfied with his effort on the activity and said it was disappointing. Suraj tried to hold his emotion and not cry in front of the class.

He came back home and as he was walking to the door, his eyes fell on the little rose plant he watered every day. He was dumbstruck in astonishment to see his little plant budding. Suddenly, all his exhaustion and disappointment transformed to happiness and satisfaction. He ran to his mother to show the miracle he created. His mother was very proud of him and said "you observed it now Suraj. I saw it in the morning and that's why asked you to have a look". Suraj apologized for his rude behavior and immediately went to his room to give his best shot on the essay. He wrote in his essay how every act of our kindness on any living being is going to pay back tenfold of happiness and makes you proud, may not be immediately, but definitely in some time.

The teacher was so impressed by his essay and told him that this was the kind of work she was expecting from him. Every one gave a huge round of applause for his work and Suraj went home happily with a sense of accomplishment that day.
